Pharrell to design jewellery for Louis Vuitton
Rapper and producer Pharrell Williams is teaming up with fashion label Louis Vuitton to design a special line of jewellery. The Neptunes star was selected by designer Marc Jacobs to team with jewellery designer Camille Miceli for the collection. Miceli recently styled Mariah Carey for her music video Say Somethin', which also featured Pharrell and Snoop Dogg. The video was shot over four days in Los Angeles and Paris, France. Miceli explains the range, "Is going to be jewels with such scale, so large - and of course very, very unique." The Miceli/Pharrell collaboration will debut in early 2007.

In this documentary, hip-hop industry legend Russell Simmons fights to raise awareness and inspire change in the face of the Rockefeller Drug Laws, which can mean 15 years to life in prison for nonviolent, first-time drug offenders. This film has several points in its favor: First, it's got star power in the form of appearances by Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, P. Diddy and--for New Yorkers, anyway--our own Governor Pataki. Second, 48 states have adopted laws similar to the Rockefeller Laws, so there's the potential for mass appeal. Add to that the certainty that opinions on the issues will be split nearly down the middle, and this could be a film everyone's talking about in months to come. And if it's not, it should be.

Although publishers can take in hundreds of thousands of dollars licensing "Revolution" by the Beatles or a Sinatra classic to a corporation, most of its income comes in more modest sums. A publisher pockets 9.1 cents a track for each CD. Mariah Carey blaring out a few bars on a teenager's ringing cellphone might earn a publisher 8 cents.

So is that iPod list really a collection?
To collect or not to collect?
The debate over amassing a cabinet full of CDs heated up again when Apple rolled out its new iPod Hi-Fi speaker system, which can connect to a TV and other audio sources.
With the new docking device, Apple CEO Steve Jobs assured early adopters, your "music is not on CDs in your cabinet. It's on your iPod."
The idea of not having a tangible music collection -- be it CD, cassette or vinyl album -- has rattled some ardent collectors. They argue that without something to touch and discuss, you forfeit something fundamental.
"We're a culture of pack rats, and very much into owning in physical ways," said Sean Wargo of the Consumer Electronics Association in Arlington, Va. "We prefer to interact with our machines the way we interact with each other -- by sight and touch. It makes us feel more secure."
But the convenience of downloading music has changed all that, Wargo adds. For many consumers, speed and portability now trumps that sense of well-being that comes from holding a prized CD or album.
Lucy Chen and Jon Tin, both 16, agree. Both would be lost without their MP3 players. "I down all my songs," says Jon. "Online just makes it easier, and I don't think I'm losing any interaction with friends."
Adds Teresa Wu, 17, of Fremont, Calif.: "I stopped collecting CDs the old way back in seventh grade. It's nice to have your little plastic case and stuff on the artist, but it's so much more convenient to keep music digitally."
How you squirrel away that new album by Mariah Carey or Death Cab for Cutie -- on bedroom shelf or hard drive -- says a lot about your personality and could affect your emotional well-being, say psychologists. The collector who can reach out and touch his collection may be happier in the long run.
"All that computer collecting takes its toll -- you're forfeiting face-to-face interaction with people who share your passion," says I. David Marcus, a San Jose, Calif., psychologist who specializes in online behavior.
You also forfeit that warm-and-fuzzy rush of nostalgia.
Indeed, those who collect CDs and vinyl LPs are less into convenience than sound quality. CDs and LPs when ripped and compressed (by 50 to 60 percent) for audio files lose important data and, consequently, fidelity. So, if you're a purist with a large classical music collection, audiophiles say you'll be disappointed by MP3-quality music.
Son Chau, 17, of San Jose is torn between the old and new. He has 150 CDs (artists such as Dilated Peoples and De La Soul) on his 20GB iPod, and another 120 discs stored on a bedroom shelf. He even owns vinyl LPs with an older brother.
"I'm more old-fashioned," Son says. "It's convenient to access your music with iPod, but it's fun to have something you can touch and pass back and forth. With iTunes, all you have are files. It's not as meaningful."
And the very definition of "permanency" has changed.
"As a culture, we romanticize objects, give them meaning and value," observes Sylvain Boies, a psychologist who treats online addictions. "These new collectors just do it differently: There's no fear of `What happens if I lose it?' If you lose it, you download another."
But instead of sitting alone and staring at a display screen, we could be sharing our collections with friends.
"Something has been lost," Marcus says. "You don't invite people to your house and show them your online playlist."
Lucy Chen definitely isn't nostalgic for CD racks and carousels.
"I've always been exposed to the Internet and downloads," she says. "Our generation is just growing up this way. We don't feel like we're missing out on anything because we have nothing to compare it with."

Davis attorney celebrates win over PepsiCo
PepsiCo Inc. will no longer use lead-based ink on soft drink bottles imported from Mexico, as part of a $9.75 million settlement agreement announced Friday.
The leaded labels violated Proposition 65 by not warning consumers they contain the toxic substance.
Though he played a more behind-the-scenes role than he did as an assistant U.S. attorney, the case marked another noteworthy win for Davis resident Michael Hirst against big business.
His firm took evidence of lead in soda and both lead and cadmium in labels to the California Attorney General’s office and Los Angeles city attorney.
Under the settlement filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court — the largest since voters passed Proposition 65 in 1986 — PepsiCo will pay a $1 million civil penalty. 
The New York-based soft drink giant must phase out 95 percent of lead-painted bottles in Mexico within seven years — or pay another $4.25 million fine — and all such bottles in 10 years. Outside auditors will ensure compliance.
For Hirst, the case raises “serious questions of environmental justice.”
“The largest consumer segments for Mexican Pepsi are the Latino communities in Mexico and, in the United States, those communities close to the Mexican border,” he said. “Since we know that lead exposure is cumulative and disproportionately affects minority and low-income communities, the presence of lead in Mexican Pepsi is especially troubling.”
Attorney General Bill Lockyer and Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo unveiled the settlement. A study backed by their offices confirmed that PepsiCo labels from Mexico can contain up to 45 percent lead and that it can rub off and be ingested.
Lead can cause birth defects, learning disabilities and cancer. Cadmium has been tied to cancer, kidney damage, emphysema and bone disease.
PepsiCo, meanwhile, seemed to garner more media attention Friday by announcing it had inked a new promotional deal with pop singer Mariah Carey.

Mixtapes and Hip Hop culture

By the time a rapper's new music hits stores and airwaves, it's likely he has already brought heat to the streets with a mixtape.
Mixtapes long have been part of hip-hop's culture, but the DJ-produced compilations that once existed underground are percolating much closer to the surface these days. The often unlicensed and frequently bootlegged collections of exclusive advance tracks, hot street jams, diss songs and freestyles - available for sale via the Internet, small retail shops and street vendors, or as free downloads and file swaps - aren't just for hardcore fans anymore. They've become promotional tools for artists and record labels trying to build a buzz.
Shanti Das, Universal Motown's executive vice president for marketing and artist development, says the company encourages mixtapes to promote their artists, but that it's important to partner with the right DJs. She says the label often gives DJs exclusive freestyle raps or songs that won't appear on an upcoming mainstream album.
"If you have a song or freestyle on a DJ Clue mixtape, you've sort of arrived, because it's hard to get on one.
Clue, whose tapes are peppered with hot material from established stars as well as up-and-comers, says he's very discerning about who he puts on. "You can't pay to get on a Clue tape,".

To be sure, some of the biggest stars still command large video budgets. While "Don't Forget About Us" had a relatively modest budget for Ms. Carey, another of her recent videos, "Say Somethin'" had a budget of around $1 million, according to people familiar with the project, partly due to filming on-location in Paris. Still, even this budget was well below some of Ms. Carey's biggest productions of the 1990s.

Universal's Morris takes home five times boss's pay
Doug Morris, the chairman and chief executive of Universal Music, earned €14.5m ($17.8m, £10m) in 2005 - more than five times the €2.5m earned by Jean-Bernard Lévy, his ultimate boss at Vivendi Universal, the record label's French parent company.
The American music mogul's salary and bonus package was disclosed for the first time in Vivendi Universal's 2005 annual report, released in advance of Thursday's annual shareholder meeting in Paris.
At Universal, the world's biggest record company by sales, Mr Morris presides over a roster of artists that include U2, Eminem, Mariah Carey, 50 Cent and Shania Twain.
Buoyed by strong sales of releases from Ms Carey and 50 Cent, Universal's operating profit rose by an underlying 19 per cent to €480m in 2005, while its global market share edged up from 25.5 per cent to 25.6 per cent.

As they write: "As part of the deal, Carey will also kick off her summer tour--for which dates have yet to be announced--with a one-off Pepsi Smash gig at Los Angeles' Kodak Theater. The performance will mark the Emancipation of Mimi singer's first full-scale concert show in more than three years." 
It's not correct guys, Mariah gave a wonderful 2 hours concert in Karlsruhe (Germany) in July 2005.

Mariah will be featured on ABC's Winfrey special
As reported yesterday, there will be a one-hour special "Oprah Winfrey's Legends' Ball" for 8 p.m. Monday, May 15.
Winfrey special will feature behind-the-scenes footage from a private series of bashes she hosted a year ago in honor of 25 women Winfrey deemed influential to her life and American culture. Weekend event included a white-tie ball, luncheon and gospel brunch.
Hour will also contain original interviews with participants looking back on the event.

Cincinnati worried : no concert booked yet
Lots of classic rock, plenty of country and at least two blockbusters tours are on the summer touring landscape announced so far from venues in Greater Cincinnati.
It is still early to completely predict the summer's highlight's since the tri-state's two outdoor venues, Riverbend Music Center and Fraze Pavilion in Kettering have announced perhaps less than half of their summer lineup. U.S. Bank Arena has checked in with two major tours (Pearl Jam and Faith Hill/Tim McGraw) with the possibility of more.
Area venues are still waiting to hear if some of this summer's mega-tours will make it to the tri-state. Last year the market was passed over by the "big three": U2, the Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney. Getting the most buzz this summer will be tours from Madonna, The Who, Prince, Radiohead, Mariah Carey, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Eric Clapton. None are yet booked here.

Oprah's Legends Ball will finally air on TV in the US on May 15th 8pm on ABC

The emancipation of Violetta
It was an idyllic day — a beautiful first full day of Spring. The sun was shining, the birds were singing. I was settling into my new job here at the Houston Voice. Pollen, chirp-chirping and hope filled the air.
I parked my car, my cute little Volkswagen Cabrio, on the street beside my office. Because it was such an idyllic day, I left the convertible top down with nothing of value inside the car. 
We have a special relationship, Violetta the VW and I. When I bought her I named her Violetta because, like me, she turns purple on bright, sunny days, yet has a tendency to get kind of blue on cloudy days. 
We talk a lot, Violetta and I; granted, she mostly listens. She is a pretty little thing when she is all washed and waxed. She even has a custom-made beaded necklace dangling from her rear-view mirror. It’s violet, too; I knew you were wondering. 
Violetta isn’t new, by any means; she has plenty of miles on her and a couple of worn spots on her upholstery. But who doesn’t?
After putting in a full day’s work, I strode out into the waning sunlight to the spot where I had earlier left Violetta basking. I looked up and down Whitney Street for her, ready to jump in, go home and relax. But she was gone. 
Stolen.
JUST ONE DAY LATER my car was found downtown near the old Enron building, mere miles from my Montrose-area office. After suffering considerable cosmetic damage and as-yet undetermined mechanical duress, Violetta will be returned to me within a couple weeks.
I went to the city storage lot to inspect her damage. Adding to my dismay, I found some nasty scrawlings etched into the upholstery, including an obscenity suggesting I do something with my mouth that I hadn’t done since the late ’70s. 
Written on the seat was the woman’s name "MiMi," as in "The Emancipation of MiMi". Could it be that Mariah Carey had stolen my car?

Carey's Late Perfume U-turn
riah Carey never wore perfume before agreeing to create a scent for Elizabeth Arden, because she was unable to find a fragrance which compliments her natural smell.
The 36-year-old finds the complex job of blending numerous fragrant ingredients comes naturally to her as it is a very similar process to songwriting.
She says, "It's gonna be the first fragrance I'm ever gonna wear because people are always, like, 'What perfume do you wear?' And I'm like, 'Nothing, it's probably my hairspray or me.' So now I'll have an actual perfume."
"I'm just sort of approaching it kinda like making a record... When you make a perfume it's like each little part of the fragrance is kinda like a note, so the fragrance is like a song."
Under the new Elizabeth Arden deal, Carey will develop and market her own line of fragrance products which will debut in department stores next year.

A story has been passed around via numerous publications and picked up on the Internet over the past year or so indicating that pop star Mariah Carey has invested in a vineyard in Mendocino County that bears her name. But Jim Caudill, spokesman for Brown-Forman, the distributor of Mariah Vineyard zinfandel, said that other than drinking the wine and liking it, Ms. Carey has no connection with the wine.
How does something like that get started? “Some blogger in the UK saw the TV show ‘MTV Cribs’ where Sir Richard Branson was showing some celebs, including Mariah, around his private island and she started talking about how she liked this wine and was shown drinking it,” Caudill said.

Mariah Carey is celebrating the one-year anniversary of her comeback album The Emancipation of Mimi with a special pair of boots. The pop superstar was given a brand new pair of Louis Vuitton boots after she filmed the video for new song Say Somethin' in the fashion house's Paris, France store. The boots are a one-of-a-kind pair that won't actually hit stores until this summer (06). Carey boasts, "These are my 'I'm-the-only-one-who-has-them-so-I'm-gonna-rock-'em' boots."

The world premiere of "Say Somethin'" wasn't on TRL
In fact the world premiere was on MTV Overdrive, as 2 Belgian fans (members of our forum) were able to watch it and one of them made the caps below a few hours ago (thanks David).
Anywayz, Mariah was on TRL today and according to the fans who watched the show, there was no big announcement.
No problemo, all is fine, a nice evening, a new awesome video (and even more when you were at the shooting in Paris), our Mariah in great shape, the shooting of a new movie, a Tour in the works, what more can we ask?????

The bird of paradise flaunted her toned abs and thighs while walking her pooch on a beach in Antigua. Our sunbathing snitch reveals: "Mariah had no make-up on but she still looked amazing - all eyes were on her.
"She's obviously spent many hours working on her figure and now wants to show it off."
Last month Mariah, 36, who releases her new single Say Somethin' in June, told us: "I've been working out like mad. But I've gotta slow it down because the other day someone told me my ass was disappearing - and I don't want to lose that."

Mariah's new video "Say Somethin’" gets simultaneous World Premiere on TRL and MTV Overdrive on Wednesday, April 12th
MTV announced today that it will exclusively world premiere the new Mariah Carey video, Say Somethin’ featuring Snoop Dogg and Pharrell. The video will premiere simultaneously on MTV and MTV Overdrive during “Total Request Live” on Wednesday, April 12th. TRL airs weekdays at 3:30pm ET/PT
In addition, MTV Overdrive (overdrive.mtv.com), the broadband network, will make the video available exclusively to fans on-demand for 24 hours immediately following the world premiere. 
You will also be able to catch an encore premiere of the video on Monday at 11pm immediately following the one hour season premiere of “My Super Sweet Sixteen”.
Say Somethin’ is the latest single and video from 2005’s best selling album The Emancipation of Mimi which also garnered three Grammy awards.

It looks like the German fans have to wait a few more weeks till they'll be able to see the video for "Say Somethin'" on German TV channels. Mariah's label Universal Germany let know, currently a video premiere is planned for April 28. However, the label is trying to make the video available earlier for the channels, they are also working on an online premiere.

The Quest for music

Is musical talent something you're born with or something you acquire (like a skill or a rash)? And is it even important to succeed in the music business? 
What's to stop our own Richard Quest from fulfilling a dream of seeing his CD on the shelves of high street record stores? Why can't he be up there with the likes of the Rolling Stones playing to audiences in excess of a million? Why doesn't ...? But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

It's a rocky road to rock royalty status. Most people start at the bottom, playing gigs in pubs and clubs, writing songs and sending demos to record labels in the hope that someone, somewhere will spot the hidden talent and sign them up as the next big thing. Jonathan Taylor, for example, is a hard-working music student who does just that -- he also happens to be Richard's nephew. Could it be that musical ability runs in the family? Richard signs up as Jonathan's roadie for his first taste of the music business.

Antonio "L.A." Reid represents the holy grail for someone like Jonathan. The head of Def Jam Records boasts an impressive artist roster, which includes rapper Kanye West and pop diva Mariah Carey. He has the power to hire and fire, and thus can make or break a musical career depending on whether he presses "play" or "eject" on the expensive CD player in his office. So how does an aspiring musician even get such an exalted music mogul to listen to the fruits of her labor? L.A. takes R.Q. into his confidence.

‘Quincy kept calling Mariah “Annie Rexia”’
A couple of weeks ago I told you all about joining Mariah and Pharrell in Paris for the shoot for MC's next single Say Something. Well, this past week I returned from LA where we had to do all Snoop's parts with him. It was a blast! 

MC's first shot of the day was in a bikini that only 24 hours earlier had been two Louis Vuitton scarves! Snoop and MC together are a blast! Can you imagine the jokes?! We were teaching Snoop all our phrases like “bleakosity”, “fabulosity", “moments", “opulence", and our very secret cocktail-toasting ritual.
The very first shot was well on its way when I heard all the security in their walkie-talkies getting over excited about the imminent arrival of a “Mr Jones”. I'm there thinking “who?” Then, as quiet as lil’ mice in walks... (are you ready for this readers?... I mean really ready?) In walks the legendary music impresario that is the great Quincy Jones with his sister! 
Quincy sat and watched Mariah's takes and cheered and clapped to encourage her, and even told me that: “Mariah has a great body – and there's not one brick out of place!” SAUCY DEVIL! (By the way, please excuse the red-eyed, crazed-woman look in this week’s picture – I was exhausted and had had no sleep for days by that point!) 
Quincy also explained to me that it was his birthday week - shared with his friend Michael Caine - and they've celebrated it together for years! 

Quincy watched MC on set and hung with us in her dressing room all night where we all stole quick moments of delicious Chinese food and champagne in between filming - so if the footage on the Making of the Video is a lil’ out of focus, I apologise. Hic! (Only kidding MTV bosses!) 
To my delight, Quincy was so nice and seemingly unaffected by his own legendary status. He was really warm and friendly and asked me to keep saying lots of English words that he liked hearing in a British accent that amused him like “aluminum” and “schedule”. 

Looking fit and glowing, MC did her thing all night till 8am and still looked fine. The camera crews were salivating as she worked her stuff in bikinis, dresses and more pip outfits that you can dream of! But afterwards Quincy kept calling her ‘Annie Rexia’ due to her ultra fit and slim new physique. He insisted she should eat some more food. Bravo Mr Jones! The press are constantly picking on her curves which, to most folks, is derogatory to a woman of colour who is born to be curvy. Also answer me this, why are Beyoncé's curves celebrated and Mariah's criticised? 
When the shoot was over, Snoop, who looked fly in a blue denim trilby hat, gave it to MC and I persuaded her to wear it for one more take – she rocked it! 

As we began to leave for breakfast at 8am and the Louis Vuitton store let MC choose gifts and we spent at least an hour deliberating exactly which pimp daddy patent shoes Snoop Dogg would like. 
US Vogue editor-at-large André Leon Talley suggested red as we all reclined in horror trying to explain to him that Snoop and red is touch and go with the whole wrong gang colours issue - though I have seen him in a red fur before. 
With the shoes chosen for both Pharrell and Snoop, Mariah and her team zoomed off to their private jet which, by this time, had been waiting four extra hours to take off. But they kindly sent me back to our hotel in style in a Rolls Royce Phantom which was so big it was nearly the size of my whole flat!
Ok, I know I'm a drama queen and sometimes slide into exaggeration, but readers, this vehicle was so big I could've invited Fat Joe, Vanessa Feltz, Pavarotti, Star Jones, Dawn French and Ruben Studdard to ride with me and there would’ve still been room left over to crack open a bottle of Perrier. 

Yeah, I'm off any of that strong alcoholic stuff. I was never actually “on it” but this week I'm reading stories about how ageing it is so if I want to still look 21 in a few years it’s strictly a Volvic diet for me from now on! Glug glug!

Here's the deal, here and there, at least once a day, an Easter egg with a letter will be posted somewhere on Heroes of Mariah .  All you need to do, is to find all the Easter eggs, collect the letters and when you'll have all the letters, find the secret word  (or something which makes sense).  The prizes are not Easter eggs , but some great Mariah stuff that the Easter Bunny will come take in my treasure drawer .  Clues to find the Easter eggs will be e-mailed to the active posters of our forum, so, become an active poster now .  If you don't want to become an active poster of our forum, you can still try to find all the Easter eggs.  The Heroes of Mariah Easter egg hunt contest starts today and will end this Sunday (Easter Sunday).  Good luck to everyone.

Jermaine Dupri has been saying he'd like to pair up his two favorite female singers — his girlfriend Janet Jackson and his longtime collaborator Mariah Carey — for a duet. But Carey says while Dupri hasn't approached her with the idea, she'd consider doing it. "I love Janet," Carey told MTV Radio. "I've been a big fan of Janet's since 'Control.' So if Jermaine has a concept, we should go and write something."

Mariah Carey was so heartbroken after reading reports of Whitney Houston's alleged descent into drug addiction, she has invited the fallen star to duet with her on her next album.

"Instant Live offers concertgoers a CD memento of the show immediately after the performance conclusion. The company can deliver a recording of the just-completed performance six minutes after the last note is played. Now, Universal Music will position a number of its artists within the Instant Live offering, and capture some of the excitement and revenue..."
"Financial details of the arrangement were not revealed, but the move is part of a steady move by majors to widen their business model. The Big Four have traditionally earned most of their revenues from the sale of pre-recorded CDs, and not....merchandising, live concerts, and sponsorships. But decreasing disc sales are putting more pressure on the labels to widen their outlook, and repair what has been a flawed business structure..."
The live music industry gathered recently in Las Vegas for trade magazine Pollstar's annual Concert Industry Consortium.  Keynote speaker Michael Rapino, head of concert promotion giant Live Nation (formerly Clear Channel, formerly SFX) laid out a long overdue fact based account of problems facing the touring industry:
"...of the total American population, 71 percent did not attend a live concert last year...That means only 29 percent of the population do attend live concerts every year....we can group these fans based on the number of shows they attended in the past year. What we call our Occasional Goer, those who only attended one concert in the last year, represent 23 percent of the population. Our Concert Goer group, those attended two concerts in the past year, represent just four percent of the population. And finally, our heavy fans, those we have called our Concert Aficionados, who attend three or more concerts a year, represent a  meager two percent of the total population."
...if we line up 100 random people against the wall...71 people never go to concerts. Why then do we spend millions of dollars on TV, radio & outdoor mass media trying to reach just these (other) 29 fans. Our advertising dollars are wasted on the 71 people who never come to concerts anyways..."
"We've got a lot to do, and we must re-engineer our business to service the new fan of today. The tables have turned. Power has shifted to the consumer....we need to remain immersed in technology, grounded in the streets and we must remain in constant contact with our customers...We must stop talking amongst ourselves. We need to start listening to the fan. 
As someone who spends most their days doing business in the live music industry, I can confirm that the lack of creative promotion on both the local and national is one of my greatest frustrations.  Promoters have done little to change their promotion efforts even their fans habits have changed.20 or even 10 years ago promoters booked a band, hooked up a radio co-promotion, and  waited for the record label to spend money.  Today labels have stopped investing in new talent (particularly in any long term way) and the avid music fan is probably listening to online broadcasts, satellite radio, or their iPod. 
Things need to change in the live music industry including smarter promotion and a better fan experience. Rapino, Live Nation, and trade magazine Polltsar appear to be trying to be a catalyst for that change.

Mariah was on 104.1 radio with Big Tigger 
Mariah was interviewed today by Big Tigger and she was talking about the Say Something video, about how she shot in both Paris and LA.
Also he asked her what the biggest difference between her years ago (Fantasy, O.D.B. era) and now. She said that while working with ODB was fun, everything else was "bleak" and how now everything is fantabulous.

Coldplay upfront on Mariah 
Coldplay's latest hit is an ode to the assets of Mariah Carey.
Except you would have had to have been at the China Club on Thursday to hear its one-off performance. 
Chris Martin's band was giving a private concert for winners of a contest sponsored by radio station WPLJ, when he was asked about the competition between Coldplay's "X&Y" and Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" for biggest-selling album of 2005.
When WPLJ reporter Brad Blanks asked Martin how he felt about having Mariah on his tail, he replied: "She's not, but one of her boobs is. They do most of her work. Last week I was chased down the street by an enormous boob. I think it was hers."
Martin even made up a song on the spot, sitting at his keyboard: "Man's been traveling through space and man's been to the moon and man's spent most of his intelligence desiring Mariah Carey boobs."
As the crowd laughed, he continued: "Mariah Carey's boobs are so nice, and she don't mess around. If she had been aboard the Titanic, there's no way that ship would have gone down."

Mary J. Blige denies a Tour with Mariah
A French fan who went to Mary's signing session in Paris last Tuesday, asked her if the rumor of her planning to Tour with Mariah was true.  Mary answered it was false and that she will first do a Tour on her own with an unknown group, then she will do a second Tour more "Soul" with Jamie Foxx.

Mariah Wants All Fans To See Her — And Even Smell Like Her
Mariah Carey practically reeks of the sweet smell of success, so she's planning to bottle it — as soon as she has the time between her next video, movie and tour.
The singer's just signed a licensing agreement with Elizabeth Arden, announced Thursday (April 6), to develop and market her own line of fragrance products to debut in department stores next spring. But she's still trying to figure out her schedule for this spring.
While her video for "Say Somethin' " is expected to hit video channels soon, Carey's got another clip to shoot for the gospel track "Fly Like a Bird," since she sent both singles out simultaneously (see "Mariah, Pharrell Hit Paris For Romantic Getaway In New Clip"). Carey's still figuring out the concept, which she's hoping to keep basic with the main guest stars being her pastor and church choir.
"We don't have a lot of time to do it," she said. "It's not a big-budget thing. But it doesn't need to be. It just needs to be about the song, capturing the song and the emotion of it."
After that's taken care of, Carey jets to the film set of the indie drama "Tennessee," which starts shooting in New Mexico and Tennessee this month for five weeks. She'll play a waitress who joins two brothers on a journey to find their estranged father. "It's not about my character, but she has an important part of the story without the whole thing resting on my shoulders," Carey said. "Plus, I'll be able to get up and go to work and be somebody else for the day, and we like that, because sometimes you just need to get away."
When "Tennessee" wraps, Carey will start to rehearse for her summer tour. She's still mapping out the dates, but don't worry — she's planning to keep ticket prices pretty reasonable.
"People ask me, 'Why don't you just go on tour and charge huge amounts of money? Do these small venues, but charge thousands and thousands of dollars to go in,' " Carey said. "Because I have fans of all different ages and different money ranges, and they can't afford to go out and spend that kind of money. Not everybody has a budget to go out and go really high-end."
Just because it won't be high-end doesn't mean it won't be high-concept. Carey's dream scenario would be to feature "every artist I've ever worked with."
"I've worked with so many big names, it'd be so much fun, just for one show. That would be hot," Carey said. "You never know."

Mariah scheduled to be on Marc Cummings' new MTV cooking show

Chef Marc Cummings wants to teach others how to cook.
"I want to demystify the secrets of cooking and get people to feel empowered and go home and make recipes," Cummings said in a recent telephone interview.
Cummings, a San Diego resident, is scheduled to showcase his talents at 3 p.m. April 23 at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert.
Cummings, a former tennis pro, is scheduled to have his own MTV cooking show in May. Celebrities, including Will Smith and Mariah Carey, are scheduled to be on the show. The two-hour show will highlight travel, food, music and fashion, he said.
Cummings is known for taking 3½-hour recipes and shortening them to about 20 minutes.
At age 17, while he was in France to play tennis, he started his cooking career at the prestigious Cordon Bleu cooking school.
He attended the school in the late '70s, going on and off for 12 years while playing tennis.
"I wasn't going as a full-time student," he said, adding he would have finished in five years if he had gone full time.
After graduating, he became an executive chef in San Diego and eventually opened his own cooking school.
Cummings said he's not a real fan of the microwave but thinks it is great for making baked potatoes.

Patisserie Lulu made a Butterfly cake for Mariah
Four years ago, Jay Muse and his partner Victor Gonzalez opened Patisserie Lulu, a kosher bakery in Scarsdale.
Today, the bakery is known throughout the country and the world  for its meticulously designed, three-dimensional cakes.
Q: You've made cakes for celebrities? Who? And what kind of cakes?
A: Most recently, we made a cake for the artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude. It was for the one year anniversary of "The Gates." We created a miniature scale section of Central Park, complete with a sidewalk, green buttercream grass and replicas of the infamous bright orange "gates" made to look as if they were blowing in the wind. It was a chocolate devil's food cake layered with hazelnut ganache, milk chocolate mousse and caramelized organic hazelnuts.
We created a three dimensional butterfly cake for Mariah Carey with over 20 different species of butterflies flying out of it, a couture designer dress cake for Isaac Mizrahi, Baby Elephant cupcakes for Britney Spears' shower … We have also done stuff for Whitney Houston, Clive Davis, the late Dana and Chris Reeve (She was such a sweetheart) and the list goes on …

But the CD industry isn't giving up trying to get your business. There’s a new marketing gimmick businesses are hoping music lovers will tune into. 

Mariah Carey made a huge comeback last year. “The Emancipation of Mimi" was such a big hit that her record company even released a second version… the platinum edition. That set comes with four new songs and a DVD.
Duncan Brown is with ‘Newbury Comics’. He says repackaged CD's are becoming more popular. Artists as diverse as 50 Cent and Elton John are releasing them. 
"Sometimes the artist has recorded more songs than make it on the original CD and if the CD is successful, the record company decides to release additional stuff," Brown said.

Music lovers have mixed reactions to these expanded CD’s.
“I think it’s kinda a rip-off to the audience to tell you the truth, it’s like release it the first time the right way."
“I think its ok, because uh, if I missed it the first time around I can get it the second time and maybe get something new."

These days, even established stars like Madonna have seen their CD sales slump as more and more people download their music. In fact, CD sales have fallen more than 10% over the last two years.
The music industry is also trying some other tactics to get people to physically buy their music again.
Take Carly Simon's release, “Moonlight Serenade,” it's what's called a dual disc.
“There’s a 2-sided disc, one side is audio and the other side is video. For roughly the same price as just the CD," Brown said.

Even with these approaches the future of the CD is gloomy.
Experts say the majority of consumers are going to be obtaining their music in other ways.
Legal downloads doubled in 2004 and grew at an even faster rate in 2005. Unfortunately, if you still buy CD's, there's no way to know if a repackaged version will follow the release of the original.

A teenager dyes her poodles cotton-candy pink to match her party dress - that's right, MTV's "My Super Sweet 16" is back.
If you can't get enough of spoiled, rich kids and their oversized coming-of-age birthday bashes, "Sweet 16" starts its third season with back-to-back parties next Wednesday night. 
 

Not to be outdone is the party thrown by Aaron Reid (that's right, boys can have Sweet 16s, too) - son of Island Def Jam music mogul L.A. Reid - at Jay-Z's top-shelf 40/40 club. 

Although the show's done celebrity kids before , "Aaron takes it to new heights," Diaz says. 

"L.A. Reid's a huge music mogul, so what Aaron has at his fingertips is pretty incredible." 

Having just moved to New York from Atlanta, "Aaron really wanted to make a statement, make his mark and let his school friends know that he's here," Diaz says. 

"He knows that the pressure is on, that he's got to deliver celebs because his dad is L.A. Reid, so he wants Kanye West to come and for Mariah Carey and P. Diddy to be there. It's his quest to make all of that happen."

Unfortunately, things don't look too good: No famous musicians can make it and his invitations don't show up, leading to his prep school friends thinking poor Aaron is all talk. Which spurs Papa Reid to action. 

"There's a really great scene where his dad lays down the law [with the printers] about his son's reputation and these invitations needing to be delivered," says Diaz. 

Ultimately, the new invitations end up being real MP3 players sent to his friends with a recorded message about the party details.

Reluctant to give too much away, Diaz says that "the party definitely stands out, and he throws a celebration on a level we haven't seen before." 

Every season, "we're totally surprised. Just when we think, 'God, no one can top that, or we'll never see anything on a scale like this again,' we do. The grandness and scale of these parties doesn't seem to waning at all, in fact, they just seem to be getting more popular," Diaz says.

Mariah nominated for an ALMA AWARD

Mariah is nominated in the "Outstanding Female Performer" category.
The 2006 NCLR ALMA AWARDS will be taped on May 7.
The ALMA Awards was created in 1995 as part of NCLR's strategy to promote fair, accurate, and balanced portrayals of Latinos in television, film, and music. Born out of a direct response to negative stereotyping of Latinos in entertainment, these awards honor Latino performers for their outstanding artistic achievement, impact, and enhancement of the image of Latinos.
This show, airing on ABC on June 5, 2006 is the only Latino-themed prime-time awards special produced on any of the four major English-language networks. The show was named "ALMA" (Spanish for "spirit" or "soul") which represents the determined spirit of the Latino people in an effort to reflect the spirit as well as the scope of the awards program.
Due to 90 minute broadcast duration, only a select number of ALMA AWARD presentations will be presented on air. Additional ALMA AWARDS will be presented in a pre-show and Gala Dinner the evening prior to the telecast.

Z100, one of the most important radio stations in the United States will be talking to Mariah live tomorrow morning as part of their morning show. They are currently running an ad announcing it. You can hear Z100 online on their website
Mariah is also featured on the homepage of Z100 as part of "Music on Demand". There you can watch some recent Mariah videos and also listen to the latest two singles from The Emancipation of Mimi, Fly Like a Bird and Say Somethin’.

"Fly Like A Bird" Official Remixes 
According to DJ Rico, "Fly Like A Bird" is offically being remixed by Richard Vission & David Harness.
David Harness is known for his house mixes for R&B artists. Fans claim that one of his many great works was a deeply funky house remix of Aretha Franklin's "Wonderful" from 2005.
A recent popular work by Richard Vission was the remix to The Killers' "Mr. Brightside."

Mariah praises "Big Jim" Wright on Steve Harvey’s radio show.
Grammy Award-winning songbird Mariah Carey sent a shout out to Jimmy Wright this week during her interview on Steve Harvey’s syndicated radio show. 
Rockford native “Big Jim” Wright, as the successful producer is known, co-wrote “Fly Like A Bird,” the gospel song on Carey’s best-selling 2005 album, “The Emancipation of Mimi.” 
The song has Wright’s soulful vibe and opens with one of my favorite Scripture-based sayings: “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning light.” 
Wright has worked with Carey for years, writing and producing songs, as well as playing music for the singer famous for her five-octave vocal range. He also has worked with Janet Jackson, Sting and Usher, just to name a few.
Before hitting the big time with Sounds of Blackness and superproducers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Wright played organ for several local churches, including Bethel Baptist and Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal. 
He returns to Rockford several times a year for various occasions. He and Destiny’s Child star Michelle Williams made appearances at the ‘70s Landmark Gospel Concert Lori Flemming organized in March. 
It’s great to see hometown folks become superstars and remember their roots.

"Get Your Number" in Belgium update 
Incredible!!!!!!!!  Each week I think it's the last week, but on Belgian radio "Radio Contact" (for the French speaking part of Belgium), "Get Your Number is now since 24 weeks in the "Hit Contact" (most requested top 50).  This is of course great, great news, but the track prevents "Don't Forget about Us" to enter this Top.

"Last month Arnold Tinker, spokesperson for the Department of Justice, said during the official press conference that "Mariah Carey's continued refusal to abide by the strictures of the 2004 agreement on uncompetitive practices has led us to invoke Article 56 of Section 8 from the same". Mr. Tinker is referring to the agreement Ms. Carey signed with the department in March of 2004, in which she agreed to help promote competition by releasing a single of one local artist on each disc from the district where the disc is offered for sale.
"Ms. Carey" continued Mr. Tinker, "has the possession of monopoly power in the relevant market and has used her willful acquisition or maintenance of that power as distinguished from growth or development as a consequence of a superior product, business acumen, or historic accident. This is exactly what the public expects us to protect them against."
Government attorneys and music industry activists claim that Ms. Carey uses her market power to maintain her grip, often to the tune of 85-90% of the female pop sector's total sales, according to industry experts. "It's like I can't turn on the radio without hearing one of her songs…it's awesome!!!!" says Mrs. Debra Maloney, of Long Island, New York. But screaming fans aside, Ms. Carey's dominance of her market has important implications to the long-term health of the music industry."

The nominees for the inaugural Sony Ericsson Stylus DJ Awards, which take place on May 29 at Toronto`s York Event Theatre, have been announced. Nominees were selected by a group of industry experts via a national online voting system, and the voting committee will determine the winners.

Accomodation for travelling Mariah fans in the UK 

The American songbird has been spotted in London two months ago to buy her own hotel and is reportedly in talks with Double Decker Living.  "Mariah wants the fans who are travelling to greet her from outside London—and even the country—, to have a safe and affordable stay.  She's in talks with Double Decker Living to buy at least six buses, the transaction has not been completed yet".
Every bus has a communal ‘family’ type area where occupants interact and socialise. Audio and visual facilities are provided so that quality time together is of whatever nature the residents choose.
The provision of ‘private space’ is also crucial and to this end each bedroom is a comfortable, ventilated and heated
space with its own window to provide light levels far beyond that which most of us experience within a more conventional dwelling.
On the outside they look like ordinary London double-deckers, but inside they have been transformed to provide five lockable private sleeping berths upstairs, living space downstairs, a shower and a toilet.
