It's tomorrow....
Tomorrow will be a great night for fans in New York.  Mariah will be part of the New Year's Eve event on Time Square and will also perform.  Several good friends of mine and real fans will attend the party at Cipriani where Mariah is expected  after the New Year's Eve show, they will have a great time for sure.
Also, Bloomberg.com reports:
"Grammy winner Mariah Carey won't be singing at ``4 Degrees Presents Mariah Carey's Cipriani 42'' on East 42nd Street, says 4 Degrees' chief operating officer Jeff Goldstein. The star will appear along with Ryan Seacrest, host of ``American Idol,'' the singing contest that propelled News Corp.'s Fox Broadcasting Co. to the No. 1 spot last season.
At $2,400 for a table for six in the VIP lounge, the event offers disc jockeys, an open bar and a chance to make 2,000 new friends. Carey and Seacrest stop by after appearing on ``Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve,'' broadcast from Times Square on Walt Disney Co.'s ABC."

Carey wants to snowboard in 2006
Mariah Carey is determined to learn to snowboard, and has decided to make it her new year's resolution.
The superstar singer admits she's always been too lazy and has wasted winter holidays in ski resorts because she can't get out of bed on time.
Carey confesses, "This year, I'm going to try snowboarding. For the past six years, I've been trying to learn, but it just isn't happening. I like to sleep until 3pm when I'm on my holidays, and the ski lift closes at 4pm. So I usually get dressed up in a festive ensemble - either a Chanel, Dior or Lagerfeld outfit - and then I go shopping."

New York prepares for Times Square celebration
A cast of hundred of thousands - along with the likes of Carson Daly, Regis Philbin and Mariah Carey - is expected to jam Times Square Saturday to welcome 2006.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg will lower the ball on the new year with an assist from six people who helped in the recovery of the Gulf Coast and other areas hit by disasters in 2005.
The traditional New Year's extravaganza will feature its usual trappings, from the descent of the 1,070-pound crystal sphere into Times Square to the return of Dick Clark, who missed his annual gig last year after suffering a stroke.
But at least the crowds won't have to endure the deep freeze that's gripped New York during recent New Year's celebrations. Temperatures are expected to hover just above the freezing mark.
The celebration is set to kick off at 6 p.m., with the raising of the ball atop 1 Times Square.
Tight security standards will be in place, with helicopters overhead, police boats in the rivers and counterterrorism teams in Times Square. Revelers also will go through metal detectors, and there are bans on booze and backpacks.
There are no specific threats, said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.
"Every year we worry a lot," Bloomberg said. "And every

Big comebacks
2005 was a great year for Mariah Carey and Green Day
When it came down to it, 2005 seemed a lot like 1995.
In a music scene obsessed with creating and pumping up new stars, where artists start looking long in the tooth after three albums, 2005 was dominated by two relatively ancient Clinton-era holdovers: Mariah Carey and Green Day.
Carey, who was all but written off after her disastrous "Glitter" debacle in 2001, posted the comeback-of-a-lifetime with her superb "The Emancipation of Mimi" (billed, pre-release, as "The Return of the Voice"), which produced four hit singles, including the massive summer anthem "We Belong Together." The album has sold 4.8 million copies -- surpassing the combined sales of her last threealbums-- and was nominated for eight Grammys, including Album of the Year.
Carey and Green Day -- on their ninth and seventh studio albums, respectively -- proved that newer isn't always better, and showed there is still room for career longevity in a music industry increasingly propagated by "American Idol" culture and prefab pop stars who release greatest hits albums two years into their career (Hilary Duff, we're looking at you). Carey's and Green Day's banner years were as unlikely as they were deserved.

The ups and downs of the music scene; '05 got ugly (no offense, Mariah)
The year 2005 wasn't a pretty one for most of the music industry.
Album sales and touring profits continued to fall. The big labels waged war on consumers through more illegal downloading lawsuits, and a CD spyware scandal that left many music fans' computers exposed to hackers or riddled with unwanted programs.
The year won't be remembered for creativity in the mainstream, either. The most commercially successful artists - gangsta retread 50 Cent and glossy adult-contemporary comeback queen Mariah Carey - weren't exactly pioneers.
There were some bright spots in 2005, however, like legal downloading becoming more user-friendly.
You know we love to point fingers. So here are our picks for the winners and losers in music this year, for better or worse.
Winners: Women in pop. Mariah, Mariah, Mariah. The multi-octavalicious songbird made a huge commercial comeback with "The Emancipation of Mimi," which gave her the No. 1-selling song of the year, "We Belong Together," according to Billboard. Carey also is in a three-way tie with John Legend and Kanye West for the most Grammy nominations, with eight possible wins going in to the February awards show.

FAB FEMALE
Mariah Carey WHAT a comeback year 2005 has been for diamond diva Mariah Carey!
A string of hits - including We Belong Together and Don't Forget About Us - has seen her equal Elvis Presley's record of 17 US number ones, and she's been a favourite on the party circuit, too. A girl who enjoys champers and partying as much as she does is a girl after our own heart.

Allure: No More Dramas
Back in ‘97, Mariah Carey signed girl group Allure after the Trackmasters bought the New York quartet to her attention. Though the superstar’s label Crave folded soon after, the girls were quickly snapped up by major label MCA. When that situation also went south, the girls regrouped and have since downsized to a trio. But while they’ve not been in the public eye for a minute, Allure are back with a brand new album and they’re ready to rock.
Lets talk about the label dramas. What happened with Mariah?
We were caught between the divorce and she needed to focus on her own career before she could do anything with ours.
Do you still see Mariah?
No, we have not seen her as far as to speak to her, but God bless her and her new album.

Why you'll remember "Forget":
By Fred Bronson
It was already Mariah Carey's most successful year on the charts, but she manages to pull off one final stunning achievement in the very last week of 2005 by moving into pole position on the Billboard Hot 100 with her 17th No. 1 song.

"Don't Forget About Us" becomes the No. 1 song that ties Presley's 17 chart-toppers, putting Carey and Presley into a tie for second place among artists with the most No. 1 hits in the rock era, behind the Beatles' 20.
Presley secured his 17th No. 1 the week of Nov. 1, 1969, when "Suspicious Minds" marched into first place. The Beatles collected their 20th No. 1 the week of June 13, 1970, when "The Long and Winding Road" / "For You Blue" reached the summit. The standings of the top two artists with the most No. 1 songs has not changed since then, so by tying Presley, Carey has altered a record that has stood for 35 years, six months and three weeks.

Presley first topped the Billboard pop singles tally the week of April 21, 1956, with his debut chart entry, "Heartbreak Hotel." It took him 13 years, six months and two weeks to rack up his 17 No. 1s. Carey first led the Hot 100 the week of Aug. 4, 1990, with her initial chart entry, "Vision of Love." It has taken her 15 years, four months and four weeks to amass her 17 No. 1 songs.

"Don't Forget About Us" is Carey's 16th No. 1 as a songwriter. She already held the title of the female songwriter with the most No. 1 hits in the rock era. With her 16th song to achieve pole position, she ties Barry Gibb for third place on the list of the songwriters with the most No. 1 hits. Only Paul McCartney with 32 and John Lennon with 26 have more.

"Don't Forget About Us" is the eighth No. 1 of 2005 on the Hot 100. That's the fewest amount of chart-topping titles in a calendar year since 2002, when seven songs moved to the head of the class. There were 11 No. 1 songs in 2003, and the same number in 2004.

"Don't Forget About Us" is the fourth No. 1 song this year by a solo female artist, following Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl," Carey's "We Belong Together" and Carrie Underwood's "Inside Your Heaven." Three of this year's chart-toppers were by male artists: "Let Me Love You" by Mario, "Gold Digger" by Kanye West featuring Jamie Foxx and "Run It!" by Chris Brown. There was one co-ed No. 1, "Candy Shop," by 50 Cent featuring Olivia. Carey is the only artist to have two No. 1 songs on the Hot 100 in 2005.

Congrats Mariah!!!!!!!!
Mariah Carey had plenty to celebrate. The Emancipation of Mimi climbed a spot to seven on 191,000 copies, up 50,000 discs from last week. Her 36-week tally now tops 4.5 million copies. Her smash hit "We Belong Together" topped Billboard's year-end Hot 100 list, having spent 14 weeks at number one, the longest such run for any artist in eight years.
Last but not least, her new Mimi-generated hit, "Don't Forget About Us," ruled this week's Hot 100, giving her the 17th number one single of her career. She has now tied Elvis Presley for the most number ones by a solo artist and ranks behind only the Beatles, who notched 20 chart-toppers, on the all-time list.

Jasmine's juice
WOW – it’s finally the end of the year. Where did all that time go? What did we achieve this year? Is the world a better place for all our efforts this December?
From live shows that included full orchestral bands and the courage to speak out for people of colour against the most powerful man in the world, Kanye represented lovely. As if that wasn’t enough he lived up to his word and brought us one of the best pieces of music with his album – which gets my vote for one of the unsurpassed albums of the year. The other album of the year came from vocalist extraordinaire Mariah Carey who also deserves “biggest comeback of the year” alongside her homeboy big Snoop Dogg. Every other artist that’s been through the fire has rarely risen phoenix-like to break records, with an album so on top of this year’s female game, it’s nearly a miracle.
From a few heavy years of hateration set up by her former contemporaries, to a mass media campaign to kill her career and spirit, her faith in herself and God came through for her and she’s living proof that you can “make it through the rain” to conquer all. Mariah and Mr West both ended 2005 on a fittingly big note with eight Grammy nominations each. Thaaat’s right!
Okay, that’s about enough badness, madness and sadness for this year. Happy holidays readers – whilst you read this I’m rollin’ in some fluffy snow in my bikini with Mariah in the mountains and getting ready for Santa with a huge mug of hot chocolate with butterscotch schnapps. Peace be with you and yo crew.

Carey demands more respect
Mariah Carey is sick of her bad reputation, insisting she deserves more respect for her achievements in music.
The singer claims the media unfairly allows men to be creative songwriters, but portrays women as divas.
Carey - the biggest selling female solo artist in the 1990s - says, "It's kind of difficult for people to see me as this diva and then to also realise that I do write my own songs and produce the records.
"Quite frankly, it's much easier for men to get credit than women, particularly since I am not sitting behind a piano or a guitar.
"My voice is my instrument."

Carey's Big Night In Vegas
Mariah Carey enjoyed another big night in Las Vegas, Nevada on Monday night after claiming three big honours at the Radio Music Awards - but she almost missed out on the celebrations.
She says, "I was trying to get there and I was rushing. I'm infamous for having a little wardrobe malfunction but we got it together."
Among her haul, Carey picked up the night's Radio Legend Award, while her We Belong Together ballad earned her Song of the Year honours on Mainstream Hit Radio and Urban Rhythmic Radio.

Mariah Re-Gifts Fur Coats
Mariah Carey is not letting her recent 8-Grammy nominations go to her head.  The singer recently received a pair of fur coats as a gift from a Russian admirer, but rather than flaunt the furs on a red carpet, the animal-loving pop diva decided they might be better off in the hands of PETA.  A PETA spokesperson told us that Mariah’s generous donations to the animal rights organization will be used as props in presentations to educate students.

New Mariah voice message
Hello-oo. Yeah just had to call you 'cause I just... had a quite an amazing night at the RMA's and I wanted to thank you guys so much for everything every single... person out there who's been here for me from the beginning everybody who's you know... just made this the most incredible year of my life and... hum... you know what?  For every single.. you know... time that we thought "yeah it was bleak and whatever" it's all worth it 'cause, 'cause this has been amazing and I really can never ever ever thank you enough and I maybe sound boring and dramatic or whatever but I... I don't have my cheerleading squad with me, so it's a little bleak but... hum.. basically, I'm just laying in bed getting ready to go to sleep and hum... the night wouldn't have been complete if I didn't call in and just say thanks, so Happy Holidays, I'll be calling you soon with a much more festive message but I just want to say that I thank you and I love you so much... You couldn't help it huh Tommy? Guys,  notice the term "gentleman" used by the salesperson
Salespeople in a high-end sporting shop in Aspen, Colo., were overheard talking about how sweet Renee Zellweger was compared to Mariah Carey.
"She's always with a huge entourage. ... She demands the store be shut down for her", they griped.
Then an older gentleman purchasing an orange ski jacket unexpectedly chimed in with, "Yeah ... that girl will really make your head spin!"
One staffer did a double take and recognized the man as Carey's ex, Tommy Mottola.

AP Music Writer Picks Top 10 Albums
Here are the albums that helped wear out the iPod battery of AP Music Writer Nekesa Mumbi Moody in 2005.
1. "The Emancipation of Mimi," Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey: It‘s time for all the critics who declared Carey‘s career all but dead to eat some humble pie — so give me the first helping. Carey — who‘s biggest successes in her post-"Glitter" career had been crooning out breathy hooks on rap records — produced perhaps the best album of her 16-year career with "Mimi," an uncompromising, classic R&B album. Though it had several high-profile cameos from the likes of Snoop Dogg and Nelly, the most riveting components of "Mimi" were its stellar songwriting and Carey‘s luscious voice.

Kanye already look for excuses, just in case he doesn't win.... .  C'mon Kanye, be fair, may the best win....
Kanye backs down ever so slightly
In proclaiming himself album winner West Before the Grammy nominations were even announced, Kanye West went ahead and declared himself winner of the album of the year. Now, he's backing down. But only a little bit. "I actually haven't listened to Paul McCartney's album, I won't lie to you about that," he told MTV News. "I'm going to check it out. I'm going to make sure I feel like I should win."
In a backstage rant earlier this month, West predicted that politics would keep him from walking away with the Grammy for his album "Late Registration," saying it would be backlash for his public criticism of President Bush.
"If I don't win album of the year, I'm going to really have a problem with that," he said. "I don't want to hear all that politically correct stuff. You put the camera in front of me, I'm going to tell you like it is."
West considers his album worlds better than the other nominees', including Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi"; Gwen Stefani's "Love.Angel.Music.Baby"; U2's "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb"; and McCartney's "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard."

"Get Your Number" is doing great in Belgium
Even if the sales are not that great (but after 6 weeks, still #37 in the Dutch speaking part and #34 in the French speaking part of Belgium), the track is doing great in the airplay charts.
Why are the sales not that good?  Well, we only had the 2 track cardboard sleeve single at the really expensive price of 4 Euro (about $5 US), young people don't want to pay so much for 2 tracks, we all know what they do, even if it's illegal and very irresponsible if you know the latest plans and efforts the IFPI and the Belgian Internet Police put to stop piracy. Also, absolutely no promotion.
Anywayz... The track is doing great in airplay, especially in the French speaking part of Belgium.
Belgian fans, keep requesting "Get Your Number", especially in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium where the track is not that great in the airplay charts due to lack of request.

eBay auction.... how disgusting is this
" Mariah Carey Signed Copy of Mimi CD @ HMV Oxford Street
The autograph reads: 'Biggest Fan,' then she has signed it: "Mariah Carey." When I stood in-front of her I asked her if she could write "Biggest Fan" next to her signature, since as I have been a fan for such a long time. Her bodyguard told her "Do Not sign for anyone with a message, there's not enough time" but Mariah was so sweet and she quickly added "biggest fan" next to her name for me."
Click here to read the auction and I really hope no one never bids on such disgusting practices, Mariah took time to write the requested message and that "biggest fan" simply sells it, that's disgusting.

The eager diva
By Andrew Edgecliffe-Johnson
Two sips into my glass of pink Cristal and I am beginning to worry that this may not work. I have come to Mariah Carey’s suite in Claridge’s to talk business. So far I have mostly got diva.

Carey has sold over 150m albums – more than anyone but Elvis and the Beatles. The idea was to find out what commercial lessons someone who has made an estimated $300m fortune from her five-octave voice could offer readers of the FT.

I have come to her London hotel to find out how an asset that had been so expensively written off could become so valuable again. This year, she has staged one of the most remarkable brand comebacks in marketing history. Her last album, The Emancipation of Mimi, has already sold 7.2m copies, spawning a series of chart-topping singles and earning her armfuls of industry awards, culminating in eight Grammy nominations this month

I am kept waiting for 45 minutes, hovering in a low-lit bedroom scattered with Jimmy Choo shopping bags and abandoned room service trolleys. There are occasional bursts of laughter from next door and an aide darts in and out, ferrying an unexplained pack of Wet Ones Family Wipes.

Finally, I am admitted and find Carey curled in a corner of the couch, playing with her hair, lit only by a lamp on the other side of the room. An iPod is playing through speakers on the mantelpiece.

Carey is wearing brown suede boots over designer jeans, a gauzy blouse over a boob tube and a string of beads. I am the man from the FT and am wearing a grey suit, white shirt and a tie.

“I must warn you I failed math in 8th grade,” she jokes as the champagne is poured, “So if we’re going to deal with long division you’re in the wrong place.”

Jamie Foxx about Mariah
Have you ever serenaded the ladies?
I've serenaded a couple of girls. Some of them worked out and some didn't.
Would you please elaborate on one that didn't?
I was in college, and I serenaded a babe to her face. I went over there and tried to get my thing on. I sang the James Ingram song "She Loves Me" to her face, trying to get it on. She's like, "That's nice, OK, I'm out." It didn't work out, but I was hot. I still do it now if I get the urge to. If I catch Halle Berry or Mariah Carey, I'll put my bid in.
Do you really think Mariah is hot?
You know what makes her hot? She's hot! Selling records and doin' her thing -- she's got her swagger back.

The diva tour . . .
Pop music preener Mariah Carey had a tough time getting out of London's Heathrow Airport last week.
Not only did airport security scold the diva for walking barefoot through a departure gate (because her $$$$ Jimmy Choo shoes hurt her feet), but the Brit press claims Carey was told she was bringing along too many Louis Vuitton trunks, which had to be moved to another flight.
The Cake tour . . .
WUDA CEO Gilles Ollevier had a tough time getting out of London's Eurostar departure center last week.
Not only did Eurostar's security scold Cake for walking on his socks through a departure gate (because his shoes hurt his feet), but the Brit press claims Cake was told he was bringing along too many luggages, a big poster, vinyls, new clothes, a lot of nice memories and his infamous umbrella

Jermaine Dupri Proves To Be Unforgettable With Don't Forget About Us
Another Dupri/Carey Collaboration Reaches Top of Charts
After having just received four Grammy Award nominations, the prestigious music industry honors taking place on February 8th, super producer/songwriter and Virgin Records' Urban Music President, Jermaine "JD" Dupri, has claimed his 19th #1 R&B hit in 15 years, with songstress Mariah Carey's "Don't Forget About Us."  The smash single reached #1 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop chart this week and marks the fifth #1 of her career, tying Monica's record for the most chart toppers in this
format.
JD's work on Carey's monster success, The Emancipation of Mimi, has helped make it one of the biggest victories of Carey's career and one of the most talked about comebacks of all time.  She and Dupri will vie for Grammys in the
Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best R&B Song at this year's 48th Annual awards.  Carey also received nominations in four other categories for the classic album.
Earlier this year, Dupri became one of only a few producers to garner four positions in the Top 10 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart at one time (a feat accomplished by only two other producers) and the top three spots on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts with "We Belong Together" and "Shake It Off" by Carey and "Like You (Bow Wow & Ciara)" and "Let Me Hold You (Bow Wow featuring Omarion)," songs he produced and co-penned.  With "We Belong Together" and "Shake It Off", he and Carey became the first artists since The Beatles to hold the top two spots at the same time.
Widely known and respected for his hit making work with artists including Carey, Bow Wow, Usher, Alicia Keys, TLC, Da Brat, and Anthony Hamilton, Dupri got his start in the music business at the tender young age of 14.  At 19, he
founded So So Def and captured worldwide attention with the crossover success of Kris Kross.  He has received numerous awards and accolades from his peers including several Grammy nominations and ASCAP's prestigious Golden Note and Songwriter of the Year awards.
As the recently named President of Urban Music at Virgin Records, Dupri helped the label earn it's first #1 R&B/Hip-Hop hit in years, with Dem Franchize Boyz' sizzler, "I Think They Like Me" from the So So Def compilation, Jermaine Dupri Presents ... Young, Fly and Flashy Vol. 1.
Currently he's busy completing albums for one of his newest proteges, crooner Johnta Austin, and pop icon, Janet Jackson.

Jasmine's juice
By Jasmine Dotiwala
‘I took Mariah to my house, cooked and watched Best of the Source Awards’

Well, where do I begin? My girl Mariah Carey came, sang and conquered the planet again in 2005 (after a hiatus of a couple of years) with the comeback of the century! I can’t even think of another artist who was as colossally huge as Mariah for the first decade of her career, broke titanic records for female artists then had a return which saw her break her own record and rule supreme again. Can you deny her glory any longer, haters?
In fact, I haven’t heard any haters at all recently. I mean, what are you gonna hate on? The girl looks great, sounds great and is great. Great!

This past week, MC got her London party started with an event at London’s posh members club Home House, to which her record label Island Def Jam/ Universal invited around 30 musical VIPs from the industry. Universal music’s Robert Pascoe sent out stylish platinum invites the day before, so we were all amped with excitement at watching MC receive her awards with our pink champagne and posh nibbles. It was only when we arrived we realised it was us who were accepting awards!

I was one of a group of folk that included writers, radio DJs and TV types who have supported MC this year. We were all handed a personalised platinum plaque thanking us for our support. Remember I made her number-one rating Making of the Video for Get Your Number on MTV this year! Among the winners were DJs Steve Sutherland from Galaxy, George Kaye from Choice FM, Trevor Nelson from Radio One, a couple of tabloid writers and me!
Even though we were in the company of Universal music tycoons and music moguls like the infamous Benny Medina, me and my girls added some flavour to the moment by whooping and hollering our appreciation during the ceremony
Straight afterwards we retired to Claridges and MC’s suite to get ready for our night out. I was intending to take her to Kaberat as my boy DJ Jarren C was playing and I knew she’d love his throwdown. Alas, a minor debacle hit the fan and we ended up not getting there at all.

No big deal you may think, but it is when I’ve personally requested that the club ensures that no-one smokes ‘cos MC doesn’t do smoky clubs (remember clubs in New York are all smoke free and MC has to protect her vocal chords). After much apologising I think Jarren forgave me.

On Saturday, after MC finished all her press work, she popped over to mine as I had a pre-arranged dinner party for old friends that night. I had promised MC I’d ensure she returned to her hotel in good time but you know us once we start hanging out! We had a delicious three-course meal prepared by my delicate hands then we all caught up on life, love and fun, before watching my Best of The Source Awards DVD. We were all standing around rapping along to the Bad Boy family and Biggie Small’s amazing historical performance.

On Monday night MC invited me to join her at George Michael’s documentary movie premiere but then ended up missing it as her plane was taking off an hour later!

Oh dear.....
Snapper took pictures of a "wrong" Mark
With the (now denied) rumors of Mariah being engaged with Mark Sudack, one of New York's sharpest snappers on the celeb circuit took a photo of three guys at a party and identified one of them as Mark.  He sold the picture to the New York Daily News and they published it.  They then saw it was a mistake, the guys were misidentified and they needed to remove it and post a correction.

Poor Mariah (part 2)
Earlier today, I posted the link to listen to the "performances" of the 2 finalists of the "Star Academy" which Mariah will attend this Friday.  Now, the guy has been cut off from the performance ('cause it was really too bad) and the girl needs to work a lot to be able to sing "It's Like That" in an acceptable way.  Click here to see her rehearse, again I'm sorry for the "Star Academy" fans, but the girl will need to work a lot and I mean A LOT.

Mikey Jukes from the well known Tupac site "ThugLifeArmy" wrote the following:
Grammy Award Subliminals
Have you noticed that Mariah Carey’s face is everywhere the word “Grammy” shows up? I feel like I’m getting some subliminal messages indicating maybe the media wants Mariah to win big.
If you look in most search engines and type her name in, she appears to be very dominant. For example, go to news search engines and type in: Grammy, Grammy Nominations, Grammy Awards, Kanye West, John Legend and Mariah Carey. You will find out who has the most dominant news stories under each keyword. Here is a point to look out for, when the 3 top names are mentioned together (West, Legend, Carey); it appears Mariah’s name is being placed first in the most news articles.
I believe small things like this positively cause people to think of Mariah first when it comes to the Grammy Awards. So if she doesn’t win Album of the Year, everyone is going to feel something went wrong, except Kanye West of course. Mark my words; Kanye West is going to blow a gasket if Mariah Carey sweeps the Grammys. For some reason, I think the media would enjoy seeing that play out.
I hope he doesn’t, because predictable behavior in black people is a popular belief among other races. For example, on the first couple of days at a job with prejudice co-workers, I have encountered people who will make a sly subliminal racial remark to me, in hopes that I will turn into “angry black man.” You may wonder why people would do such a thing. Here’s why, just so they can say, “see I told you so.” So my advice to brother Kanye and other people, who broadcast how they will react if things don’t work in their favor, is to keep your cool, regardless of how things play out. From the looks of it, the media would like to see the tide turn toward “Mimi.”
I could be wrong, maybe in a few days Kanye’s publicist will get busy and tell Kanye to save some kids from a burning building. Or maybe the media will read this article and start being more mindful of how they display small details and consistencies, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Mariah under the mistletoe
Yesterday`s Sunday Mirror M Celebs Magazine featured an adorable photo of Mariah and Jack on the front cover. Apparently Mariah was so pleased with the shoot, conducted by celebrity photographer Jason Fraser, that she used one of them for the cover of her Christmas card this year!
Inside the magazine Mariah gave a one page interview in which she "revealed" that Jack is the person she'd most like to kiss under the mistletoe.
Mariah also talked about how much she loves Christmas and detailed some of the activities she enjoys on her annual trip to Aspen:
I make the biggest deal ever out of the holiday season. Me and my friends-well, I call them my extended family-we go to Aspen every year. It`s a ski resort, and while it`s a little celeby and commercial, it`s just this gorgeous picturesque village. Well apart from everything int he boutiques is like, $10,000.
We absolutely go to town. We have a tree set up, and we decorate it, with butterflies of course, and we drink hot cocoa with butterscotch schnapps and then we get on a two-horse open-sleigh ride. And I know Jack will have a good time because he loves the snow. He goes bounding off into it- this little white dog disappears, and then you see his nose poling out. He gets so excited.
This year I`m going to try snowboarding. For the last six yars I`ve been trying to learn, but it just isn`t happening. I like to slepp until 3pm when I`m on my holidays, and the ski lift closes at 4pm. So usually I get dressed up in a festive ensemble-either a Chanel, Dior or Lagerfield ski oitift, and then I go and I go shopping. We also go tubing, which is where you go downhill on race tracks on a plastic shed. It`s great, and you can go really fast, although it depends on my weight how fast I can get down that hill.
I give thanks every year, whether it`s an incredible year like this one, or a really bad one. I`ve had a great year this year and no mistake, but I never forget the real meaning of Christmas, which is the birth of Jesus Christ. First and foremost it`s about celebrating that incredible gift. We go to the midnight candlelight church sefvice and we read from the Bible, usually something from Luke or Matthew.
I never get the chance to cook so my friends are like "Mimi`s in the kitchen, it must be Christmas." I do this white clam linguine that was my father`s recipe-so it`s my favourite thing. I also fo a nice tomato sauce, and sometimes we make gingerbread men.
Let`s face it I don't own that many clothes that cover me up so once a year I can really go for it! Usuually I try to do a Christmas Eve number in red, maybe cashmere. And on Christmas morning, I wear my Frosty the Snowman nighty and thermal long johns-I`ve got to look good for when Santa Claus pays a visit.
And I love getting gifts for people. When I was growing up we didn`t have much money, but my Mom always tried to make it special by wrapping up little things. If friends bring kids, or my nephew and niece come, I make sure there is plenty of stuff for them to unwrap. We all love expensive gifts- I`m goign to say I don`t want tons of diamonds but it really is the thought that goes into it.  The other day, I had cold, so my brother sent me a pyramid of balloons-just to make me laugh. And last week, my friends threw me a Hello Kitty party, it was a real four-year-old moment. So in Aspen this year, it`s going to be 12-year-old girl stuff, but it`s going to make me so happy.

Leee John's happy about "Get Your Number"
Among the artists to be influenced by ex-Imagination frontman Leee John's work is Mariah Carey who sampled Imagination’s 1982 hit "Just an Illusion" in her hit "Get Your Number".
“My past and present are running at a parallel now, which I find amazing,” commented Leee.

Mariah Carey Requests The Company of Sylvia Patterson To Celebrate The Amazing Success of The Emancipation Of Mimi And A Record Breaking 2005
So bulged last week’s silver-embossed invitation, biked at sizeable expense by the PR company which “looks after” the biggest-selling female recording artist in phonographic history. Just in case you thought painting the tiles in the bathroom was a more satisfying option come the afternoon in question, a subsequent call arrived from her excitable PR.
“Darling!” she serenaded, being Mariah Carey’s PR, “there will be a special surprise just for you. Mariah personally wants to thank you … so you must turn up!” The tiles could probably wait. Somewhere across London, personnel from radio and television were also polishing their party shoes, the lure of the “special surprise just for you” too much to resist, because no matter the years at the showbiz coalface, no matter the cynic within who will be astounded if the preposterous yodeller even turns up, she just might present us with a cheque for £10,000 each for reinstating, in our ways – through favourable interviews, relentless radio and MTV “exclusives” – her hitherto faltering position as the world’s No. 1 R&B lungsmith.
And if the £10,000 isn’t forthcoming, a free glass, surely, of the world’s most expensively bubbly bubbly. As Mariah’s PR fully understands, when it comes to shallow flattery, there’s none more susceptible than the tarts of the fickle media. Loitering inside a small, chandeliered room in Home House, a swish Mayfair drinkerie also favoured by Madonna, there were 30 members of the media – some of whom, gratifyingly, were worse than me. The editor of Glamour magazine was sufficiently moved to leave her baby at home in the afternoon, for the first time since her birth five months previously.
“I couldn’t resist it!” she chirped, while the man from Q magazine was considerably worse than her. “I turned up half an hour early,” he frothed, “because I’ve been told myself and Mariah are going to have a drink. Together! Just me and her!” Several free glasses of bubbliest bubbly were duly quaffed as Mariah became 90 minutes late “on her way from Claridges”.
There was a man here who appeared to have a coat hanger still in his jumper. On closer inspection, he had a wooden arm, an exquisitely carved wooden hand dangling below his sleeve. He was, it turned out, a DJ called Semtex who DJs with his nose. Knowing such a man existed made the afternoon worth it already.
Suddenly, with the flourish of a fluorescent pink diamante microphone, Mariah Carey arrived – teetering into the room, all buoyant bosoms and exploding cheeks – pulled the rip-cord on the wall behind her and unveiled our “special surprise just for you”. Gold discs!? But no … they were double platinum discs! The kind you only ever see in shady Big Wig offices and Barry Manilow’s shed. One each, featuring a wind-blown vision of the golden transvestite herself, with our individual names on, “to recognise sales in the United Kingdom in excess of 600,000 copies” which by Mariah’s standards – 160 million albums sold in 15 years – is something of a toddler’s handful. Still, one by one, we were called. “Thank you so much…” she cooed, as our discs were presented, and you marvelled at how this sort of thing just does not happen when you talk to the blokes from the Kaiser Chiefs. And then we bolted for the bar, clutching our swag like kids on Christmas morning knowing this had never happened before and will surely never happen again, knowing – like showbiz itself – it means both absolutely nothing and everything which makes life hysterically, stupidly, worth living.
She’s going, of course, on to the bathroom wall, the only fitting place for the patron saint of yodelling in a tiled environment, a woman about whom, until this year, I have written some of the most disparaging remarks ever mustered in the public domain, seeing as she used to be – the most insufferably irksome warbler in the history of musical entertainment.
This year, she was deemed by many an agreeable mentalist (and had made a good album), a high-camp, loony-tune cartoon who laughed louder than you did when discussing her chauffeur-driven dog. It’s testament to what Mariah calls “the illusion of showbiz”, that you can tell the world she still “sings like a whale” and she’ll present you with a goddam gift.
On our double platinum discs, there’s a tiny Union Jack which means Mariah Carey, right now, is somewhere on Earth, in every country in Europe, all over Asia, Australia, Japan and the USA, personally thanking a bunch of strangers she met for a number of seconds (and even more she’d never met) until she has personally thanked someone for every one of this year’s seven million albums sold. Bless. Like her life, and her voice, it’s an extravagant madness you can only applaud.
Loitering round her Bel Air homestead this summer – less a house, more The Embassy of Mariah Carey, a glass-fronted, white-stoned, presidential mansion – I’d wondered if she could actually, truly yodel. Proper, Austrian, up-among-the-goatherds yodelling. “I don’t think so,” she decided, but tried for the first time ever.
“Yodel-ay-hee!” she yodelled, beautifully, “yodel-ay-hee-hooo! Yodel-ay-hee-yodel-ay-heee! Is that it!? Yes!” Tragically, this seismic event in musical history happened with the tape-recorder switched off. “No I will not do it on tape,” she guffawed, “it’ll end up on the friggin’ internet!” Curses, there goes the pension … Still, today, there’s a glimmeringly gay, wonkily painted bathroom wall which will forever be, as Mariah herself would say, “fabulous, darling”.

Mariah denied it in the Capital FM interview, now Benny Medina denies it too
Busybodies at Tuesday's Billboard Music Awards made much of a ring that Mariah Carey was wearing on the finger next to her left pinky. Speculation was that it came from Mark Sudack, her down-low boyfriend.
Sudack, 28, got to know Carey (who was nominated for eight Grammys) when he was working with her Monarc Records partner, Jerry Blair. After Blair split, Sudack made himself useful, first as a "house photographer," then as part of her "management team."
Whatever he's doing for her, Mariah, 34, finds him indispensable, though a friend says, "She won't formally acknowledge he's her boyfriend." Carey's manager, Benny Medina, called him a "valuable associate," but assured us, "They're definitely not engaged."

3... 2... 1... MIMI!
Mariah performing in Times Square
In a conference call promoting the forthcoming edition of Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2006, cohost Ryan Seacrest told TVGuide.com that Mariah Carey, she of the eight Grammy nods, will be on hand to usher in 2006. "We've added some great things [to the telecast], including a live performance by Mariah Carey in Times Square," Seacrest revealed. "This is the first time in the history of Dick's show that they've done a live performance there, leading up to the ball-drop. She will be right there in the middle of all the action." By action, he means "drunken tourists engaged in fistfights."

First Mimi was emancipated; now Mariah Carey is being celebrated.
Carey, who just a couple of years ago was considered a dimming star, was reaffirmed as one of music's brightest Thursday as she was nominated for eight Grammy awards, including album of the year for ''The Emancipation of Mimi.''
Critics and fans have focused on Carey's amazing career turnaround, but she doesn't like to call it a comeback. Instead, the 35-year-old diva, who received her only Grammys in 1991 for best new artist and best pop vocal performance, sees her newfound success as a validation of the kind of music she's wanted to do all along.
''A lot of times in my career, I was never allowed to release my favorite songs as the singles,'' Carey told The Associated Press after the nominations. ''This is like an album of my favorite songs, and so that's what feels great, because as an artist, you want people to hear your best work.''

Tidbits from the Record Academy Honors
Deniece attended Recording Academy Honors at Gotham Hall in New York last night and met Mariah.  Mariah couldn't really eat during the dinner 'cause many of the people there wanted pictures and autographs, but she didn't mind.  There was a kind of tribute and Karen Clark Sheard sang her rendition of "Fly like a bird" beautifully, Mariah was moved to tears. She ran up to Karen afterwards and gave her a big hug.  Then Ann Nesby went onstage to sing "One Sweet Day" with Joe. That was awesome too. Joe also sang "Vision of Love" which was great. Then they showed a video spanning Mariah's career.

Back Atop the Charts, Her Way
Mariah Carey became the butt of jokes after she was dropped by her label in 2002. 'Mimi' is emancipated now, and a Grammy nod is possible.
The photographers were screaming for Mariah Carey on Tuesday night the way they used to. They jostled to catch her eye backstage at the Billboard Music Awards, and she vamped and smiled while holding a metal bouquet — she had won five awards, more than any other artist, and she was clearly thrilled.
Then she looked down at her wrists.
The weight of the trophies had left red lines up and down her inner forearms. Later, away from the crowd, in her suite atop the MGM Grand Hotel, she rubbed her arms at the memory.
"I can't give them anything to use against me," she said. "Someone, somewhere might see marks on my arms and the next day the world hears that I tried to kill myself or that I'm getting tied up. That is how it is for me now."
It is a wonderful and scary time to be Mariah Carey. While the Billboard awards are driven by sales, today, when the nominations are announced for the 48th annual Grammy Awards, the quality of her work will be on the line. If Carey, 35, picks up major nominations, it will be an acknowledgment of a career comeback that rivals any in pop music history.
She calls her recent run a "beautiful dream," but she's also barely removed from a career nightmare.
Almost four years ago, EMI's Virgin Records famously fired Carey and paid a reported $28 million to do it. And at the time, it seemed like a good deal. Carey had become famous for bizarre public behavior and sinking album sales, and for starring in one of the year's most ridiculed films, "Glitter."
If there was any chance to escape the aura of disaster surrounding her, it ended when the "Glitter" soundtrack album hit stores on Sept. 11, 2001. Carey's personal collapse was such a matter of public jeering that the rapper Eminem, with whom she had a brief fling, chose to begin his arena concerts by piping in snippets of tearful phone messages she had left begging him to return her calls.
Then there were whispers of a nervous breakdown and suicide attempt.
"I never tried to kill myself; that is a lie," she said. "I'm too afraid of God to do that. I'm a spiritual person. The songs I write, the messages in them — how could I turn around and try to take my life? And by slashing my wrists? Please. I would never give up on life."
She has the most played song of the year, "We Belong Together," and the second-bestselling CD, "The Emancipation of Mimi," a reference to her new sense of freedom and the nickname her friends still use for her. At midyear, she became the first act since the Beatles to have the No. 1 and No. 2 songs on American radio in the same week. In recent weeks, she circled the globe — London, Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas — to collect awards and a measure of satisfaction.
"I'm not going to miss a moment of this," she said as she munched a late dinner that would make a starlet waif shudder: French fries and chicken strips, washed down with a flute of Cristal Champagne. "A celebratory splash," she said. "I have a lot to celebrate."
Carey's comeback arc can be viewed as a tale of personal redemption or as another lesson in the mercurial nature of the music business. There have been many pop comebacks before, but Carey's is most comparable to Frank Sinatra's tumble to the career carpet in the late 1940s and his mid-1950s return to grace. Like Carey, Sinatra's fall was met with glee in many quarters, and he was written off despite his world-famous voice.
"Like Sinatra, Mariah has a voice for the ages," said L.A. Reid, chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group, which includes Island Records, where Carey's comeback has taken place. "I never doubted that she would have success again. With that instrument, it's just a matter of getting the right music and the right moment."
Reid's longshot bet on Carey was shared by his corporate boss, Doug Morris, chairman of Universal Music Group. Her CD has been a commercial sensation for Universal Music, selling 4.2 million copies in the U.S. since its release in April, and tour plans are forming for next year.
According to the Recording Industry Assn. of America, since her debut album in 1990, more than 150 million Carey albums have shipped.
Her music career began with a demo album that caught the ear of Tommy Mottola, then chief of Sony Music Entertainment. He signed her to Sony's Columbia Records, where she became noticed immediately for her extraordinary vocal range. In 1990, at the 33rd annual Grammy Awards, Carey won two Grammys, including best new artist. With 16 No. 1 hits, she has a record that trails only Elvis Presley and the Beatles.
She's had a writing hand in much of her music, including a co-writing credit on every song on "Emancipation." Still, she says, "Most people don't even know I write songs."
Despite her commercial triumphs, she has found peer recognition hard to recapture — since that initial Grammy splash, she's not won another.
One reason for the chilly shoulder may have been Carey's reputation as a kept canary. She found success under the wing of Mottola, who shaped her as a singer similar to Celine Dion, known for epic material and melodramatic sweep. (Carey and Mottola ended their five-year marriage in an acrimonious and public divorce in 1998 that she finds difficult to discuss.)
Carey says that during the years with Mottola she longed to act on her creative impulses toward soul and hip-hop music. It wasn't an option those around her wanted to explore. Instead, she says, she was counseled to not only bury any hip-hop sound but to also avoid discussion of her African American roots.
Even in the afterglow of this year and this night, those troubles seem to haunt her. Carey plopped down on the couch in her 61st-floor suite, pulled off her sparkly heels and grew reflective. Playing on her iPod in the corner was the Aretha Franklin music that she grew up loving.
"When I was a kid I felt like a misfit and an outcast because of my [biracial] heritage and the way people made me feel about it," the native New Yorker said, referring to the days when she could walk on neither side of her family and feel completely comfortable. "In my music — in the days when I was being told what to do, if you know what I mean — I was told to push all of that even further down, and it tore me up."
Now that sound is anything but hidden. The new album's dance-floor slink and urban inflections speak to her true music heart, she says. Unlike the days when she sang huge, soaring ballads, the new album finds its core in songs of resilience — the hit "Shake It Off," for one, has her shedding a bad-news lover.
But Carey's return took more than her own voice. She also needed a new manager and found one in Benny Medina. He had worked with Jennifer Lopez and Brandy and found success with both, but he also saw each of those relationships end in legal squabbles. Medina was wary of Carey. He had been watching TV like everyone else.
"I didn't know what to think. But she was smart: She invited me to a show to hear her sing — the concert was in Las Vegas — and I was amazed by watching her perform," he said. "I also had plenty of ideas about different ways to do things. If you have Billie Holiday, you don't need to put on a Cher show."
She also found a producer in Jermaine Dupri, who wanted to bring her studio work closer to the street. Hers is a hybrid sound that melds R&B melody with hip-hop breakbeat and pairs smoky singers with rap stars. Now Carey's CD, in addition to being one of the year's biggest hits and her "declaration of independence," represents the dominant trend in R&B music today.
"Mariah helped invent this sound and doesn't get enough credit for it," said Dupri, who produced "Shake It Off" and "We Belong Together," as well as other hits off the new Carey CD. "She doesn't sound like anyone else. Now when you hear a song, it's a Mariah song, and that's hard to do these days."
Dupri has an interesting vantage point on Carey's return to form. As a producer and an urban music executive at Virgin, he has watched her story line from two very different sides.
"I'm part of both worlds, and it's strange," Dupri said. "I'm a president at Virgin, where they spent this huge amount of money to get Mariah out of the building, and now to see what's happened … every time those songs come on, people at Virgin wince — and those songs come on a lot."
The most interesting facet of Carey's comeback may have presented itself to Reid in April, when he visited a record store in New Jersey and casually asked a clerk how the newly arrived Carey album was selling. The answer grabbed his attention. The clerk told him that the register had been busy ringing up the middle-school set.
"I never expected her to get new fans with this album; I didn't see that coming," he said. "The people buying this album are 11- and 12- and 13- and 14-year-old girls. I thought it would be like when Cher came back — the old fans would come back and embrace her. But here, Mariah's getting old fans and new ones too, and that has made this huge."
With that in mind, Carey has added record-store autograph sessions to her busy schedule. One of those in Hollywood last month shut down traffic, as the once and future diva visited the Virgin Megastore to autograph copies of "Emancipation." Later, she recounted how many of the youngest fans, some of whom had waited in line for 27 hours, told her that her new songs had helped them deal with broken hearts and broken homes.
"I've had people tell me that these songs make them not want to kill themselves. Can you imagine how happy that makes me?"
She also had someone tell her the other day that she's the last true diva.
"I took that as a huge compliment," said Carey, who went on to explain the fine art of ordering caviar in Monaco. ("You ask for caviar and then you pause [she pauses] and say 'be-luuu-ga.' ") She went on to say, "I have fun with the diva stuff because I don't take myself seriously."
During the Billboard show, she was scampering around backstage from interview to interview, in a dress that was as short as possible. "I don't have to sit down — I cannot sit down in this dress," she said.
Carey was surrounded by a ghetto-fabulous equivalent of a NASCAR pit crew: One person held a fan to cool her, a makeup artist dabbed at her cheeks, another stylist primped her amber-colored locks and another, without ceremony, tugged the back of her dress to keep it ready for prime time.
Her style has gotten increasingly sexually provocative after the Mottola years, which served up a more elegant, polished Carey. At the American Music Awards last month, Carey opened the show — barely. Arriving late, she was hurried to the stage as her handlers finished sewing her skimpy dress on. Carey admits she was worried that she was showing the nation a bit more than she planned.
Yet for all the talk of how scattered or strange or diva-like she had become, the Mariah Carey of this week was a model of serenity, whether on stage thanking the television audience or alone in her suite. If there's a dominating cultural current in the media of 2005, it's the nonstop delivery and dissection of celebrities. Few stars have felt that scalpel as cruelly as Carey.
"I never really felt famous until my fame was used against me," she said. "I never felt I was different than anybody else until I couldn't get away from anybody."

Carey, West Among Likely Grammy Nominees
"I think Mariah Carey, Gwen Stefani and Kanye West are going to be going at it for who has the most awards," says Steve Stoute, a former music industry executive who has remained tapped into the scene through his company Translations, which links top music superstars with commercial products. "They have songs that have song-of-the-year potential on their albums."
Carey, he feels, is likely to be chief among the group. Her career had been languishing in recent years, and some industry insiders doubted whether the multi-octave singer could return to her multiplatinum ways after a series of debacles, including a breakdown and being bought out of her record contract with Virgin Records.
"The Emancipation of Mimi" proved the skeptics wrong, however. Not only did it sell more than 4 million copies, making it the No. 2 best-selling album of the year, it also spawned one of the year's most popular songs, the torch ballad "We Belong Together."
"I think Mariah Carey has a really big chance of making a really big statement," said Stoute. "I think Mariah Carey is the big winner."
Carey is expected to be nominated in the top categories, including album of the year and perhaps song and record of the year for "We Belong Together."

Mariah at Madison Square Garden today
Mariah speaks to children at Madison Square Garden where 'Peter Pan is being staged in New York, Wednesday, Dec 7, 2005. Children from the Fresh Air Fund and winners selected by radio station WKTU were treated to a special holiday reading of ' Peter Pan' by Carey. Mariah, who had a comeback year, is one of many artists who made some memorable music this year. So its unlikely that one name will dominate this year's Grammy nominations, which are to be announced in New York on Thursday morning. She'll also be one of the recording stars scheduled to read the nominations.
