Celine Dion will probably welcome Mariah Pure Fun Pure, the colossal 36,000-square foot nightclub at Caesars Palace, makes its debut tonight with Mariah Carey leading the countdown to midnight.  During a tour on Thursday, managing partner Robert Frey said he was confident the club would be "100 percent ready" as dozens of workers added finishing touches.  "When we dim the lights, it's the sexiest club in the country," said Frey, whose nightclub empire includes Coyote Ugly (New York-New York), Tangerine (Treasure Island) and Bikinis (Rio).  Celine Dion, who is among the celebrity investors with Shaquille O'Neal, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, is reported to be making an appearance tonight.  Pure features a third-floor open-air terrace, white leather chairs, couches and beds and an opulent red room for VIPs. It's a good thing I'm not famous By Janet Urquhart I've decided I'm the consummate Aspenite - oblivious to the glitterati in our midst. Hell, I'm so nonchalant, I don't know a celeb when I see one. Of course, it's not like the jet set and I cross paths all that often. About the time they're being seated for dinner in some swank restaurant, I'm thinking about heading off to bed without flossing, because I'm too tired to make the effort. But when I encountered a crowd of gawkers and paparazzi outside a local jewelry store one night this week, I figured I'd stumbled upon some serious star power. I'm talking onlookers. I'm talking a cluster of those camera-toting celebrity trackers who snap unexceptional photos of people doing unexceptional things so we can pass the time looking at the pictures while we're standing in the ridiculous lines at City Market. So, like a lesser mortal, I pressed my nose against a pane of Cooper Avenue glass for a glimpse of, I dunno, Brad picking up some new bling for Jen or something. I figured somebody of Julia Roberts' stature was going to pop out onto the sidewalk and flash a smile that would make the Tooth Fairy woozy. Instead, I saw a small group of the beautiful people dressed in "Aspen chic" milling about. I recognized no one, but I figured I was supposed to, so I stood there, mesmerized by no one in particular. Someone in the crowd muttered something about Barbara Walters, so I scanned the store's clientele anew, now that I had a clue. No one looked remotely like Barb, so I finally stepped away from the window and admitted defeat. "So what's up?" I asked, conceding my ignorance. "Mariah Carey's in there!" someone informed me excitedly. Much to my amusement, some old fart in the crowd asked, "Who the hell is Mariah Carey?" The guy is standing out in the cold, hoping to catch a glimpse of someone he's never heard of? Finally, someone trumps me in the chump department. At least I recognized the name, if not the face.  Admittedly, I wouldn't know Mariah Carey if she knocked on my door and I wouldn't know a Mariah Carey song if she sang it to me in person. I had to log onto the Internet the next day and look her up, just to confirm I'd seen someone in the store who remotely resembled the face on her website. Yes, I believe it was Mariah. At least, the woman I spied looked a lot more like the singer than she looked like Barbara Walters. Anyway, I wandered home thinking about what a pain it must be to cause a sensation everywhere you go. Imagine not being able to duck into the grocery store in baggy sweat pants and a frayed T-shirt for an Eskimo Pie without winding up on a tabloid cover. It's a good thing I'm not talented and beautiful. Fame and fortune would cramp my lifestyle. Leaks spread on UK radio Tracks from the new Mariah album continue to make an impact on UK radio. The two biggest urban stations in London have played new Mariah material in the last few days: On Monday night on the Smooth Grooves Show on Kiss FM, they played ‘Say Something’. The presenter mentioned that they’d played Tonight the previous week and that this track (SS) would most likely be the new single. The two presenters then commented on how great Mariah was sounding. The track itself was an obvious radio edit compared to the version that was on the internet. Both Snoop’s rap and Mariah’s verses had been cut down. On Wednesday morning on the George Kay mid-morning show Choice FM played Tonight. George, who knows Mariah’s pal Jasmine, really hyped it up saying that the album wasn’t out for about ‘five months’ and that this was a special preview of a track from The Emancipation of Mimi. Remembering Ol' Dirty Bastard by Sabrina Ford It wasn’t the first time that mainstream media blatantly misrepresented hip-hop, and I suspect it won’t be the last. However, the coverage of Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s death and the subsequent look at, or rather criticism of, his life were a fine example to support the argument that not only does mainstream media not understand hip-hop, but they also could care less about reporting on news related to hip-hop in a respectful and honest fashion.  The first half of the article reads like a typical obituary -- this is who he was, this is what he did. The second half, however, was a complete review of ODB’s criminal record. The article also suggested that ODB’s death was drug-related. Results of his autopsy have not yet been made public and while there have been rumors that ODB was doing cocaine for two days straight or more recently, that a bag containing a white substance was found in his stomach, friends and family members have said that he was staying clean. If drugs did or didn’t play a role, it was in poor taste for AP to make such a suggestion so early on.  I don’t mean to suggest that ODB’s criminal record should not have been mentioned in the article. The problems he had with drugs and the crimes he committed are a part of his story. What bothers me is that whoever took the time to find all of ODB’s crimes and incidents of “erratic behavior” didn’t feel it was equally as important to find out what ODB meant to hip-hop.  Wu Tang Clan is one of the most important and influential groups in hip-hop history. No other group has launched the solo careers of so many of its members. ODB stood out among his group mates as a rapper like no other. ODB always seemed to be having fun and therefore his music was fun. His appeal crossed over into the world of pop when he was a guest on Mariah Carey’s #1 single, “Fantasy.” It was on this track that ODB delivered one of the most memorable song lines of the 90s: “Me and Mariah go back like babies and pacifiers.”  ODB was not famous for being a criminal; he was famous for being an eccentric, creative, and enduring entertainer. He wasn’t, to us, the out of control drug addict he has been portrayed as since his death. He was ODB whose every line of every verse of every song was memorable, whether you liked it or not. ODB’s rap persona was loud, obnoxious, funny, raunchy, sweet, angry and kind, like a lovable cross between a Gremlin and a teddy bear. And that’s how I choose to remember the dirty old bastard. Extreme Makeover Home Edition  In the US on ABC there is a TV show called Extreme Makeover Home Edition where each week they pick a deserving needy family, send them on vacation and completely renovate their house while they are gone in 7days. Sunday before last they picked the Broadbent family in Las Vegas a woman who has cancer and her 3 adopted daughters who all have HIV. The oldest daughter, Hydeia, I recognized as the girl Mariah gave an award to about 6 years ago in NY at the Essence awards. She received an award for her work as an AIDS activist. I remember her b/c when she got the award from MC she sang "Me and Mariah" like ODB in Fantasy. This week she is on the cover of TV guide. They tore down their old house and built them a new one, gave them a car and Elton John autographed a piano. I thought it was a feel good story in time for Christmas and it has an MC connection. Mariah Carey's Dreaming Of A Disney — And Broadway — Christmas  By Jennifer Vineyard, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway and Shaheem Reid Jessica Simpson might be the holiday pinup of 2004, thanks to her recent album and TV show, but Mariah Carey is a close second, even though her Christmas album was released 10 years ago. Thanks to the online resurgence of Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You," Carey's dreaming of a Disney — and a Broadway — Christmas. Carey's signed on to perform at the 21st annual Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade, where she'll sing "Joy to the World" as well as "All I Want for Christmas," which currently ranks as a top-10 seller — and was recently the best-selling holiday song — on iTunes. The two-hour parade, which will be hosted by Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, will be broadcast at 1 p.m. ET on December 25 on ABC, and will also feature performances from Ashanti, "American Idol" favorites Kelly Clarkson and Diana DeGarmo, and country stars Wynonna Judd and Shedaisy. But that's not all — Carey's also planning ahead for next year, when she would like to make her Broadway debut. It's too early for many details on the project, but the singer hopes to create, produce and star in an annual Christmas musical, according to her label publicist.  For now, she's content to star on her upcoming album, The Emancipation of Mimi (due out March 22), for which she's enlisted a slew of collaborators. Mariah trashed and insulted on an Australian radio Here's what Neva2far4MC said: "I heard "Say Something" on Australian radio 104.1 (2DayFM) in Sydney. It was on their 'rate the music' segment. It was up against Australian Idol 2 runner up Anthony Callea's new single 'The Prayer' (A Celine Dion/Andrea Bocelli remake). Unfortunately, Mariah lost to 'The Prayer'. She got only 10% of the votes, whilst the other song got 90%. Jermaine Dupri Producing All-Star 'We Are The World' Sequel  Attention all top-flank recording artists: One of music's top-flank producers needs a little help for a great cause; he wants to make history — again. Jermaine Dupri has been called on to produce an updated version of one of the (if not the) most legendary collaborations of all time, "We Are the World." "It's called 'We Are the Future" The plan is to record the song on February 13, the night of Grammy Awards, Dupri said. After the ceremony, a big celebrity bash is going to be held, and artists who will be participating in the project will be pulled out periodically to a nearby studio. Dupri wants to record the song at A&M Recording Studios, the same place "We Are the World" was made in 1985. Dupri said this new track is automatically going to be different from "We Are the World" because it'll have rappers on it, but he's hoping that it will strike a chord like its predecessor. "We Are the Future" is just a fraction of what music fans are going to be hearing from Dupri in the coming months. He's looking for a new home for his So So Def imprint, and when that gets solidified he plans to put out albums by himself and Da Brat. Pure at Caesars Palace Its target opening date is New Year's Eve. That night's admission: $125, an industry standard price for Dec. 31. Mariah Carey and some of her friends will stroll inside, by contract, and she will sing at least one song. Onstage, if Carey looks left, she will see people sitting on four beds, as many as 20 people per bed. If she looks right, she will see glass elevators that lead one floor up to the roof, which has its own name, The Terrace.  People who take the elevator to the roof will see the Las Vegas Strip, from the light-bulby Flamingo to the hoity Bellagio, down to golden Mandalay Bay. Customers will be penned-in on the porcelain-tiled Terrace by glowing, glass railings. They may sit on bottle beds for the price of a few hundred dollars.  If they take the glass elevator back down to Pure to see Carey take a breath, they will see her inhale air that is pumped into the club through secret 8-inch tubes snaking out of a hidden air-cleaning system that measures roughly the size of a railroad car.  Pure cost $14 million to $15 million to build.  Just to install soda lines to all the bars in the club cost $70,000.  It has a room just for celebrity customers. Some VIP booths will have a see-through screen set up for couples so either significant other can walk behind the opaque backdrop and perform a seductive dance in silhouette.  The club will conduct a national talent search to find women entertainers. Interesting Mariah is set to star on Broadway – in her own show! Hot Stuff has learned that Carey will create, produce and star in a yearly, Christmas-themed musical, set to debut next year. “It will be an event for people to look forward to, like the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall,” manager Benny Medina tells Hot Stuff.  Carey fans will soon have a new album to listen to while they wait for her stage debut. Her latest, The Emancipation of Mimi (that’s her nickname!), hits stores March 22. The disc has “fun, cool stuff that everyone can sing along to,” Carey told Us at a Fresh Air Fund Thanksgiving party in Brooklyn, New York City, on November 24. “This album has a retro theme; it’s Minnie Riperton meets Pattie LaBelle meets DeBarge.”  She also has plans to hit Las Vegas for New Year’s Eve, where she’s slated to host a party at Caesars Palace marking the opening of a nightclub called Pure. Will we have another saga? Yesterday, we were all excited about the "New Year's Eve at PURE Nightclub with Mariah Carey".  Today, it's not that clear, Alexsander called to Cesars Palace, and they told him that the club its not even open yet , but it will this month and that they have Mariah Carey as the performer for New years Eve, but they dont know if its gonna be a concert or just a few songs.  Aladerri called also the Box Office from Ceasars Palace and they don't have any information about it. Basically they told him to keep on calling and maybe in a few days they will know more. This is so strange, how can the promoters of this event publish infos, call numbers and ticket prices if the club is still in works? Dish tuning up for new music channel EchoStar, record label close to deal on satellite-TV outlet EchoStar Communications Corp. is close to cementing a deal with recording giant Universal Music Group to start a new 24-hour music video channel available only on satellite TV, a source familiar with the negotiations said.  The network would launch early next year and provide an alternative to MTV and similar channels, airing a variety of music videos from UMG artists, which include Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Sheryl Crow, blink-182 and Shania Twain. Sources said executives from the two companies met several times over the past few weeks and are in the final stages of cementing a deal.  The idea is to start a network that will offer an alternative to music video channels such as MTV, MTV2 and VH1. The leaked tracks saga continues  Yesterday I told you some fans heard the tracks on 2 US radios, today, Dino got an mp3 of the "Say Something" version the KC101 in Conneticut station played, and it sounds so cut up. Damizza:"How Crybaby was born" As a producer, Damizza uses a variety of techniques to put together his beats. “It very much depends on the artist. If you take Mariah for instance, and the song ‘Cry Baby’ which I did with her and Snoop Dogg, that record started after a night out and we were all in my car on our way home. I had some beats in there and she wanted to hear them. She just picked that track out of several and then said I wanna put one of those high keyboards into it.
