"Say Something" next single????
After last weeks announcement: "Fly Like A Bird" next single?, it seems now that "Say Something" could be the next one.
FMQB posted a "Say Something" radio add for April the 10th. in the US.
According to x-ander on Mariah Style's forum, yesterday MTV France said that Mariah will shoot a video with Snoop and Pharrell in Paris.
I really don't know what happens, I wouldn't believe MTV France until I see it myself, 'cause last time I saw a news on their channel, they were happy Mariah had a new album since Glitter, ok.... where was Charmbracelet?  Whatever...
As she said herself, Mariah never really felt "Say Something", maybe it has grown on her.
Did Jay-Z and L.A. Reid  finally won the battle?   He wants that track since day 1, even before "It's Like That"..... Wait and see....

Worlwide press (especially the US, UK and France) makes fun of Mariah
Of course we knew it, several stupid columnists need to make fun of Mariah's return to the big screen.  Some people will never learn you don't give up, and certainly not when you're Mariah.  Let the girl do what she likes, it's her right!!!!!!!
And for my part, even if you don't care Media people, I'm VERY happy, and know what.......

Mariah Carey's level-headed view about having kids
I still don't know if I want to have children. If that's in the cards for me ... it's not if I 'want' to have children. I feel like being a celebrity and having kids is a huge responsibility. I would want to make sure I was fully prepared to handle what would happen to those kids when they have to deal with the baggage of having a famous parent."
That's Mariah Carey with Barbara Walters. You'll see this interview tomorrow on Barbara's pre-Oscar special (very "pre" -- this is the first time the show has not aired on Oscar night itself, which is Sunday).
As for Mariah's remarks on having kids -- brava! Famous or not, so many people decide to have children for all the wrong reasons; they raise unhappy children. Mariah seems reasonably content with her fame, fans, work. Mariah knows the damage of an insecure home environment. That she sees clearly she might not be mature or unselfish enough to raise her own kids, is a testament to real maturity.

Lee Daniels about Mariah Carey and "Tennessee"
"Monster's Ball" producer Lee Daniels says Mariah Carey's musical comeback inspired him to cast her in the lead of his indie drama, "Tennessee."
Daniels told Daily Variety he was impressed with Carey's Grammy Award-winning and best-selling 2005 album "The Emancipation of Mimi" as well as her work in the 2002 film, "Wisegirls."
Her 2001 film flop, "Glitter," had no effect on the decision, he said.
"I never saw 'Glitter,' but I liked her work in the other film. Because this character is interracial and struggles with all sorts of issues because of that, I thought she was perfect," Daniels told Variety.

Mariah IS featured in the March issue of Playboy
Like I reported on February the 7th., Mariah is featured in Playboy's 25 Sexiest Celebrities in the March issue of the magazine.  Here's what it says to introduce the Playboy's 25 Sexiest Celebrities:
"When you turn on your TV, you see them.  When the lights go out in the theater and the movie begins, there they are again.  You see them on your computer screen when you're online and on the inside of your eyelids when you dream.  Physical beauty is skin deep, but the kind of sexiness these women exude comes from somewhere else.  It's a confidence, a talent, a curiosity.  The secret to their success lies in part in there ability to move both men and women viscerally, to stir us.  These eight pages celebrate our picks for the sexiest female celebrities."
The picture they used for Mariah is one from the FHM photoshoot.
Oh, by the way, Miss March 2006 lists Mariah among her 5 best singers in the world , huh, yeah, I looked all the pages of the magazine, just to see if Mariah was mentioned somewhere else .

Mariah to Star in "Tennessee"
Carey tunes up indie pic, Grammy-winning diva heads to 'Tennessee'
Mariah Carey will star in Tennessee, an independent drama to be directed by Aaron Woodley (Rhinoceros Eyes) from a script by Russell Schaumberg, reports Variety. The film will be produced by Lee Daniels (Monster's Ball) and shoots in New Mexico and Tennessee this spring.
Carey plays a waitress who sets off with two brothers to find their estranged father. Their goal: Get dad involved in saving their younger brother, who has leukemia.
While Carey's movie resume is overshadowed by the disappointing 2001 film Glitter, Daniels got the idea to cast her after watching her Grammy-winning album "The Emancipation of Mimi" become the biggest selling disc of 2005 and viewing her work in 2002's WiseGirls.

Heroes note: I did a few research, "Tennessee" is scheduled to be shot or at least partially in March 2006.  Other actors could be Martin Henderson , Macaulay Culkin and Janet Jackson (who had agree to star in "Tennessee, but I don't know if she's still in the movie).

Mariah Carey - Definition of a Diva
For almost two decades, Mariah Carey has stood the tests of time. Through highly publicized failed relationships, rumors of emotional breakdowns, and speculation of a finished career due to declining album sales and unfavorable reviews concerning her acting endeavors, Mariah has proven to possess the most important attribute of any person who carries the label of DIVA...durability. "Definition of a Diva" takes an in depth look into Mariah's adversity-filled journey to superstardom; from her tormented childhood, all the way up through her re-emergence as one of the most powerful and influential voices the world has ever known.

Mariah: TRL's First Lady
The singer is honored by MTV along with Kanye West, Madonna, Ashlee Simpson, Amanda Bynes, Fall Out Boy and others
Although she has never received a Moon Man -- the coveted MTV Video Music Awards trophy -- Mariah Carey is officially the First Lady of TRL. The singer received the honor at MTV's 4th Annual TRL Awards, which air Feb. 25 at 12 p.m. ET.
"This is from the voters, the viewers, the actual people who watch the channel so MTV should take note of that next time they're voting on the other award," Mariah told TEEN PEOPLE backstage at the MTV Studios where she accepted the prize. The singer then quickly added a very intentional "Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha," to indicate that she was only half serious about her suggestion.
Since fans determine the TRL countdown, it's only natural that their votes also determine the show's awards.

Cam'ron and Mariah Hook Up
Mariah Carey can deny it, but it sure looks like something's up between her and bad-boy rapper Cam'ron. The duo hosted a party together at the Roxy in L.A. last weekend and were spotted snuggling at Bungalow 8 a couple of weeks ago. Mimi has also been seen riding around in his blue Lamborghini and wearing a chain of Cam's crew, the Diplomats. Sure to be displeased by the developments: Mark Sudack, the record producer who's been seeing Carey, though she's loath to call him her boyfriend.

Mariah Carey have made beautiful music in the past on wax. Now it seems as if the duo are cozying up together outside of the studio. The New York Daily News reports that the pair was spotted at Bungalow 8 playing it close a few weeks ago and hosted a party together at the Roxy out in Los Angeles this past weekend.
Mariah has also been seen rocking a Dipset chain and cruising in his blue Lamborghini - - the same vehicle in which Cam was shot in the arm over. Now we all would hate for some “New Jersey Drive” shit to happen to Mimi so home girl better play it safe. Mariah insist that the two are friends but we all know what that means.

Charlotte and Mariah step out with man's best friend
Jaw-dropping vocal powers aren't the only things Charlotte Church and Mariah Carey have in common, as the two singers also share a fondness for man's best friend. The chart-topping pair, who have both enjoyed dramatic career comebacks in recent times, showed their affection for their furry companions when they stepped out on Tuesday afternoon.
Mariah was accompanied by her four-legged friend Jack when she arrived for an MTV awards ceremony in New York. The 35-year-old, who usually wears skimpy gowns to showbiz events, was looking rather more demure in jeans and a cropped black top. Her canine companion was dressed to impress, however, in a specially-made green velvet jacket with an orange fur-trimmed hood.
And it would appear his A-list owner isn't the only one smitten with the pooch, as a group of Japanese fans have set up a website in his honour. "I laughed out loud for ten minutes when I found out about Jack's website," revealed the glamorous chanteuse. "He really is a very cool dog. It talks all about him - like his swimming antics - on his website. They love Jack."

Could Mariah Carey and Paris Hilton be battling it out for the prize of best-dressed pooch?
Sexy socialite Paris started the dog-dressing craze last year after her beloved Chihuahua Tinkerbell was spotted in a variety of cute outfits.
But as our picture shows, singer Mariah should definitely get the award for the coolest dog.
The sexy singer dressed her white pooch in a 70s style orange and green parka to attend the MTV TRL awards in New York last night.

Tribute album for Mariah
In an interview on Christian Music Today, Karen Clark Sheard said: " I was asked to sing one of Mariah Carey's inspirational songs on a tribute album for her, and I thought that was so awesome. I felt like it was so major just to have been asked. I was told that when she heard that I'd be part of the project, she was jumpin' up like I was a mega-star!
When I finally got a chance to talk with her, she began to cry and told me that she'd admired me from afar."
Also from a Gospel Flava interview:
Both Beyoncé and Mariah Carey listed you as major vocal influences, and sang your praises. How important is it that Gospel artists be visible and recognizable forces in the secular music industry?
Wow, you know, it is so encouraging and exciting to know that information. Especially from Beyoncé and Mariah, because those two ladies are some REAL singers. These are just reminders that my light is shining. About a month ago, I was asked to be a part of a tribute to Mariah Carey, and not just to sing but to have a one-on-one session with her. As we were backstage talking she just began to cry and she said to me, "Sis Karen, you changed my life". While we were talking I could literally feel the yearning inside of her to know Christ and we talked for a while. Yes they are mega-stars, but we have no clue what they have to go through on a personal level sometimes. I know I am often criticized for it, but God can trust me not to compromise, and he has really been using me to bring them in, so let the criticism keep coming. Leave my Judas alone, ok? Y'all ain't doin nothing but taking me to another level."

Keanu, Mariah and Frankie - Oh My!

Keanu Reeves' house looks like a mausoleum; Mariah Carey wears halter-tops to funerals.
These things and more we learned, assuming the brokers aren't goosing the truth a bit, in tomorrow's Real Estate section of The New York Times.
In a rather breezy, loping piece by Teri Karush Rogers (I know, we should talk), brokers serve up their usual self-serving tidbits of non-information about celebrities, sprinkled with a few good little snippets--notably from Elliman's Dolly Lenz.
Dolly says:
[She] once advised Mariah Carey to arrive for an interview with a Manhattan building's co-op board "dressed for a funeral." She appeared "in a halter top and mini-mini-miniskirt," Ms. Lenz recalled.
"I said, 'I told you to come dressed for a funeral,' " Ms. Lenz said. "She said, 'This is the way I dress for a funeral.' " She was not approved.
Right! Remember that? From The Economist, Sept. 8, 2005:
A few years ago Ms Lenz sold Barbara Streisand's apartment on Central Park West to Mariah Carey, another popular singer, only to have the deal blocked by a residents' committee which balked at the team of bodyguards accompanying Ms Carey to her interview.

False concert announced, giant fraud in Spain

The Spanish police discovered a giant fraud in Sitgès (near Barcelona).  Tickets have been sold for a special Carnival concert with performances from Mariah Carey and Britney Spears on February the 26th.. Posters and a website promoting the concert attracted people who unfortunately paid between 45 and 55 euros for false tickets of the event "held" in the Hotel Melia in Sitgès.  The false posters contain the names of big international companies who appear as sponsors for the concert, to give it more credibility.  Coca-Cola, Redbull, Carrefour, Lufthansa, Delta Air, Ferrari, Milka CH, Phillips, Vodafone and Pan American Air Line are listed as sponsors.
The website www.vivaenvivo.com, advertising the concert has been shutted down.
The Spanish police asks people who bought tickets for this false concert to call the Unidad de Policía Judicial de Sitges at the following number: 93-814.70.50

Mariah featured on the new Bone album
"We’re going to drop two albums this year," Krayzie said. "One of them is with Swiss Beats (a hip-hop producer) and one is something we’re doing ourselves. We’ve been in the studio, and we’ve got a lot of star producers like Dr. Dre, Three 6 Mafia, Kanye West, from Lil’ John and Big Boi from Outkast, and that’s just in productions."
Krayzie said the new Bone albums, which have not yet been titled, will also feature guest spots by industry stars like Mariah Carey and Petey Pablo. That’s a change of pace from the old Bone-Thugs, whose only visiting artist on previous albums was Tupac Shakur.
"There’s never been any room for anyone on a Bone album but us," Krayzie said. "It’s something different we’re trying, and we’ve never done it before. We think it will go over well. A lot of fans have requested that we do something with this person or that person, so we’re finally doing it now."
"It’s definitely the original Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, but it’s new Bone, too," Krayzie said. "There are going to be a lot of surprises. A lot of people are thinking that since Bizzy’s not in the group, Bone can’t rap no more. But we gonna show ’em. We gonna learn ’em real good."

The international chart toppers, who boast on their website to have brought opera to the masses, will perform the song at the opening ceremony in Munich on 9 June.

Mariah and the Soccer World Championship

Honey and Kate from Butterlies Are Free posted the following and apparently they love the mascot :
"Germany has been infected with soccermania ever since it was announced that we will be where soccer magic happens this summer. Soccer is everywhere and all that is needed to make the soccermania perfect is a hymn for the world championship. It seems Mariah was the first choice for performing that song but declined. Musikmarkt Online reports that Mariah "did not agree with the proposed song" and that is why "Il Divo" now are performing the title. Another song will be provided by German singer/songwriter Herbert Grönemeyer. We personally think Mariah saw a picture of the slightly scary and pantless mascot Goleo (yes, it's supposed to be a lion). And let's face it, Mariah and the lion-bear-thing on one stage? Scary... look at the picture."

Heroes comment: Wow, too bad it's not Mariah who will sing the hymn, 'cause there will be hundred of millions people watching the opening ceremony of the Soccer World Cup.

Mariah Carey blames dress
Mariah Carey is blaming her Chanel dress for her imperfect appearance at the Golden Globe awards.
On the night, US fashion expert David Evangelista said the 'Hero' singer's plunging black number "looked like a wine bottle opener".
Now Carey has hit back, blaming the outfit's figure-hugging fabric.
She told America's Rolling Stone magazine: "Satin is very unforgiving.
"What was I going to do? Call Karl Legerfeld and say, 'Can you please make it out of matte jersey instead?'"

The morning after the event - when designers usually plug who wore their dresses - Chanel reportedly left the singer's name off their press release.
Publicist for the fashion house, Gretchen Gunlocke-Fenton, denied it was done deliberately.
She said: "Was she left off?
"That could have been because we're never sure what the stars will wear until the last minute. And she had several fittings in Los Angeles after she met personally with Karl in Paris."

Mariah not aware of a duet with Janet
Yesterday on TRL they showed an interview with Mariah at the Grammys. They asked her about what JD said,  that she and Janet were going to do a duet. Mariah said she heard the rumor too, but that she has not been approached about it, and that she didn't know anything of it.

No Grammy Bounce for CD Sales
With all those incredible performances at last Wednesday’s Grammy Awards, you’d think there would have been a subsequent sales bonanza in record stores (or do we call them CD stores?).
But the way things looked yesterday on the hitsdailydouble Web site, fans did not run to pick up CDs by the artists who appeared on the show.
But what to do if CD sales from the Grammy’s really turn out to be lifeless? Personally, I thought when Mariah Carey did her “Fly Like a Bird” number, a million CDs would be sold. It looks like the real total will about a tenth of that. Of course, maybe that’s because nearly everyone in the US of A has Mariah’s album by now, in two different configurations.
The real reason CDs aren’t selling? Maybe it’s time to start looking at radio monopolies, and how they’re stifling interest in pop music.
Source: FOX News (All rights reserved) (extract)
Heroes comment: Roger, mate, I think you're right,  it will not be a million cds, and no the total wasn't a tenth of that, Mariah's album ended  #7 with 88,872 copies sold. Not that bad.

Sincere and beautiful recordings
Romantic pop songs and love allegiances are the soundtrack to our lives, from Ella Fitzgerald's "Someone to watch over me," to Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together." They work because they are sincere and beautiful recordings and even on Valentine's Day, they understand that the good times can stop just as suddenly as they started. After all, you never know what you've got until it's gone.

Mariah bashed by "Brits"nominee
Some "artists" are ready to use all ways to have her name in the press, for a lot of them, praying or bashing Mariah seem to be the only way for their name to appear somewhere.  Well, I'm gonna do them a favour , Tom Smith, singer of "Editors" nominated for this years "Brits" says he wants to vomit when he hears Mariah's voice.
Poor Tom, nobody wants to vomit hearing your voice, 'cause nobody (at least outside the UK) knows you .

The Buzz Worthy
Mariah Carey, despite being snubbed at the Grammys last week, still tops our list of people who are winners anyway.
1. BIG WINNER: In our eyes, Mariah Carey still deserves all the awards. All the kudos. Has all the style. And has ALL the talent. Never mind the Grammys, Mimi. Kelly Clarkson who?
Isn’t she some contest winner who’s — at best — a wannabe, cut-rate Mariah Carey karaoke singer anyway? Don’t know what happened behind closed doors when people were deciding who should win Grammys this year, but they really need to set a criteria and stick with it. One where talent and class win out over reality TV and two-year-old songs.

- Hit Contact (French speaking part of Belgium) - 17 (22)
This is history, the track is now since 17 weeks in the Hit Contact (French speaking part of Belgium) Top 40, and climbs 5 spots again this week, it's a real yoyo, goes down, goes up, it's kinda surprising as we expected once again the track to fall, "Get Your Number" will never die , thanks to the ones who keep requesting the track on that station, you rock
The highest spot the track got on this station was #3 on December the 31st.

Loosers!!!!!! Kanye's guests ruined Mariah's LG after party, but the 3am girls made it.....

We beat A-listers into Mariah Carey's party
Kiki King, & Caroline Hedley In Los Angeles & Eva Simpson In London
AN A-list crowd including Beyonce and Jay-Z tried and failed to get in to Mariah Carey's lavish post-Grammys bash - but the 3am girls are made of stronger stuff.

While celebs were left waiting outside the £4.5million Beverly Hills mansion on Wednesday night, our Caroline and Kiki were sipping Cristal champagne with the award-winning hostess who looked stunning in a Azzedine Alaia dress.

The debacle occurred when Kanye West's party was closed down due to overcrowding. VIP guests went in search of another stylish do - with many heading for Mariah's soiree.

Their Hummer limos flooded the narrow residential street. And as the stars were still queuing to get in, the emergency services deemed it a fire hazard and closed Mariah's party down just an hour after it started.
One guest said: "It was mayhem, but fire marshals decided it was too busy and closed the party down. People were told to sit in their cars for two hours before being turned away.
"Even Beyonce was sent on her way after her car pulled up at the end of a 100-car queue."

Guests who made it in to the £200,000 bash included Kirsten Dunst, Mischa Barton and Playboy boss Hugh Hefner. But some close pals of Mariah - who won three Grammys at the ceremony in LA's Staples Center - were left out in the cold.

And a guest said: "Mariah was devastasted, She pleaded with the fire depart-ment to let her closest friends and colleagues in, but there was no relenting. It ruined her night, but at 2am, 10 of the 300 or so people who were still outside were allowed up."

And among them were Caroline and Kiki. Mariah told us: "I'm so glad you got in. I'm so disappointed for all the people that waited, though."
And when her do ended at 3.30am, she declared: "I'm off to find Prince's party - want to come?"
Well, it would be rude not to...

I really couldn't resist to this one, even a hater speaks the truth....
This extract is taken from New York Daily News
While all this came as a huge relief to anyone with an ounce of esthetic sense, it couldn't help but make you feel a little sorry for Mariah. To give the gal so many shots at the start, only to snatch them away in the final moments, seemed like a giant game of bait and switch. Especially since Carey had already suffered a big defeat back at the 1996 ceremony.
That year, the singer went home without a single one of the six trinkets she was up for. This time, with her album "The Emancipation of Mimi," Carey did manage to snag three lesser prizes (her first in 16 years). But none of those were televised, giving viewers the undeniable perception of her as the year's biggest loser. Worse, Carey sacrificed the Best Female Pop Vocal category to an upstart who crudely mimics her: Kelly Clarkson.
The fact that Clarkson won two awards brings the Grammys' credibility to its lowest ebb since the band behind "Boogie Oogie Oogie" (A Taste of Honey) won for Best New Artist over Elvis Costello. (That would be 1978, for those keeping score at home.)
Even the big, and worthy, wins for U2 and Green Day had their downside. Each band captured the gold for music that's more than a year old and had earned prizes last time around. Blame the quirks of eligibility.
A year ago, U2 won for a song ("Vertigo") from their latest album, which was released prior to the deadline. This time they triumphed for music that came out after it (the blissful cut "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own" from the same album, "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb").
A year ago, Green Day snagged trophies for their most recent album, "American Idiot." This time they earned Record of the Year for a song from that same CD, one that came out as a single months later ("Boulevard of Broken Dreams"). As powerful as these works may be, rewarding them two years in a row makes it seem as if nothing new went on in music this past year.

Mariah on the Cover of Rolling Stone Magazine

In the February 23 issue of Rolling Stone magazine, Mariah dishes on everything from her body to her difficult childhood to her tremendous stardom.
On her curves I can't try to compete with people that weigh 80 pounds soaking wet - look, I'm ethnic. Iv'e got a butt, and I want to keep it because I like it!
On her childhood and her stardom I have so much gratitude about where I’m at personally and professionally that I don’t think I’ve even expressed it to anybody fully - You think I don’t get down on my knees and thank God for every single thing that I have? I could have been somewhere in a gutter the way my life was going, at twelve. I was in some very dangerous situations, and it’s only by the grace of God that I survived. People can say whatever they want, but ultimately I’m the same person I was before I became famous.

To complete the night, Mariah's Party was shut down
Mariah: She Was Almost On Fire (Fi-ah)
Mariah Carey’s Grammy after party last night was one of several around Hollywood that was shut down by the Los Angeles Fire Marshal and the police department.

Yes, this is a town quite unlike New York, and the marshal is always waiting to shut something down early. Call it retribution from the unions to the celebrities who run wild all over the place here. It’s as regular as the smog.

Mariah’s party was a private one at the unbelievably magnificent Beverly Hills mansion/estate of grocery magnate Ron Burkle. High in the hills above the Beverly Hills Hotel, the Burkle castle once belonged to legendary comic actor Harold Lloyd.
It was on 18 acres then, but it’s whittled down to six by now. The place looks like something out of Jackie Collins meets F. Scott Fitzgerald. And among the principal guests in the last couple of years: Bill Clinton and Michael Jackson.
Last night, Mariah and Jermaine Dupri, her co-host, overbooked. The result was over 600 people trying to go up a long and winding driveway. Some went by foot, others by fancy golf cart. Shuttle buses brought people to the foot of the drive from a gathering place near the Beverly Hills Civic Center. One hundred or so private cars went directly to the house, even though only the permit was only for 50. And so on.

The problem, we heard, was that Burkle’s staff had only applied for a permit for a temporary structure they’d erected on his tennis courts. The permit didn’t cover the whole estate. The marshal seized on this mistake like Paris Hilton in a swag tent.

Who got in? Well, Rob Thomas and his wife Marisol made it, and they got to meet Joaquin Phoenix. Quincy Jones was turned away initially, but eventually found a way past increasingly agitated cops who’d gotten irate calls from Burkle’s neighbors to shut off the loud music and untangle the traffic in front of their homes.

When one of the party’s planners came down the drive to rescue Kelly Clarkson from the melee, he himself was barred from returning by the police.

Mariah’s back-up singers waited an hour before they were rescued. You get the picture. Part of Stevie Wonder’s 30-member entourage got sidelined, but Tyra Banks was smart enough to arrive on the early side.

Producer David Foster got in and out without any trouble, as did musicians Alex Orbison, Roy Orbison Jr., Cisco Adler and his girlfriend Mischa Barton.

Once we managed to overcome all the obstacles — thanks to Benny Medina’s super-smart friend and business associate Ken Starr (not the Whitewater guy) — we got quite an eyeful.

Burkle’s home is a lot like Hearst Castle, except it doesn’t have a ticket booth or souvenirs. It does boast a gorgeous full-size carousel, however, and an art collection that would make the curators at the Louvre in Paris trade their favorite espresso for an exhibit.

But don’t think my mentioning this could be trouble for Burkle. His security team is composed of former Secret Service agents who were incredibly nice to us, but I think mean business if the time comes.

Mariah’s party was not the only shut down by the fire marshal. Warner Music Group’s shindig at the Pacific Design Center was so overpacked that honcho Lyor Cohen couldn’t get in when he arrived.
And yet Mariah looked lovely, and was excited about her three Grammy wins. Medina, her manager, was over the moon about her performance at the show, especially “Fly Like a Bird,” the number that sent the audience into a frenzy.

“Three Grammys and that performance?” Benny said to me backstage. “We don’t have anything to complain about.”

That and the fact that Mariah’s voice and fashion were as good as you can get. Believe me, she sold more copies of her “Mimi” album last night to put it back in next week’s top 5.

The "Grammy's" are closed story for me, you may always do a research on Yahoo! or google or whatever, you'll see I'm not the only one who's very happy for Mariah BUT think she deserved more and got snubbed aswell as the whole RnB music genre at yesterday's "ceremony".  They didn't even gave her the opportunity to appear on stage on TV to receive her Grammy Awards.  I want to thank the Belgian media for the way they reported the Grammy highlights in a neutral way and were all surprised that Mariah didn't get what she deserved.
Congrats again sweetheart for the 3 Grammy's you won and for all the Awards they will never be able to give you 'cause they come from the heart of your real fans.  Thanks for giving us "your and our moment".
For all the ones, thinking they are in Mariah's shoes and are sure, she and her close ones are the happiest people in the world...... just look at this......

Mariah Carey wins 3 Grammy Awards!!!
MARIAH CAREY WINS THREE GRAMMY AWARDS, INCLUDING BEST FEMALE R&B VOCAL PERFORMANCE AND BEST R&B SONG FOR "WE BELONG TOGETHER," AND BEST CONTEMPORARY R&B ALBUM FOR THE EMANCIPATION OF MIMI

MARIAH'S RETURN TO GRAMMY WINNERS CIRCLE FOLLOWS SWEEPS AT AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS, VIBE AWARDS, BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS, AND RADIO MUSIC AWARDS

(February 9, 2006 - New York, NY) Performer and songwriter Mariah Carey returns to the arms of Grammy, winning awards last night for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song for "We Belong Together," and Best Contemporary R&B Album for The Emancipation Of Mimi.

"This is a momentous and well-deserved confirmation of Mariah's artistry and devotion to her music," said Antonio "L.A." Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group. Mariah's appearance at the Grammy Awards worldwide broadcast was highlighted by a stirring live performance of "We Belong Together," with full gospel church choir.

The Emancipation Of Mimi, named the biggest-selling album of 2005, generated an all-time career-high 8 Grammy nominations for Mariah. The album includes Mariah's 16th and 17th #1 career singles, "We Belong Together" and "Don't Forget About Us," respectively - which tied one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard Hot 100 history, Elvis Presley's 17 #1's. Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 47 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to match or surpass the Beatles' all-time high 20 #1 hits.

The Grammy triumph caps an extraordinary season of awards for Mariah, which began in November with the 33rd annual American Music Awards, where was voted Favorite Soul/Rhythm & Blues Female Artist by the 20,000 record-buyers whose votes determine the winners. At the 3rd annual VIBE Awards (on UPN), Mariah led the pack for a single album with four wins generated by The Emancipation of Mimi: Artist Of The Year, Album Of The Year, R&B Voice Of The Year, and Best R&B Song for "We Belong Together."

Three weeks later at the 2005 Billboard Music Awards, Mariah she was named Top R&B Singles Artist - Female, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Artist - Female, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Artist - Female, and Top Overall Albums Artist - Female, with "We Belong Together" named the #1 Hot 100 Single Of the Year. Later in December, at the annual Radio Music Awards broadcast live on NBC from Las Vegas, Mariah was honored with the Legend Award and was named Artist of the Year/Urban and Rhythmic Radio, in addition to "We Belong Together" winning both Song of the Year/Main Stream Hit Radio and Song of the Year/Urban and Rhythmic Radio.

In its 43rd week on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, The Emancipation Of Mimi has sold more than 8 million copies worldwide, bringing Mariah's career sales over 160 million units worldwide. ULTRA PLATINUM EDITION (which arrived in stores November 15th), the expanded new configuration of the album, recaps all 14 tracks on Mimi and adds four new tracks: "Don't Forget About Us," #1 most-added at Pop, Rhythm and Urban radio formats as it moves to the top of the charts; "So Lonely (One and Only Part 2)," Mariah's collaboration with Twista (with a new extra verse written by Mariah); the remix of "We Belong Together" featuring Jadakiss and Styles P. (previously only available digitally online); and "Making It Last All Night (What It Do)," featuring Jermaine Dupri.

ULTRA PLATINUM EDITION is also available as a special deluxe limited edition two-disc (CD + DVD) package. The exclusive DVD contains full-length video clips for "It's Like That," "We Belong Together," "Shake It Off," and "Get Your Number" (featuring Jermaine Dupri, making its U.S. debut here); a never-before-seen interview - "Mariah: In Her Own Words," plus a link to access the brand new video for "Don't Forget About Us."

No comments.  Did you noticed for song of the year, they announced U2 as winner and began to play "We Belong Together" And now, they began with "Kan" and corrected immediately with U2 again.  I will only say one thing, it's weird.  Mariah is snubbed again in her own country.
Calm down guys, I see by your e-mails you're all angry, I'm too.
What does Mariah needs to do more to be recognised by the music industry? I really don't know.

Mariah's HS classmates rooting for her at Grammy's
It was spring 1987. Mariah Carey and her Harborfields High School classmates were gathered for a graduation party at a friend's house. A student band, Squid, was playing in the background. And between sets, Carey nervously asked if she could sing a song.

Mark Brummer, one of the band members, recalled how he had written out the lyrics to the U2 song "With or Without You" and held them beside her for reference. "She was very eager and energetic to be given a chance like that," Brummer wrote in an e-mail interview. "We struggled through it a bit, but she did quite well considering that none of us rehearsed it."
That performance marked the first time many of her classmates would become aware that Carey had her eyes set on the stars. Now those former classmates say they will be rooting tonight for the eight Grammy nominee -- even if they haven't kept in touch.

"I want her to win every single Grammy," said Jeanmarie Sarro, a high school friend who lives in East Rockaway. "I listen to her music. My kids listen to her music. My 7-year-old thinks she's the diva to end all divas."

Sarro described Carey as a popular, pretty student who never boasted about her talents. "Did she ever break out in song? Never," she said. "She would go to a party and did not dance. It was the '80s. There was no way she was going to funk out to Duran Duran."

Raised by a single mother, Carey reportedly moved 14 times before finishing high school, and was one of the school's few minority students.

"Now that I'm an adult looking back, I don't think that she had all the financial advantages that we all had," Sarro said. "I think she had a nice high school experience because she had friends and we all loved each other. I wish her nothing but the best."

Former teacher .Edward Hartling recalled when some faculty members first heard Carey on the radio. "We were shocked," he said. "No one in the high school even knew she had that interest."

Neither Sarro nor Brummer have kept in touch with Carey. "We've been trying to get in touch with her for some professional pointers and suggestions in the realm of the music world," Brummer wrote. "We've even tried sending her some of our band's CDs, but as one might imagine, it's .extremely difficult .contacting her.

"I can but only hope that someday she returns the favor and allows my current band a chance to perform at one of her shows," he added. "Tongue in cheek but a man can dream can't he?"

Remind:
Belgian fans, how to follow the Grammy's tonight
For us, it will start at 2am.  You can follow it on the Belgian TV channel JIM (only by cable in Flanders), and by the Astra satellite, on W9 (French channel) and ProSieben (German channel).  If like me you can't access none of them, there's always a possibility: buying a satellite dish or booking an hotel room in Flanders...... (, yesterday was so funny, when Kinou and I phoned to a lot of hotels with the only question: "can we received JIM TV in the rooms" )

Centrino gets a boost from Mariah
Intel has managed to keep Mariah Carey on message for 30 seconds in order to produce the singer's first television ad, a new spot for Intel's Centrino Duo technology.
Carey, nominated for eight Grammy awards, will show off her vocal range in an ad that will appear first during Wednesday's showing of the Grammys. The ad will show Mariah sitting on the lap of a lucky library patron as part of Intel's new campaign showing off the entertainment possibilities of laptop computers with the Centrino Duo package of chips.

Grammy night could be Carey’s coronation
In less than a year’s time, Mariah Carey managed to escape pop’s most dreaded fate — faded superstar — to become its reigning queen, ruling the record charts with the year’s most popular single and its best-selling album.

Carey could also become queen of the Grammys if her momentum carries in to Wednesday night. The diva, who won her only two Grammys 16 years ago as a multiplatinum newcomer, has the opportunity to win a record-setting eight trophies, including in the coveted categories of record, song, and album of the year. No woman has won more than five Grammys in one evening.

A big win would be especially sweet for Carey, one of the best-selling artists of all time, who fell into a slump a few years ago after dealing with an emotional breakdown, a flop movie with “Glitter” and its poorly received soundtrack. In 2005, she was redeemed — “The Emancipation of Mimi” sold more than 5 million copies and her torch ballad “We Belong Together” was the year’s most popular song.

“I think Mariah is going to have a great night,” said Carey fan Alicia Keys, who shares the most-Grammys-in-one-haul record with Beyonce and Lauryn Hill. “It’s very nice to see people not give up.”

“I’m just so happy for her,” said Mary J. Blige. “I watched them count her out; I watched them not believe her; I watched them say she was done. And she’s back! So I’m going there just to see that, clap for her, and just be happy for her, and yes — I want her to get all of them. I want her to clean up.”

Ten years ago, Carey was also in a position to sweep the Grammy awards, up for six of them, including record of the year for the tear-jerker ballad “One Sweet Day” with Boyz II Men. But she went home empty-handed as edgy newcomer Alanis Morissette became the belle of the ball, winning four for “Jagged Little Pill.”

This time, Carey again has tough competition in many of the categories in which she’s nominated.

“The nominees are as strong as they’ve been in a long time,” said Rick Krim, executive vice president of music and talent programming at VH1. With a diverse field of nominees that includes U2, Paul McCartney, Green Day and Gwen Stefani, he said, it’s possible no artist — even Carey — will dominate the Grammys this year.

'Belong Together' drives Mariah, Madge apart
There better be plenty of distance between the dressing rooms of Madonna and Mariah Carey at tomorrow's Grammys.
We told you three weeks ago that Madonna would perform at the awards. We didn't know then how much she'd rankle Miss Carey.
Mariah, who is nominated for eight Grammys, "really wanted to open the show with her choir-backed rendition of 'We Belong Together,'" an insider tells us.
Unfortunately, Madonna also wanted to kick off the broadcast — or else she wasn't coming, she's said to have told Grammy producers.
Even though Madonna's smash "Confessions on a Dancefloor" wasn't nominated for any Grammys, the producers gave in. They're said to be betting that her dance extravaganza, featuring the British group Gorillaz, will hook viewers early and hard.
"The producers noted that Madge is a five-time winner," reported a source.
But Carey, the comeback queen who has picked up only two Grammys to date, is reportedly vexed.
"The war between Madonna and Mariah has been going on for years," says a source. "Mariah was also steaming last summer when Madonna stole the show at Live 8."
Source: New York Daily News (All rights reserved)
Heroes comment: "Madonna also wanted to kick off the broadcast or else she wasn't coming, the producers gave in", what, what, what?????  Why did they accepted that blackmail??????  Also, another thing to say, Madonna didn't steal the show from nobody at the  Live 8, I didn't say it at that time, but it seems Madonna used the Live 8 to make a huge publicity for her "Kabbalah" stuff (no offense to the adepts of the Kabbalah), but it was really not the right place to promote it on a huge screen.
Mariah was the one with the real message, performing with the Chidren's Choir of Africa. Definitely the greatest moment.

Mariah featured on Freeway's upcoming album
Philadelphia rapper Freeway, of State Property fame, has become an official member of 50 Cent's G-Unit rap crew and is hard at work on a third album titled Free at Last, according to his manager.
The album is co-executive produced by 50 Cent and Def Jam president Jay-Z, and will be released under Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam, said Freeway's manager Ryan Press of Press Conference Management.
"Me, Jay-Z, and 50 are working hard on the album together," Freeway told AllHipHop.com in a statement. "I got mad love for [50]. What people don't know is that we have been tight for a while. Our first album both came out in the same month, and we did a lot of shows and other things together back then."
50 Cent's longtime manager and G-Unit founder Sha Money XL also confirmed 50's involvement in the project, as well as Lloyd Banks and Young Buck.
The album is slated to feature Kanye West, Beanie Sigel, the Roots' Black Thought, Nate Dogg, and Mariah Carey, in addition to production by West, Just Blaze, Scott Storch, Dangerous LLC, and Needlz, among others.
"Philly, I got a crazy joint with Black Thought. You already know what time it is with my joint I got with [Jay-Z]," said Freeway. "We only make classics, and the joint with 50 is stupid.
According to Press, Freeway is still currently signed to Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam and maintains good ties with Jay-Z.
Representatives for Def Jam could not be reached for comment.
"Jay-Z and Freeway have a great relationship and they're gonna work together for the album and other projects," said Press. "[They're] still very tight. There are no problems there. Freeway wants to put the Roc back were it is supposed to be."
Freeway made his first notable appearance on "1-900-Hustler," from Jay-Z's 2000 compilation album, Dynasty: Roc la Familia.
The rapper followed with his solo debut, Philadelphia Freeway in 2003 and Welcome to the Hood the next year.
His new album is due tentatively in May.
"The album is gonna be crazy. You're gonna hear growth from Freeway, the same classic hood bangers, and some stuff about why he has been in the cut for a minute," said Press.
He added that the album will also address the status of Freeway's relationships with G-Unit, State Property, and fellow Roc-A-Fella founders Damon Dash and Kareem "Biggs" Burke.
"Any questions that you have about Freeway will be answered on the album," said Press. "He really wanted to stress that a lot of people are making songs that just come and go but if you check his track record, 'What We Do,' 'Rock the Mic,' and 'Flipside' are part of Hip-Hop history and are records that still bang in main rotation even though they are three years old."
Added Freeway: "I'm just very excited about my new album and also to help the unity in hip-hop and prove that young black successful people can work together in this game. It's gonna be big for the east coast. We need something like this."

Mariah Carey has visions of love from the Grammys
The last time Mariah Carey received a batch of Grammy nominations, she endured one of the most humiliating experiences of her career as she was shut out all six times while a worldwide television audience watched her mood darken throughout the ceremony.
Ten years on, and with eight Grammy nominations this year, the comeback queen of 2005 should have a more enjoyable time at the music industry's biggest night of the year on Wednesday, music industry experts say. She has collected only two   Grammys to date, winning in 1991 for best new artist and her breakthrough single "Vision of Love."

Mariah Carey 'Emancipates' Her Career

With eight Grammy nominations, Mariah Carey is firmly back in the arena of super stardom.
She's up for three of the most prestigious awards: best album, song and record of the year.
The Early Show national correspondent Hattie Kauffman met up with Carey over the weekend at her Grammy rehearsal and asked the singer about the title of her hit comeback album.
"Naming it 'The Emancipation of Mimi' had a lot to do with me saying, 'Okay, this is me the person as well as the artist formerly known as Mariah Carey,' " she told Kauffman. "I'll always be Mariah Carey, recording artist, whatever you want to label me as, but the thing is, this is very special to me because it's a labor of love."
Kauffman reported that not so long ago, Carey's career was in a nose dive and she was released from her record company. But now, with 8 million copies sold, her new album marks an unprecedented revival.
"All I can really do is thank God and thank my fans and really just try to enjoy this moment for them, too, because this is their moment, too," Carey said.
Many music writers are calling Carey's success the biggest comeback in pop music but the singer says she never thought it was over for her.
"I've never lost faith in myself. I've never not believed in who I am and my real fans never have either," she said.
She also told Kauffman of the tremendous satisfaction she feels in touching the lives of her fans.
"I always think, 'This is so personal, nobody's going to relate to this but me, this is so specific to my life,' " she said. "And then those are the songs that, mainly, a lot of young girls will say, 'This got me through the worst time in my life. Thank you so much for writing it.' That's the reward. That's the truest reward."
It has been 16 years since Carey's debut and in that time she's sold 150 million albums, according to Kauffman.
And she's experienced all the different sides of glamour.
"The glamorous life is fun sometimes," she said. "Sometimes it looks glamorous but it's not glamorous. Like our feet hurt, and we get to take off our shoes when we're behind the scenes."
Click here to watch the 5 minutes footage (look for Mariah Carey Hopeful ), where Mariah confirms she will sing "Fly Like A Bird" at the grammy's, how she wrote "Vision of Love" in 1 hour and how the Grammy's is the fans' moment too.

Rhymes' Bodyguard Dies Outside Video Shoot
A star-studded music video shoot was interrupted by gunfire that killed a bodyguard for rapper Busta Rhymes, police said.
Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes and G-Unit members including Lloyd Banks were scheduled to be filming on a ninth-floor soundstage when violence erupted outside the Brooklyn building early Sunday, said police Sgt. Kevin Farrell.
Israel Ramirez, 29, was killed with a single shot to the chest, Farrell said. Rhymes, a Brooklyn native whose legal name is Trevor Smith, was not injured.
About 500 people were gathered for the video that was to accompany a remix of Rhymes' latest hit single, "Touch It."
It was unclear how many of the celebrities and crew were outside the building when the shots were fired.
Investigators were still trying to determine early Monday what led to the violence, Farrell said. Shortly before the shooting, a man connected to 50 Cent's G-Unit rap group reportedly had an outburst at the studio.
The incident was the latest in a series of incidents involving rappers, among them Jam Master Jay of Run DMC, who was fatally shot in late 2002, and Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur, who were shot to death in the late 1990s.

Michael Jackson's "The Bottom Of My Heart"
Even if Mariah's collaboration on that track has been officially denied (a few months ago), Mariah is still listed as artist on that project. The song is not finished yet and Michael still needs to add his vocals (we don't know to what he will add his vocals).  For the ones who are interested, (take this with a grain of salt) Michael is now in talks with Vatican officials to put the prayers of Pope John Paul II, who died last year, to music.

How much people will there be on the stage, at the Grammy's, 10?15? 20?30?.....
If Carey wins, says Dupri, "I'm sure that a majority of the producers will go up there. We'll let her talk but share that Grammy with her. Everybody should go on the stage. That's a big night…. We've got to go up and do it like that until they stop us."
"The Emancipation of Mimi" has 22 producers and engineers nominated for Grammys.

Romantic crooner arrested for brawling
A Grammy-winning singer's next scheduled appearance here won't be like his usual romantic rendezvous with Mariah Carey that quickly turn into tabloid fodder.
Instead, Luis Miguel, whose legal name is Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri, finds himself on a court docket listed as a defendant in a misdemeanor assault case after he was arrested last month for allegedly punching a barman in the mouth at the St. Regis Resort Aspen after a patron allegedly insulted his musical abilities.
Miguel, 35, was sitting at a table with friends inside the four-star hotel's regal lounge when William Hayward Hardy, 49, drunkenly approached his table and asked him to sing a "few bars," according to a police report.
"Miguel answered, 'For a thousand dollars,' and Hardy said something like, 'I wouldn't give you fifty cents,'" the police report said.
About 20 minutes after Hardy was instructed to leave the table, which he did, Miguel's bodyguard, Julio Cesar Camera, approached Hardy and his female companion who was catching up on old times with Jason Randall Moan, a bartender/server at the lobby bar. Camera put Hardy in a "choke hold," the police report said, causing Moan to intervene to try to separate the bodyguard from Hardy, who police later noted smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot and watery eyes.
It was at this point that Miguel came up to Moan and began tugging on the barman's arms to try to stop him from pulling Camera off of Hardy. "Moan stated that he pushed Miguel away from him, and Miguel stated, 'Don't you know who I am?' Moan (said he told) Miguel, "I don't care who you are, you don't fight in here.'"
That's when Miguel struck Moan in the face with a closed fist, the report said. Witnesses told police Miguel's punch was the only one thrown during the altercation. Another bartender, Wesley Kubica, told police Miguel was irate, yelling at his bodyguard, "You should be going at them, that's what I pay you for!"
Miguel and Camera both denied a punch was ever thrown, police said.
Nonetheless, police officers issued Miguel a summons for assault and battery, a municipal summons. He was released at the scene and avoided a trip to jail.
He is scheduled to appear in municipal court at City Hall on March 3 to face the charge but a municipal court clerk said Miguel is not required to show up in person and can instead send his attorney, former Aspen Deputy District Attorney Lawson Wills. Wills did not return a phone message Thursday seeking comment.
Meanwhile, Moan, the victim, said his face was bruised by Miguel's alleged punch but the hotel has asked him not to speak about the incident with the press.
When Miguel came to Aspen in 2003, he made headlines when he reportedly bought a $20,000 vase at the Baldwin Gallery for Carey, his then-girlfriend, while she blew $10,000 on Dior skiwear. Miguel and Carey have since gone their separate ways.

www.bowmans.com oddsmakers favour Mariah Carey to sweep major Grammy Awards
www.bowmans.com, the world's leading online gaming company for more than twenty years, have listed Mariah Carey the big favourite heading into the 48th Grammy Awards, to be broadcast February 8 from Los Angeles.
Carey, an eight-time Grammy nominee and two-time winner in 1990, has been installed by Bowmans as the favourite in three major categories. Carey is the even money pick at 1/1 to win Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "It's Like
That". Second choice at 5/2 is Kelly Clarkson for "Since U Been Gone"; with Bowmans listing Sheryl Crow at 12/1 for "Good Is Good"; and Bonnie Raitt at 18/1 for "I Will Not Be Broken".
Bowmans has selected Carey the 3/2 favourite to win Album Of The Year for "The Emancipation"; ahead of second choice Kanye West at 5/2 for "Late Registration"; and third choice Gwen Stefani at 5/1 for "Love, Angel, Music, Baby". Bowmans has made U2 the 10/1 pick for "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" and Sir Paul McCartney the 12/1 selection to win his 14th Grammy, this time for "Chaos And Creation In The Backyard".
Bowmans oddmakers also like Carey to win Record Of The Year for "We Belong Together", but feel it could be a toss-up against Green Day's "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams". Each are the 9/5 favourite, ahead of Kanye West at 3/1 for "Gold Digger"; Stefani at 7/1 for "Hollaback Girl"; and Gorillaz featuring De La Soul at 10/1 for "Feel Good Inc."

Mariah Carey's Emancipation
Mariah Carey is tired of keeping secrets. In the March issue of Marie Claire she talks about growing up poor, her so-called "breakdown," the only unconditional love she's ever known (his name is Jack), the truth about "sleeping around," and what could be the record-breaking year of her life.
The responsibility Carey feels for her fans just may be her way of repaying them for their commitment to her: "I feel an unconditional love with my fans that I don't feel in any other part of my life," she says. The full interview appears in the March issue of Marie Claire, on newsstands now.

 "I Pray" by Paul Robbins

You probably all remember the young Hawaiian fan who performed on Oprah back in May 2005.  Mariah produced a song for him, it's now commercially released on the " WOW Gospel 2006" compilation.

It seems the pictures I posted yesterday coming as "exclusives" from MariahCarey.cc are in fact pictures from HBF, so I removed them from Heroes of Mariah as I don't post HBF infos or pictures according to the rules, I didn't had time to go see the "Pictures" section on HBF, so I didn't know these came from there.  It's against the HBF rules, some people really need to read the "HBF Terms and Conditions" they agreed with when they subscribed.

It's confirmed
I'm sure you all know by now that Madonna will open the Grammy's ceremony, with all respect for Madonna fans, I'm disappointed, she's not even nominee, it's only a publicity stunt to push her album, too bad the Grammy's plays that game.

AP Writers Predict Grammy Winners
By Nekesa Mumbi Moody and David Bauder
It's our job to guess, so here goes...
Record of the Year nominees: "We Belong Together," Mariah Carey; "Feel Good Inc.," Gorillaz featuring De La Soul; "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," Green Day; "Hollaback Girl," Gwen Stefani; "Gold Digger," Kanye West.
Moody: You would think Ms. Mariah would have a lock on this — she had the most popular song and the best-selling album of the year, capping her amazing comeback. And Grammy voters love comebacks. But I think voters will be divided between Carey's beautiful torch song and West's catchy "Gold Digger," leaving the door open for an upset. That won't be accomplished by Stefani — how can you give an award to a song that's basically nonsensical rhymes strung together (though catchy). No, it will be between the Gorillaz and Green Day, and Green Day's poignant "Boulevard" will take it.
Bauder: Gorillaz is the only interloper here — it's a cartoon song by a cartoon band. And what's the matter with nonsensical rhymes stuck together? Doesn't that define half of popular music? Don't overthink this one, Nekesa. My bet is that Mariah will pull through.
Album of the Year: "The Emancipation of Mimi," Mariah Carey; "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard,"     Paul McCartney; "Love. Angel. Music. Baby.," Gwen Stefani; "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," U2; "Late Registration," Kanye West.
Bauder: I can think of a lot of reasons why many of these nominees WON'T win. Grammy voters may like a Carey or Stefani song or two, but think they're too slight as artists for an award like this. Kanye? That crown of thorns magazine cover wasn't a good career move. McCartney will certainly be a sentimental choice but, frankly, the album was overrated and had little impact in the market. That leaves your winner, U2.
Moody: A slight artist? Mariah has a multi-octave voice, buddy! Still, that won't help Mimi here. Yes McCartney's album was overrated, and yes, Kanye is the hot wunderkind of them all. But this is probably the 63-year-old McCartney's last shot at a best album trophy, and with everything he's accomplished, he's never won this one. So I say Grammy voters get all reverential and give it to Sir Paul just for old times sake — though Mimi, you know this should have been yours.
Song of the Year: "Bless the Broken Road," Bobby Boyd, Jeff Hanna & Marcus Hummon, (Rascal Flatts); "Devils & Dust," Bruce Springsteen, (Bruce Springsteen); "Ordinary People," W. Adams & J. Stephens, (John Legend); "Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own," U2; "We Belong Together," J. Austin, M. Carey, J. Dupri & M. Seal, (D. Bristol, K. Edmonds, S. Johnson, P. Moten, S. Sully & B. Womack) (Mariah Carey).
Moody: When it takes the equivalent of a basketball starting lineup to write one song, the chances of said tune winning a song-of-the-year Grammy diminishes greatly — so that scratches off Mariah once again. Rascal Flatt's "Bless the Broken Road" may be great, but outside of country audiences, where did it resonate? The same can be said for John Legend's "Ordinary People," a great song that most people are unaware of. Actually, that can also be said for Springsteen's "Devils & Dust," but we're talking Bruce here! And that's why he'll win, even over Grammy faves U2.
Bauder: Let's take this slow-ow-ow-ow, Nekesa. When you think of Bruce Springsteen, "Devils & Dust" is hardly a song that comes to mind. "Ordinary People" is the kind of lush, romantic ballad that people will remember years from now. U2's beauty is its only real competition here, but it may suffer among voters for having been out too long. Legend wins.
Female Pop Vocal Performance: "It's Like That," Mariah Carey; "Since U Been Gone," Kelly Clarkson; "Good Is Good," Sheryl Crow; "I Will Not Be Broken," Bonnie Raitt; "Hollaback Girl," Gwen Stefani.
Moody: With the amazing performance Carey had with "We Belong Together," it's perplexing that the song is not nominated here; "It's Like That" was a strong, but not stellar performance, which is why she won't win. Clarkson, on the other hand, had the year's greatest groove and put the song over the top with her tour-de-force performance — and she should have been up for record of the year for it. A win here would be a deserved consolation prize.
Bauder: Hey, we agree! Clarkson got dissed this year; she deserved a nomination in one of the bigger categories for "Since U Been Gone."
