More than a black and white issue
America has an interesting view on race. Everything is either black or white. But what if you are both?
Millions of students who plan to pursue higher education ask themselves: What race am I? How will affirmative action affect me if I am a combination of different races? I am one of these millions of students who will ponder these questions, since I am multiracial. I am African American and Caucasian, known to older generations as mulatto. These days, those of African-American and white-American descent happen to be the most popular mixed-race group, followed by African American and Hispanic.

Many people who are biracial or multiracial have chosen to embrace both and all sides of their ancestries, while others have an identity crisis. An identity crisis may be forced upon them by their multiple ethnicities and cultures. At school, many mixed-race children may be asked to identify what race they are. In many multi-race households, this topic may or may not be addressed because either the family has chosen to identify as one race or embrace diversity and told the child that he or she is the same as everyone else. It's commonplace that many families that have children who are African American and Caucasian may not tell their children about being mixed, because they don't want to expose them to racism.

An example of the complexity of being biracial in the American music industry is Mariah Carey. Carey is a child born of a Caucasian father and an African-American mother. The hip-hop industry had a hard time accepting her and even dismissed her as a white girl trying to claim black blood. She has since, however, been accepted in both hip-hop and R&B and by Black Entertainment Television, particularly since she began collaborating with superstar producer Jermaine Dupri, who is African American.

It should be the purpose of everyone to accept each other regardless of racial/ethnic background or mixing. We should promote diversity and exploration of all sides of ones ancestry. Exploring your mixing is the same as exploring your personality. There is no shame in being biracial or multiracial.

My remedy for this situation is to make sure that racism is not reawakened or kept burning in the 21st century. If we choose to let racism keep going on like it did in the first half of the 20th century, no amount of articles and protests will be able to save us. It should be a national goal that blacks, whites, Asians, Native Americans, Hispanics, and yes, biracial and multiracial people can live together.

Mariah mention in " Big Momma's House 2"
In the middle of the movie Martin Lawrence (Big Momma) asks a guy where he is from and he says Long Island. Then Big Momma says "Long Island birthplace of Mariah Carey". That's like a stamp of "homegirliness" amongst her african-american family. Like, "Yep, that's our Girl!!! ".

Mariah and Janet duet?
That's what JD would like, here's what MTV reports:
" Dupri said he's also considering a collaboration between Mariah and Janet, which would mirror Whitney Houston and Mariah's 1998 hit "When You Believe."
"That's been on my mind for a couple weeks now," Dupri admitted. "The hardest part is figuring out a song that fits both of them, because you have two different styles of artists, and the thing when you're dealing with divas is you don't want to overshadow either one, so if you were to do a song for them, it would have to work where both of them would feel they were on the same pedestal, or else someone's gonna have a problem.""

Heroes note: And I bet the song will start by "Ya'll know what this is.. So So Def"

Road To The Grammys: The Story Behind Mariah Carey's 'We Belong Together'
Sessions that produced 'We Belong Together' — Mariah's 16th #1 single — almost didn't happen.
In November 2004 she was still mired in a deep slump that was on the verge of killing her career ("Glitter," anyone?). But she had a full album's worth of hot new material in the can that she was sure would rocket her back to multiplatinum status.
However, Mariah's label boss, L.A. Reid, thought she needed a little insurance, and suggested she try just one more session to sprinkle some final fairy dust on her emancipation proclamation, The Emancipation of Mimi. "L.A. was like, 'You and Jermaine Dupri make magic together, why aren't you in the studio with him?' " Carey recalled. "I said, 'I love Jermaine, is he free? I know he's doing a million things, Usher and this and that.' But Jermaine said, 'Come on down.' "

Dupri, of course, is one of the biggest hitmakers of the past 20 years, having crafted hits for Usher, TLC, Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, Nelly, Aaliyah, Kris Kross and many others in addition to Mariah. When she arrived at Dupri's studio in Atlanta the next day, the two of them worked nonstop, popping off two songs in two days: "Get Your Number" and "Shake It Off."

Up to that point, Carey and Reid had planned to make "Say Somethin'," a collaboration with Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams, her new album's first single. But once Reid heard the Dupri-helmed songs, Carey recalled, "He was like, 'Oh no! Now we've got to change the single, make these singles one and two.' "

Carey agreed. "Nobody could tell me that 'Shake It Off' wasn't going to be my first single. It was my favorite song, just from the demo."

Dupri had quickly sized up what he felt the album needed. "The records that I made are very melodic records, regardless of their hip-hop influence," Dupri said. "I think that's what she was missing."

And since he and Mariah had come up with those two songs in two days, why stop? "Then it was like, 'You want to go back down to Atlanta again?' " she said. So the pair teamed up again, coming up with "It's Like That" and "We Belong Together" — the first two songs in the album's final sequence — in two days. "We said, OK, we love 'Shake It Off,' " Carey recalled. "We don't know how we're going to top that, but let's just try.' It turned out that 'It's Like That' was the right fire-starter, and 'We Belong Together' was the bigger record." "We Belong Together" — which is nominated for Grammys in both the Record of the Year and Song of the Year categories — became Carey's sweet 16: her 16th #1 hit, the most ever by a female artist. (Mariah has since broken her own record with "Don't Forget About Us.")

Dupri may deserve as much credit for what he got Mariah not to do. For someone so associated with multi-octave vocal gymnastics (look up "melisma" in the dictionary and you'll see a picture of Mariah), Carey is a model of restraint on "We Belong Together": She doesn't even raise her voice until the song is near its end. She sings the chorus as if she actually were resigned to not having what she wants, and that understated approach makes the song far more powerful than it would have been if she'd belted it.

"People have to learn the art of subtlety," she said. "We realized that once we did it, it was an inspiration in terms of how I was singing it. It was obvious that if it was touching us, it was going reach other people too."

Carey also reversed her usual technique of singing as many notes per syllable as she possibly can, and her comparatively spare, hip-hop-inspired delivery is what pushes the song forward (the instrumental backing is primarily a beat and just a few simple piano chords).

"We just went back and forth with concepts for the beat and melodic ideas, which I didn't expect from Jermaine, because usually I'm the one that dictates the entire melody," Carey said. "But he had some really great ideas."

The rest of the song is classic heartbreak. For the second verse, Mariah said she and Jermaine "had a pow-wow," trying to figure out what it makes certain songs so special, how they "just hit you, and you're like, 'Oh, man!' You know?"

They came up with Bobby Womack's "If You Think You're Lonely Now" and Babyface's "Two Occasions," which Carey quotes in "We Belong Together" as she flips across a radio dial: "I gotta change the station/ So I turn the dial, tryin' to catch a break/ And then I hear Babyface/ I only think of you and it's breaking my heart/ I'm trying to keep it together but I'm falling apart."

Carey reverses the melancholy at the end with vocal lifts that imply she's bound to get her heart's desire anyway, through sheer determination.

Kind of like the way she's revived her career.

"It's like, damn, two years ago she was the craziest person in the funny farm, and that [image] don't even exist no more," Dupri said. "And she never got nominated this many times when she was the Mariah of old. It felt like the rebirth of the person you know as Mariah Carey." "I am so grateful I went to Atlanta," Carey said. "And I have to say, we wrote some of my favorite songs on the album. I'm so proud of Jermaine — he's so focused, and he knew what had to be done.

"You can never write off talent," she added. Especially not her own. .

Grammy Preview: And the Winner Is . . .
Our experts weigh in on music's big night
We assembled an A-list panel of experts -- rock stars, hitmaking producers, top execs -- to give you the inside line on the major races. Impress your friends with your killer Grammy knowledge!
Album of the Year (1 person out of 8 gives Mariah as winner)
Polly Anthony (President, Geffen Records): Mariah. The album is beautifully written and incredibly produced -- it feels like Grammy-Grammy-Grammy to me.
Will Win: The Emancipation of Mimi, Mariah Carey
Should Win: Late Registration, Kanye West
Record of the Year (3 persons out of 9 give Mariah as winner)
Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy bassist and songwriter, nominee for Best New Artist): I personally got down with Green Day a little more, but I think Mariah came up with a record that was awesome.
Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson (The Roots drummer and songwriter, winner of 1999 Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group): It'd be interesting to see how the Gorillaz would go up and accept that award -- they're not human. But it's going to go to Mariah.
Polly Anthony (President, Geffen Records): I'm going to be boring here -- Mariah. The girl is going to have the night of her life. She should get a lot of rest the few days before, because she isn't going to sleep much that night.
Will Win: "We Belong Together," Mariah Carey
Should Win: "Gold Digger," Kanye West
Best R&B Song (1 person out of 3 gives Mariah as winner)
John Norris (MTV host and VJ): This is gonna come down to Mariah vs. John Legend. "We Belong Together" was so inescapable for so much of the year, I'll go with that one.
Will Win: "We Belong Together," Mariah Carey
Should Win: "Ordinary People," John Legend

Q & A about the Grammy's
Among all the nominees Ciara is the only one who gave a shoutout to Mariah, not even Missy and John Legend
showed her love....
Ciara
Who, besides you, do you think deserves to win this year?
- It will be big for Mariah this time around. She's such an amazing talent. It's great for her to be able to reinvent herself.
Who would you most like to perform with at the Grammys?
- Mariah and Missy. And I want to do something with U2. I met Bono, and he's such a cool guy.
What song from 2005 do you wish you wrote?
- I wish I would have written [Carey's] "We Belong Together," Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone," Gwen's "Hollaback Girl" and Kanye's "Gold Digger." Those are some really good records.
And now Kanye's quote:
I think a lot of people are gonna get behind Mariah because of the comeback story. Not to discredit her at all, but I think I deserve it over her, because "Gold Digger" sounds like nothing you've heard before. "Diamonds [From Sierra Leone]" doesn't sound like something you've heard before. And I stand by that statement, and I'm gonna say that to the end. And statements like that could be the very reason why she possibly could win over me. The thing that we tried to do with this album -- we weren't trying to just make good records, we were really trying to push the envelope and change music.

Please help Jonnathan
Jonnathan, a great Mariah fan, has a song currently played on American Idol's Internet Radio Station. The song with highest ratings at the end of the month will be entered in a contest and be judged by a celebrity panel.  Mariah herself told him to "keep singing", please go listen to his song, and if you like it, give it a good rate.
So far he already got kudos for the song from the ex-president of Michael Jackson's ATV label, Mr. Kawashima. So now, he just needs you to help a little.

Exclusive: My vision of Mariah's performance at the Grammy's, that's an exclusive
If the rumors of Mariah singing "Fly Like A Bird" at the Grammy's are true, here's my setup:
Mariah sings "Fly Like A Bird" Gospel way with the Church Choir... AND... near to the end Kanye arrives singing "Jesus Walk" dressed like Jesus like on the new cover of the Rolling Stone magazine, after that they throw their clothes/dress away (wearing another ensemble under of course ) and they start a duet of "Stay The Night", the audience becomes insane and they start "We Belong Together" with Kanye and the Choir, joined at the last minute by Juelz Santana.  I know it's three songs, but it would be a medley, WOW  so cool AND they could release that medley as a single, WOOOOOOW again  I know I got carried away...

Press Release
Superstar Mariah Carey to clean up at this year's Grammy Awards according to 4th Annual VH1 Grammy Poll
Mariah Carey needs to make room in her trophy case for more awards from her comeback of the millennium, according to the results from VH1's 4th annual GRAMMY Awards poll.

Adult respondents in VH1's fourth annual poll single out the songbird's CD "The Emancipation of Mimi" as most likely to win Album of the Year and her international hit "We Belong Together" most likely to win Song of the Year. The single also tied in the poll for Record of the Year with Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams."

To top off Mariah's near-sweep in the VH1 poll, a majority of the respondents crowned her as the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance nominee they would personally like to take singing lessons from.

VH1 commissioned a telephone poll of a random national sample of 529 men and women between the ages of 18-49 who were asked who they, personally, thought would win Record, Album, Song, and Best New Artist of the Year.
Other intriguing poll highlights include: Kanye West's "Late Registration" finished a close #2 in the Album of the Year category behind Mariah. Best new artist in the poll went to Ciara, who made a splash this year for her first album/single "Goodies."

"Without a doubt Mariah Carey's huge comeback was the big music story of 2005 and continues into this year. With more than five million album copies sold to date and numerous awards already won, the results of our GRAMMY poll reflect the public's love for Mariah," said Rick Krim, EVP, Talent and Music Programming, VH1. "We'll have to wait and see if the music industry will give her the credit that her fans already have."

What Mariah will sing at the Grammy's
If it's true, it will be the first time in the music industry, a church representative leaks confidential infos
A Brazilian fan called Larah recently e-mailed the True Worship Church, famous for being the one Mariah frequents when she's in NYC, and apparently got the infos about Mariah's performance at the Grammy's.
I can actually not believe the lack of respect of Mariah's private life at a point some people even e-mail the church she frequents, I can't even believe the church representative gives out so many private infos about Mariah and her faith in his e-mail, and third and not least, that some people posts the entire e-mail on message boards.
In my opinion, it's not the right thing to do, I must be an alien in this strange world.....

Mariah's gown of choice
Finally, the secret is out.
Mariah Carey wore a skintight B&W satin Chanel gown to the Golden Globe Awards that had been designed and fitted on the sexy songbird in Paris by the house’s esteemed head, Karl Lagerfeld.
But it turns out that the Chanel frock became Carey's much-needed backup, not the award-winning songbird’s first GOC (gown of choice).
Curvy Carey had really wanted to wear an Escada gown also specially made for her. But the gorgeous gown didn’t arrive in time for her to wriggle into it and then wiggle to the Globes.
Seems the Escada gown was stuck in DHL hell, according to Brian Rennie, Escada’s design director, who let the news slip to a West Coast fashion editor last week. Rennie, Escada’s Munich-based head design dude, was in Los Angeles last week to show stars his Oscar-worthy gowns, including a $50,000 one-of-a-kind creation inspired by Monet’s famous water lily painting.
So now we know the real reason why Chanel’s Globes press release (naming actresses in Chanel) didn’t include Carey. They were as surprised as Escada was disappointed.
No word on what the late arrival Escada looks like. No inside news on color or print. But rest assured, the Escada gown will be worn, say my inside sources. By Mariah? Duh. Otherwise, the alterations would be a nightmare. Maybe at the Grammys? It’s possible.
This late dress dilemma happens more often than we know. Earlier this season, Scarlett Johansson’s gown for her London “Match Point” premiere reportedly arrived late. So she ended up in a less-than-stellar plaid Dolce & Gabbana shift.
We asked an L.A. PR agency insider why designer gowns are delayed. Is customs scanning the designs for smart bombs, checking for anthrax in the crinoline?
Not quite. It's basically a crapshoot.
“It all depends on how you ship it,” says the insider. “And on who fills out the mailing and customs forms, the weekend, the timing, maybe the weather. It should only take two days but sometimes it's longer. And it’s a nightmare when a dress, shoes or jewelry is late.”
Just ask Carey.
Escada's Rennie definitely got a taste of awards season pressure. “This has turned into a cutthroat business...I've heard stories of stylists being bribed, last minute nightmares and changes,” he said in a TV taping last week.
Yeah, welcome to our world.
Rennie believes he can make awards dressing simpler and less stressful for everyone involved.
“It should be a night to make women feel great. We want to make it easy to dress for these important nights. And I'm here this week to build relationships in a relaxed, easy way and to have time to develop a dress.”
And hopefully to find a faster international mail system!

Blue over Blackberry gals
Vogue editor-at-large Andre Leon Talley is putting his enormous foot down when it comes to the "CrackBerry" addictions of his friends Mariah Carey and Naomi Campbell. Talley complains in February's Vogue that his glamorous gal pals are constantly tapping away on their BlackBerrys, even while dining at fancy restaurants. Detailing a trip to Russia with Campbell and Marc Jacobs in his column, Talley writes, "On this trip, the only out-of-control Naomi Campbell behavior I witnessed was compulsive BlackBerrying. Personally, I find this new BlackBerry culture annoying to the point of exasperation. On several occasions, I have observed other iconic personalities, such as Mariah Carey, forget that while at a formal dinner it is not exactly good manners to drop the BlackBerry into your lap and start e-mailing." Informed of Talley's tsk-tsk-ing, Carey's manager, Benny Medina, told PAGE SIX, "The utilization of this technology is commonplace and it's unusual that he would actually feel the need to single her out. They were just speaking over the phone last week about outfits for the Grammys and stuff . . . I'm sure Andre didn't mean any harm."

Heroes comment: Andre, c'mon mate, it's not that bad ... oh, speaking of Blackberry, it will maybe be shutted down due to patent-infringement, so everyone could go back to cellphones, is it better?

Jasmine's Juice
Readers. I’m feeling-knackered and pugnacious. All the frivolities and travelling has whacked me out! I feel as if I could sleep for a month!

Hopefully next week I will be reborn. It’s not as if it’s a surprise I’m tired. My birthday was 48 hours long!

Let me explain. It began at the end of my Anguillan vacation when we took off to fly back to New York. Then we arrived at Mariah’s NYC apartment at 3am on the morning of my birthday.

I told you last week about us flashing MC’s doormen in our fake fur coats and bikinis – but what I didn’t know was what was awaiting me upstairs in MC’s crib.

As we entered, I threw myself onto my bed with exhaustion-in her guest room (the butterfly room) and was just about to don my PJ’s when MC announced she needed to borrow my camera for a “business meeting” in her kitchen.

What?!? I know I look young readers but I wasn’t born yesterday! Like good ole Jackson P Mutley (MC’s doggy) I can sniff a tall story when I hear one. I knew those Careys were up to something but like a good little English girl I played along.

As expected, two minutes later someone beckoned me ‘into the kitchen immediately!’ I felt like I should stall but no - it was now 4am and I knew they must really LOVE me to be this exhausted and without sleep for 2 days and still be making my moment festive. As I walked “innocently” into the kitchen, MC and a few of our nearest and dearest showered me with champagne.

I exclaimed “stop wasting the grape - it’s expensive!” MC et al sung for me and danced around me as I blew out my silver-studded twinkle candles and cut into my Oreo cake. I was given a beautiful and thoughtful gift then we chatted about our blessed year and laughed about the “Jack incident”. Let me explain.
Our last moment in Anguilla was hilarious. MC had a photo session scheduled with a famous British photographer on our private beach.-Alas, a multitude of-other paparazzi had somehow heard and were camped out and wouldn’t budge.

Apparently, when they spotted me running along the beach earlier in the day with Jack they knew MC was nearby as they recognised the dog! How crazy is that?! We concocted a cunning plan!

MC, her security and the photographer would escape-into a jeep and sneak off to a nearby beach whilst I (the DECOY)-would wander casually down to our beach with Jack and- some of the staff fully laden down with “Diva Accessories” like a bottle of Cristal and glasses, a pillow and silk sheet, iPod, sun lotions, silver trays full of seafood, Jimmy Choo shoes, etc, pretending MC-was about to appear.

As I gestured wildly at the “position of the sun” and announced at the top of my voice “her favourite position”, I saw the paps looking excited and readying their lenses.

All the while I am practically wetting myself as I continue my Oscar-winning, Meryl Streep performance and-slyly peek MC being smuggled out the back door! MC’s photo shoot just up the road took 10 minutes and she was back in 20 hollering at me that “it was safe” to come back.

The stupid photographers watched the sun set and continued to wait eagerly till 9pm when it was pitch black, then-they wandered over to “MC’s sun lounger” to find a lovely little note I’d left them with the champers which said “enjoy the drink suckers!!!” Oh, how we laughed.

"Get Your Number" in Belgium
The airplay charts are just incredible, when everyone expected the track to fall, it climbs again, and the most incredible happened today, on Radio Contact Eupen for the South part of Belgium, "Get Your Number" entered the Top 5, which is great, 'cause it's very difficult to enter that chart, as it's only a Top 5. And on Fun Radio (French speaking part of Belgium), in the "Chart Soul Station" the track is 4
- Radio Contact Eupen Top 5 - 5

Heroes note: You never know what may happen until the release, look at N.O.R.E's "1fan a day", I'm really looking forward to hear this new collab, all the collabs Mariah made with rappers are really dope, but let's hope the whole "Stop Snitchin, Stop Lyin" adventure isn't repeated with that track, the 50 and Game beef goes on. Ask and you will receive
Honey and Kate from Butterflies Are Free did a quick and good job with the translation of the Sueddeutshe Zeitung Magazine.  Here's what they write.
"100 QUESTIONS TO MARIAH CAREY
That is the title of a new Mariah interview with the 'Sueddeutsche Zeitung'. As the title reveals, Mariah has been asked 100 questions during the 30 minute interview that was done in Munich in December 2005. If you understand German, you can read the full interview on Süddeutsche.de. For those of you who don't speak German, you might wanna read the translation we did here. As the interview is extremly long, we've only been able to translate the first half so far, the next 50 questions will follow tomorrow. And even though the remarks by the SZ are pretty snappy at times, you should definetely check it out as it reveals some new and interesting facts and lets us know about the wrong image of stretch limos and the new possible use of diamond rings for example. Enjoy!."
Go to their site to read it.  Thanks girls, you rock!!!!!

Mariah's so nifty
Mariah Carey is following in the footsteps of J-Lo and Britney Spears by launching her own perfume.
The singer, who's up for eight Grammy awards next month, will unveil the fragrance in December and wants designer Karl Lagerfeld to kit her out for the advertising campaign.
A source says: "Mariah is so excited about the scent and it will be based on white flowers. She wants Karl to design a dress that fits in all the right places."
That girl always comes up smelling of roses...

Tour or not Tour, that's the question
This year, major tours sold poorly and Clear Channel Entertainment, the world's biggest promoter, promised to reduce facility fees and pressure artists to reduce their upfront payments.
The big test may come this year, when the Stones and U2 won't be around to bail out promoters. Billy Joel, Eric Clapton, the Who, Coldplay and Radiohead will hit the road, and Mariah Carey, Madonna, Prince, Metallica and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are all maybes.

If Left to U.S. Teens, Mariah Carey and Green Day Would Take Top Honors at 2006 GRAMMYs, According to Annual Harris Interactive Survey
If U.S. teens could decide, the 48th Annual GRAMMY® Awards would result in a return of former chart-toppers, according to a new Harris Interactive® survey. Teens gave the nod to the alternative group Green Day's comeback, picking the single "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" as Record of the Year. Also back on the rise, Mariah Carey was chosen by teens for the Song of the Year with "We Belong Together". Fall Out Boy was teens' pick for the Best New Artist award.
The Harris Interactive YouthQuery(SM) omnibus of 1,092 U.S. teens, aged 13 to 18, was conducted online from December 14 to 20, 2005.

Jasmine's Juice

Anguilla is a vacation spot for the overly wealthy and the seriously beautiful! There was me, Mariah, a few of her nearest and dearest. A huge white mansion on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean, a private beach, 12 staff looking after 10 of us and much, sun, fun and bronzed bums.

DAY ONE: Jermaine Dupri pops over to celebrate Mariah’s 17th No.1 (only beaten by the Beatles – this is history!) and to congratulate her on beating 50 Cent for the album of the year sales-wise. MC and JD drew the number “17” in the white sand on our private beach as we all sipped a couple of dozen rum punches and gazed at the starlit sky.

DAY TWO: MC invited a reggae band to come over and play for us at our BBQ as we ate crayfish, sweetcorn, BBQ chicken, ribs and garlic bread. We then had a dance off. MC's choreographer and friend Rachel flipped upside down and did a handstand on a pole to ‘wind her booty down’ and showed the locals she may be a Yankee but her roots are strong. Then, to the locals’ delight, MC and her two friends/singers Maryann and the Grammy-nominated Trey Lorenz and I took the mic to sing MC's songs in a “reggae style". (Pass the Duchie was my particular speciality!)

DAY THREE: We wanted to learn how to surf, so three instructors sailed over in their boats but alas, when they turned up we found they were teaching us to windsurf! MC gave it a go but when we saw how violently the sail falls we convinced her to sit back, relax and watch us attempt it instead. I think I was pretty good considering it was my first attempt – and I would’ve been even better if MC's security man, Rob, didn't keep trying to foil me by yelling ‘SPLASH’. Did I tell you all I can do more leg throw-downs than him in the gym. Hee hee! After getting up on the board a few times and going way too fast for my liking and bailing ship, we returned to our house pool which is heated at all times for a military-style water work with MC's French trainer and nutrionist Patricia. Yep - she kills us but look at MC's abs - its worth the pain.

DAY FOUR: We had mucho fun riding the waves on the banana boat and ring dinghies. I made MC sit at the back of the banana as that's where it’s the scariest and most bumpy - well she is the bravest, so why not? That night we had another beach BBQ and bonfire and the moon was actually smiling at us, or was that the rum punch?

DAY FIVE: We went bareback horseriding on sable-brown stallions in the sunset and were left free to run the horses around the island. My horse was freaking from the second I stepped onto his back and wanted to take his own journey regardless of my whoopin’ and kicking - we think he was on some kinda herbal crack! I'm not gonna front, I was shook. MC wanted to “gallop faster" all the time and I was like: “I'll see you later ma!"

DAY SIX: Snorkelled. It was a great day full of sunshine and pool frolicking. I couldn't have been more relaxed. Then my hair went green. Well, if we're gonna get technical, lime. I called my hair dresser Julian (even though it was 1am in London). He chuckled: “you've been oxidised by the chlorine." Luckily for me, MC (who once went to beauty school) had a batch of lotions and potions by Artec Sunflower - and soon my hair was neutralised into a slightly less crazy witch colour.

DAY SIX: Thankfully my hair wasn't bad enough to freak out the dolphins which we had been waiting all week to play with. We kissed, clapped, danced, sang and did tricks with the five beautiful creatures including swimming with us on their bellies. One of the dolphins was called Bianca and as MC's fans will know, Bianca is not our favourite person so we were slightly freaked out. But, by the end, MC and Bianca were swimming off into the sunset, so all was peace and harmony as it should be at the start of the year.

Then we were told it was time for “wheels up in an hour” (celeb speak for ‘planes jetting'), so we threw long (fake) fur coats over our bikinis, jumped into a jeep which deposited us to a private Anguillan airfield to MC’s G5 jet and arrived back in MC's home town of NYC by sunrise the next day.

Much shrieking ensued as we flashed MC's apartment doormen in our bikinis and cosied ourselves up at the end of our vacation in her fabulous crib. What a way to start 2006!

Keep an eye open, or better the 2

Fur flies between Mary J. Blige and PETA
The fur is flying between Mary J. Blige and PETA.
The R&B singer showed up for an interview with the London Mirror wearing a full-length fur.
“I got it from Roberto Cavalli, so it’s some kind of fur,” she told the paper. “But those PETA people don’t want to mess with me, they don’t want to throw paint on my coat because it’s not just gonna be throwing paint.  . . . Understand what I’m saying?”
“If Mary J. Blige would only find the courage to educate herself about the cruelty behind fur, we’re sure she would follow the lead of PETA pal Mariah Carey who, after receiving two pricey fur coats as gifts recently, re-sealed the box and sent them on to PETA for use in educational displays about fur cruelty,” a PETA rep told The Scoop. “Mary should also check in with Roberto Cavalli’s number one fan, Victoria Beckham, who has Cavalli re-make all of his furry designs into fabulous faux fur because she abhors the ‘real thing.’”

S'il devait y avoir des changements dans le planning, je vous tiendrai informé.

Mariah at the Brit Awards?
The Daily Record reports: The singer is enjoying a massive career comeback - and looking better than ever.
Mariah, 35, has toned up on a morsel diet - eating only tiny pieces of the food she likes.
And on holiday in the Caribbean this week, the tiny theme extended to her swimwear.
But she'll have to cover up a bit for the Brit Awards in chilly London next month.
Heroes note: Only important note: "But she'll have to cover up a bit for the Brit Awards in chilly London next month.".  Mariah is nominated in the "International Female Solo Artist" category and the ceremony will be held in London, Earls Court 1, Wednesday 15th February 2006.

Jasmine's Juice

Happy New Year readers... it’s a double celebration as today it’s my birthday and as you read this I am also flying back from a sun-drenched tropical New Year on the Caribbean island of Anguilla with Mariah and her family.
I’ll tell you more about that next week, but first, listen to my Christmas shenanigans!

More jollification than ever occurred this Xmas in Aspen with the Carey family. By now you all know that Mariah and I are voluptuaries – life can never be glamorous or fabulous enough!
MC, a few of her family, a couple of friends, Jack the Wonderdog and myself spent a snowy festive week in the mountains where we had our usual fun with horse-sleigh rides in the moonlight, drinking hot cocoa or champagne (depending on age), skiing, snow boarding, rolling in the snow in our bikinis, jumping into the hot tub, and generally just being thankful that we have blessed lives.
Other celebs I spotted in Aspen were Jack Nicholson, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones , J-Lo, Mischa Barton, and Kate Moss who was... umm... let’s just say... was having a party among the head-to-toe fur-clad folks!
I would hit the local spa every morning with MC’s security guy Rob, who had me boxing and I had him doing yoga – funny! Each morning without fail, Will Smith would be there pumping weights or running on the treadmill. Yes, the gym is extra fun when you’ve got a great view!
One morning I tried a “hoopdance” class but midway spotted Will and his son watching, highly amused, which was unnerving. I told MC’s brother about it at the end who informed me “that’s not Will’s son – that’s his wife ,Jada!” Oops!

One afternoon, MC decided to visit a local children’s charity to donate stuff to them and take them skating. Not being the best ice skater, I walked around the rink with Jack the Wonderdog instead.
The next night, Xmas eve, we went on our usual annual open horse sleigh ride – and with the deer galloping around us in the twinkling moonlight, it was truly magical.
The funniest thing was that although MC had nine huge cases full of clothes, coats, sexy ski suits, etc, someone had forgotten to pack her any socks, hats or gloves!
So she had plenty of diamonds but no warm necessities. So we had to lend superstar diva Mariah Carey a pair of our socks! What a life eh? Bikinis and crystal bottles are packed by the dozen, but no socks for the cold!

We had a slightly tense moment on Xmas day when the little person in the family asked how Santa had climbed down the chimney when the fireplace was burning all night? Oh… um.... yeah, we switched the subject up quick!
On Xmas morning, MC had placed personalised T-shirts on all our pillows with our own slogans to wear for the day. Mine was ‘Xmas diva’. You know something’s up when the world’s most renowned diva calls me one, right!

The extravagance in Aspen never fails to stun me. Free champers as you shop, heated pavements so the snow doesn’t settle, 4WDs everywhere and this year, Santa Claus overwhelmed me with his gifts too.
I received (among other things) a Dior ring engraved with my nickname, matching sexy Dolce and Gabbana high mules and bag, real pearl jewellery, a cashmere sweater, gloves, hat and scarf, a leather passport holder, an iPod, a sheepskin hat, the usual lotions and potions, a very plush fake chinchilla jacket from Patrick Kevin (Mariah had a matching one which she loved), a gigantic goodie bag from Adidas which included lots of pink stuff that both MC and I rocked all over the slopes (and had all the posh rich Aspenites asking me about. ‘Cos on Wednesdays we only wear pink – you gotta watch Mean Girls to know!)

Then on December 28, we all flew back to Mariah’s home in New York on her jet and had a couple of festive days in NYC where we opened more gifts, read from the Bible, watched films in her private cinema and ate fresh popcorn from her popcorn machine.
One night I was lucky enough to accompany MC to the studio where she put down new vocals on a remix with Jadakiss and Styles P. Much fun was had ‘til 6am before MC had to get ready for her New Year’s Eve performance at midnight in Times Square.

Readers, I got to tell you, being onstage with MC while she stunned the world at midnight in her show-stopping outfit and princess gown was a moment in history! After her show, MC hosted her own party at Ciprianis where we hung with DJ Clue and others before ending the night at Bungalow 8 with a huge slice of New York pizza. What a way to bring in 2006! On New Year’s Day we flew to Anguilla – but that’s all for next week.

Inside Globe presenters’ goodie bags
What will Leonardo Dicaprio, Mariah Carey and other presenters at this Monday’s Golden Globe Awards find when they peek into their goodie bags?
For starters, how about a certificate for a $22,000 expedition to see the wildlife of the arctic on a cozy 54-cabin ship? For two weeks, Leonardo, Mariah, Harrison Ford, Tobey Maguire, Gwyneth Paltrow and dozens of others -- if and when they use this certificate -- will take a cruise to New Zealand, Antarctica and Tasmania. The adventure, arranged by Quark Expeditions, includes airfare for two to, and hotel accommodations in Argentina, where the journey begins.
The presenters will get their own engraved Canadian diamond set in a pendant. If the stone is too tiny, there’s the sweepstakes where the prize is a Paul Hardy necklace valued at $5,000.
All presenters get a $2,000 diamond ring, courtesy of Chopard.

I'm not even gonna give publicity for their sites, but the guys who insulted Mariah by posting a fake DVD cover made by a person who apparently has no life, made now another comment and admit Mariah is hot by posting the St Barth. pic.
In my opinion, they were lucky enough to not being sued, but at least they admit they were wrong, so should do some fans.

Do you remember Oliver Pocher ?
I'm sure a lot of us remember the guy who humiliated Mariah with his stupid jokes on the "Wetten dass..?" show back in July in Germany.  I remember the crusade we did against the dude to obtain apologies .
Anywayz, the guy's hobby is apparently to humiliate people and even if some people find him funny, this time he needs to pay 6000 Euro ($7300 US) damages to a young woman, 'cause he laughed at her physical appearance recommending a cosmetic surgery.
Well done, let's hope every person Mister Pocher humiliates will file a complain!!!!!

Mariah taking part in "We Are Family" benefit single?
Two days ago, I told you the Katrina benefit single that Michael Jackson has planned back in September was still in "the works", today there's other news about a benefit single, LA Daily News  and San Bernardino Sun report:
"Grammy-winning producer Rodney Jerkins declares his mission in 2006 is to make sure the victims of Hurricane Katrina are not forgotten - with a star-studded fundraising redux of the classic 1979 Sister Sledge hit "We Are Family."
"It's not over," reminds Jerkins. "People still don't have homes, people still don't have clothes, and I feel it's our obligation as people to help, and I'm being one of the ones to initiate it by doing a song that's gonna raise a lot of money for these people." Jerkins says once word got out about the tribute song, his phone started ringing off the hook. "Brandy called and said, 'Why is my brother (Ray J) on it and I'm not on it?' We were only going to do about eight artists, but it's probably going to be about 15 artists by the time it's done. We've got the Sledge Sisters, Mary Mary, Ray J, Ciara, Bebe Winans." And, of course, Jerkins says he couldn't say no to two of his favorite superstars to work with, Mariah Carey and Mary J. Blige. "We were supposed to finish the song by the end of December, but Mariah's people called and said she couldn't do it till this month, so I said I'm waiting for Mariah - and I gotta wait for Mary. But this will be the last month, and we're going to get it out."

Young, Rich and Dangerous
Jermaine Dupri Dishes on Janet Jackson, Mariah, Usher and More
Hip-hop artist Jermaine Dupri has written a memoir  and it is tentatively called Young, Rich and Dangerous, also the title of a 1996 Kris Kross album that Dupri produced.
The book tells of working as a Grammy-nominated producer and rapper with artists like Mariah Carey, Usher and Bow Wow. Dupri, who is currently working with longtime girlfriend Janet Jackson on her upcoming album, set to be released in 2006, will also discuss his relationship with Jackson in the book.
Dupri, who also owns Café Dupri in his hometown of Atlanta, is shopping the book to publishers this week.

Foot fault
Ok, we weren't that surprised to catch grunge queen Courtney Love walking barefoot, flip-flops in hand, on the streets of LA. So hygienic.
But normally-stylish Uma Thurman must have forgotten to take a change of clothes - and shoes - when she stayed over at boyfriend Andre Balazs' house in New York.
She left the apartment on Sunday morning in her pyjamas, moccasins and a fur coat.
Thank goodness, then, for Mariah Carey. She lived right up to her super-sexy reputation, sporting a pair of towering pink stilettos and a teeny-tiny denim skirt on the beach while on holiday in the Caribbean.
But she did have a big hunky bodyguard to catch her...

Mariah 'gun-shy' about marriage
Mariah Carey's "pretty gun-shy" about ever getting married again, but that's not just because of her failed marriage to music mogul Tommy Mottola. The singer tells Good Housekeeping for its February issue that her parents'divorce still affects her. "I always said when I was little that I was never going to get married," she told the mag, "but then I was always the girl who didn't understand why people would live together. 'If they're living together, then why don't they get married?' I'm actually sort of a prude like that, I guess." Carey, who fought rumors last month that she had gotten engaged to her boyfriend, tells the mag she would only consider getting married again if she knew she was starting a family, and she's not too sure that should be her goal. "I mean, to me, if you're getting married, it's about having kids," she said. "Still, I worry sometimes about having kids when you're really famous, because the kids aren't asking to be brought into this world as famous people." She reserves the right to change her mind, though. "I can't even predict the next 10 minutes, let alone the next 10 years!" ...

"All HipHop" a very great HipHop site gives his 2005 review
Best R&B Artist
- #1 - Mariah Carey– Mariah showed us her fire in 2005, a whopping 15 years after her solo debut album dropped. Not only did she come with pure heat on her songs and videos, at 35-years-old she looks better than ever and still sounds like an angel. The beauty of Mariah’s success this time around is that she didn’t have to say much to prove her point – she just did the damn thing.
Best R&B Album
- #1 - Mariah Carey The Emancipation of Mimi (Island) - It’s okay to admit you giggled when you heard the title. Who was Mimi, and what was the emancipation all about? Despite the initial raised eyebrows, Mariah came through with a collection of classic R&B songs that made even the harshest of critics swoon, and gave fans that raw soul that we loved her for from day one.
R&B Single of the Year
- #1 - Mariah Carey "We Belong Together" (Island) – Once again, Mariah’s magic touch grabbed at the heartstrings of listeners around the world with her 16th Number One career single. Written and produced by Mariah Carey, Jermaine Dupri, Manuel Seal, and Johnta Austin.
Alternative Video of the Year
- #4 - Mariah Carey "Shake It Off" (director Jake Nava)

Mariah's Up, So Where's Tommy?
Is the infamous, legendary, reviled, beloved, scorned and sometimes scary Tommy Mottola officially retired from the music business? Maybe not yet, but consider all of this:
His celebrated ex-wife, Mariah Carey, is in the middle of her biggest success. Her “Emancipation of Mimi” album has eight Grammy nominations and is just about to cross the 5 million copy mark. It’s also yielded two huge hits, “We Belong Together” and “Don’t Forget About Us,” and propelled Carey back to superstar status, from which she will not likely fall again.
All of this makes us wonder: What the heck ever happened to Mariah’s ex, her guru, the man who thinks he discovered her and made her a star?
“It must be driving him crazy that Mariah’s having so much success,” says a source. “After all, in the past he tried to kill her albums. But this one he couldn’t do anything about.”
The album he had a hand in destroying was “Glitter,” which was released on EMI after Mottola allegedly pilfered music and ideas from it and gave them to Jennifer Lopez to release earlier.
But Mariah is now with Universal, which means that no matter how much Mottola would like to see her fail, undermining the album would have meant undercutting himself at the same time.

Mariah Carey exclusive: Mariah reborn
By Caroline Hedley
As comebacks go, it is nothing short of spectacular. The former queen of pop had hit rock bottom with a clang - humiliatingly dropped by her record label and hospitalised after a nervous breakdown. But in 2005, Mariah Carey emerged triumphant to reclaim her crown.
Her current album, The Emancipation Of Mimi, sold 7.5 million copies, and with her latest single, Don't Forget About Us, she equalled Elvis Presley's record of 17 US No 1s - only The Beatles have had more.
The pop diva, worth £173million, also made a memorable appearance at last summer's Live 8 extravaganza in London.
And she capped off her remarkable year by welcoming in 2006 with an historic live performance in New York's Times Square.

"It's been pretty incredible," says 35-year-old Mariah, pouring the first of several glasses of pink champagne, as she curls her legs underneath her on a worn blue sofa in her suite at London's posh Claridge's Hotel.
"And the best thing about it is I've been successful by being me this time. Previously people have tried to control every aspect of my image and told me that I shouldn't sing this type of song and that I shouldn't dress too sexy. And you know what? I was right all along."

It's a remarkable turnaround for Mariah, who got a £16million pay-off from EMI in 2002 because they wanted to release her from a contract signed just one year earlier.
"I've learned now that I can't place too much importance on good reviews," she says.
"Much as I'd like to read something nice and be like, 'Ok, I've validated my existence', if someone writes something negative then I have to believe that. I have to stay oblivious, see some nice things and take in criticism when I think it's valid. That's the only way to keep a balance."

Someone said to be helping Mariah achieve that balance in her personal life is male model Christian Monzon.
They met during the filming of her Don't Forget About Us video, in which they writhe seminaked in a pool. Since then they have been spotted dining out near Mariah's home in Los Angeles.
Yet romance is one area of her life that she is a little uncomfortable discussing.
"Erm, how do we play this?" she says, averting her gaze and twirling a lock of hair around a French manicured finger.
"Ok, he's a very nice guy, he's been in a fabulous Dolce & Gabbana advert - did you see it? - and we've had some nice conversations and, um, a nice time.
"Ok, I'll say he definitely did a very good job in the video.
Anyway men tend to go off me when they find out I'm a prude.
"They either turn into my big brother or else they stop talking to me. Luckily, I have a lot of male friends who have gone way, way past that whole sexual thing."

She clearly feels on much safer territory recounting a night out with US rapper Cam'ron.
"We're always hanging out but we really are just friends," she insists. "Anyway, he turned up at my apartment one night in his blue Lamborghini. My security guys were really worried about me going with him, so they were just figuring out a way to follow us when Cam took off at 150mph down the street.
"They must have been freaking but we just took off, went out and had fun. I was like, 'You can't keep up with a Lamborghini! Goodbye!'
"I know they're only looking after my best interests, but the truth is I'm a free spirit."

Her old classmates back at school in New York would agree with that.
Mariah's nickname was Mirage because she hardly ever turned up to lessons. She left school at 16 and had a number of dead-end jobs before finally finding work as a backing singer.
She met Tommy Mottola - then head of Sony Records - at a party in 1988 and handed him a demo tape. He was so impressed he signed her to Sony with an eight-album deal.
He also left his wife and children for her. They got married in 1993 - when she was 23 and he was 44 - but got divorced five years later. These days Mariah won't even say his name.
At the time, she was one of the biggest names in pop. Her 1990 debut album, Mariah Carey, sold five million copies and spawned four US No.1s.
More albums followed, but after the breakdown of her marriage, cracks began to appear in her career.

Sony seemed less interested in her and she signed an illadvised record contract with EMI's Virgin Records. Meanwhile in her personal life she got entangled in a series of messy relationships - including one with Eminem.
Mariah hit rock bottom in July 2001. Bizarre, rambling messages on her website prompted speculation as to the state of her mental health. She wrote: "So basically, all I really wanna say is I don't know what's going on with life, and I hope all the fans are good, and I just want you to know I'm trying to understand things in life right now, and so I really don't feel that I should be doing music right now.
"What I'd like to do is take a little break, or at least get one night of sleep."
Days later Mariah was in hospital, under psychiatric care, suffering an emotional and physical breakdown.
The end of a romance with pop star Luis Miguel had, along with tough promotional rounds for her flop film Glitter and its accompanying album, proved the last straw for the fragile singer.
Her spell in hospital was short, but her reputation suffered and her next album, 2002's Charmbracelet, fared poorly.

Mariah's amazing comeback only began when she found a new manager and producer and signed with Island Records. Her incredibly successful The Emancipation Of Mimi album was the result.
One thing she has learned from her past troubles is to take life easy.
"I love my sleep," she says, "I'm so excited to get in bed, watch movies and eat. I joke that I require a bib 'cos I'm such a messy eater.
"At a restaurant people are looking at you so when I'm in private I eat like a two-yearold. I forget that I'm famous sometimes, so I'll be like, 'Why are those people staring at me?'"

Her relaxation also includes days of complete "vocal rest", prescribed by her throat doctor to preserve her unique five-octave range.
"For a few days before a performance I can't talk to anyone at all," she explains. "Friends will be like, 'Hey, we'll come over'. And I'll be like, 'No you don't understand. When I'm on vocal rest I don't do my hair, I'm in my pyjamas - I'm not ready to be seen!' And then they come over and I'm so tempted to talk. I end up writing notes to them and it's so tedious."

If one thing would make Mariah's life complete right now, it would be to finally move back into her lavish New York apartment, which was flooded last April.
"It's been soooo many months," she groans. "I've been on radio stations saying, 'If you're a builder please hurry up and finish'. I plan to get a hot tub on my roof terrace. Hopefully next summer it'll be the place to hang out, although I'm worried that my dog, Jack, will miss the space he had to run about in in LA.
"I adore him, he's so much fun. I still take him for walks 'cos he won't go with a dog walker. Although last time he decided to relieve himself in front of all the paparazzi."

As the Mirror revealed last year, Mariah is also planning a move to the UK.
"I'm thinking of buying a hotel in London," she says. "It would have the best nail and hair place for the girls and a separate salon for the guys. And the lighting would be fantastic - everyone would look a billion dollars!" Suite dreams indeed.

I’ll tell you all the exciting details next week when I’ve recovered from it all but for now I want to enlighten you on a moment I had just before I flew out to Aspen.

They will always surprise me
Some press and even some "fans" have of course something to say about the outfit Mariah was wearing to perform on New Year's Eve.  It was New Year's Eve, it was festive, people!!!!!  What did you expect???  Anywayz, what surprises me is that some people are making fun of Mariah's outfit 'cause it was not appropriate with the cold weather, but they probably forgot how brave Mariah is, remember Shanghai on November the 13th. 2003, nobody was laughing then, how strange....

Mariah raises temperatures in New York's Times Square
Soul diva Mariah Carey had the crowd eating out of her hand with a sizzling performance in the Big Apple's Times Square.
With her famous disregard for chilly temperatures, Mariah took to the stage in a barely-there Vegas-style costume. Life couldn't be sweeter for the 35-year-old star, who recently equalled Elvis' record for 17 no 1 hit singles in the US, and has also received a clutch of Grammy nominations.

Mariah Carey braves biting cold in flimsy gowns
Seems even icy temperatures are not enough to make singer Mariah Carey part with her flimsy gold lami gown, as even in the freezing cold of Aspen, the diva kept wearing her beloved next-to-nothing outfit.
“The Emancipation of Mimi” star, before returning to her hometown for New Year’s Eve, was spotted holidaying in Aspen along with Vogue editor Andre Leon Talley, where she wore her delicate gown, which was as thin as a tissue paper.
“Mariah pulls up in a flimsy gold lami gown that is as thin as tissue paper - and it’s freezing out! All I could say was ‘You do make an effort for your friends!’ “ New York Post quoted Talley, as saying.
However, before taking off in the sleigh ride with Talley, Carey made sure she wore her full-length over coat on top to ward off the icy winds.
Heroes note: Aaaahhhhh, no, not Andre again

Carey on the hunt for a permanent winter wonderland
Pop superstar Mariah Carey is looking to buy her own winter wonderland after her annual trip to Aspen, Colorado, was a snow disappointment.
The singer loves the sound of sleighbells and playing in the snow but a lack of the white stuff in the celebrity winter playground meant she had to cancel many of her Christmas frolics.
So now Carey's looking to buy a place where she can be guaranteed a white Christmas.
She explains, "We couldn't go tubing this year. I was very upset. I'm going to have to buy some land where there's a hill so I can go sledding down the hill because I'm eternally eight years old."

Mariah in Paris on January the 20th?
It seems Mariah is scheduled to attend an exceptional taping of the French TV show "Hit Machine" on January the 20th.
Even if the producers of the show announce Mariah will be there, it needs to be officially confirmed.  But, it makes sense as Mariah will be in Cannes on January the 21st. for the NRJ Music Awards 2006.
You can now book free tickets for the taping of the show here.

Mariah during Dick Clark's annual "New Year's Rockin' Eve" show and at Cipriani

New Year's Eve tidbits
- Mariah didn't disappoint her fans, she signed stuffs on Time Square, 8 year old Nicole Boritz reports: "I got Mariah Carey's autograph and told her I love her".
- On another side, it seems the party at Cipriani was messed up for several fans 'cause of a lot of freaks who kept pushing and succeeded to enter in the VIP area, people at Cipriani completly lost control, however Mariah stayed at the party more than 1 hour long, enjoying and singing along to some songs.
- It was rumored yesterday that Mariah would sing Don't Forget About Us remix and her next single, but we all know now what Mariah sang, rumors will always stay rumors, even in 2006.
- Some forums and messageboards will not change either in 2006, some fans critizise as usual Mariah's performances, her outfit and her look, obviously some people have nothing else to do and don't even know what they are talking about.  It was very cold for her voice, some pictures you see are very bad shoots, huh.... why do I feel the need to explain, some people will never get it
Enjoy people, enjoy!!!!!!!
