Mariah fires her agents
R B diva Mariah Carey has parted company with her agents at William Morris - just weeks after firing long term spokeswoman Cindi Berger. The Charmbracelet singer, 34, has been with the prestigious company since 1998 but reportedly blames them for her inability to break into Hollywood films. Sources close to Mariah say she's also furious with the company after losing millions of dollars on a flop world tour last year (03). But a William Morris spokesperson tells the New York Daily News: "While we're confused as to the reasons for her decision, we wish her well." Mariah's manager Benny Medina - the svengali behind J.Lo's career - retorts, "She has the right to examine where she'd like to go, and who best can guide her." Mariah's 'You're fireds'
Mariah Carey is washing her hands of some more handlers. Having recently fired her longtime spokeswoman, Cindi Berger, the diva has now axed her agents at William Morris. A spokesman for the talent agency, which has represented her since 1998, tells us: "While we're confused as to the reasons for her decision, we wish her well." Insiders say Carey blamed her Morris team for not finding her the movie roles that have been slow in coming since her 2001 flop, "Glitter." She is also said to have held the agency responsible for her disappointing world concert tour, which lost several million dollars. Carey's manager, Benny Medina, says, "She has the right to examine where she'd like to go, and who best can guide her." Source: New York Daily News (All rights reserved) Posted on May the 31st. |
Some celebs may recoil as watchdog group rates
their charity spending
By Bill Zwecker One of the best things stars can do with their celebrity is to use that fame to bring attention to worthy causes, but a new national study by a charity watchdog group will likely embarrass a number of famous folks -- including Robin Williams, Jessica Simpson, Steven Spielberg and Christopher Reeve. The Charity Navigator investigation again has highlighted an issue plaguing not-for-profits in the past: spending way too much on the process of fund-raising and administration. Looking at tax returns for 2003, Charity Navigator rates groups from zero to five stars, with zero, of course, being the worst. Spielberg's high-profile Shoah Visual History Foundation, which preserves memories of the Holocaust, rated only one star, due to spending 30 cents of every dollar on administration -- three times the industry average. On top of that, the Shoah Foundation posted a $6 million loss in 2003. Williams is a big booster of the Gorilla Foundation -- he's even made a series of TV public-service spots. That organization spent 45 percent of every dollar raised on fund-raising. "Everybody would like to save the gorillas, but not to pay for other fund-raisers," Charity Navigator executive director Trent Stamp told the New York Post. Pop star and reality TV dim bulb Simpson has a champion smile, but Operation Smile -- her fave charity, which provides reconstructive surgery to disfigured Third World children -- also scored only one star for spending 30 percent of its income on fund-raising. Reeve's foundation, which researches paralysis issues, and former President Jimmy Carter's Habitat for Humanity didn't fare much better. Those charities' budgets only scored two stars on the five-star scale. Not all celebrity-driven groups were squandering their cash. Among those rating high on Charity Navigator's list were Lance Armstrong's cancer-fighting foundation, a similar group strongly supported by Bill Cosby (the V Foundation), Muhammad Ali's Parkinson's Disease Association, Mariah Carey's Fresh Air Fund, first lady Laura Bush's National Childhood Cancer Foundation, Nelson Mandela's Africare and the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation, which Jerry Lewis annually boosts each Labor Day weekend. ENT. WEEKLY on how Mariah can revive her career
In the ASK THE CRITIC (with notorious Mariah detractor David Browne being the critic) column in the music section of the latest Entertainment Weekly, someone asked a question about Mariah: Any tips on how to revive Mariah Carey's career? - Tophe Azzo How about doing something, anything, different? When Carey left Sony for Def Jam two years ago, everyone assumed her R&B side would be beefed up. Instead, Charmbracelet was more of the same. Carey should unleash her inner disco diva by working with producers and writers who could supply her with great songs, as opposed to melodic mush meant to showcase her melisma. (Why not consider one of Madonna's recent, techno-drenched collaborators?) More elegant threads wouldn't hurt either. Source: Entertainment Weekly - MisplacedValidity at FOMM. with Mariah for her next album
Until now, several names were mentioned in several articles, interviews, etc... but it doesn't mean that all of these songs will be on Mariah's next album. Hi, my name is Emma and I'm a Mariah Carey
fan
By Louisa Pearson is away () Listening to Mariah Carey Yes, she does sing all those dreadful weepy ballads, and yes, some of those outfits do defy both belief and gravity. But her music is wonderfully bouncy. The sort of bubblegum pop that requires absolutely no intellectual thought whatsoever. Especially on headphones, in the summer, walking down the street. And anyone who can show a camera crew around her home and say the words: "This is the shoe room" with the sort of deadly serious tone more commonly heard at state funerals gets my vote any time. Source: The Scotsman (All rights reserved) (extract) Heroes comment: What's this mess? The writer of the article is apparently Louisa Pearson who is away, so, if Louisa is away, who wrote the article??? Emma? Or, does Louisa want us to believe she's away and in reality she IS Emma . But, if Louisa is Emma, why Emma is Louisa ???????? And if Emma is not Louisa, who is Emma ??????? Well, in any case, that it was Emma or Louisa who wrote this article, she's not a fan. But then, why does she says that she's a Mariah fan ????????? Like I said, it's a complete and total mess . Posted on May the 27th. |

Face the music
By Gisela Garcia, Blue Entertainment Editor Before he skipped town, my best friend Geoff gave me a laptop that used to belong to a friend of his named Jen. It came complete with Winamp and a whole lot of Mp3's. But these aren't your run of the mill songs, oh no. Every song on that playlist is from the early 90s and even the 80s, and one or two from the 70s (one of which is the beloved disco standard "Ring My Bell") I shuddered and almost hurled. Great. Crappy songs, and no way to get good ones because I'd have to either do it illegally and get jailed or pay for them (HA!). So, picking over utter silence, I decided to face the (shitty) music and just listen to the pitiful playlist. However, I've since changed my tune (that'll be the last dumb pun, I swear). Upon forced listening, I've rediscovered a lot of songs that I used to think were lame because I was an idiot. Now, I'm floored by how many great singles I was missing out on for some reason or another. For example, some of them I was way too young to appreciate, like Billy Idol's "Eyes Without a Face" and Journey's "Faithfully", Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight" and The Jets' "You Got It Over Him." Or because I was too much of a snob to surrender to the trendiness of some songs, like Skee Lo's "I Wish" or Blackstreet's "No Diggity." These songs were always so overplayed when they came out, that I, being always the person inherently turned off by anything too mainstream, would turn the other cheek. But this girl Jen and her Winamp; man, they did me a favor! These songs are all treasures! Skee Lo was an awesome rapper! Phil Collins (in very small doses) is spectacular! It's almost like discovering a bar band that is damn good but hasn't made it big yet, because you can rarely find these songs being played on the radio anymore. It's really quite exciting. So if you're as bored with your CD collection as I was, I suggest you tap into radio stations that play the older stuff and don't switch it if anything like Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love" or Big Mountain's "Baby I Love Your Way" come on. I promise you'll be surprised. And here's to old one-hit wonders and classic-yet-forgotten artists making my day a little brighter. To quote Huey Lewis and the News: "They say the heart of rock 'n' roll is still beating." And it is, my friends. It beats still. In my Winamp. Fake talent contest brings out the worst in
people
By Kathleen Sheridan Seeking untalented, slightly tone-deaf and fairly mad performers to entertain America on a new weekly reality show. Professional training and dance skills unnecessary. Ability to dance like a white guy actually considered a plus. Grab your air guitar and hairbrush microphone, and dust off the old break dancing moves because America wants you to compete in the "The WB's Superstar USA" competition. The seven-episode "Superstar USA" (Mondays and Tuesdays, WB) is a hilarious spoof on the famed "American Idol" and includes a panel of three sarcastic and sometimes cruel judges to preside over the would-be untalented stars. Panel includes singer Vitamin C (I've never head of her), TV producer Chris Briggs and "Mr. Funky Cold Medina" himself, rapper Tone Loc. They will try to dupe the contestants by bolstering the egos of the desperately bad singers and shaming the ones with actual talent. Example of the judges' comments after a rather decent performance: Judge: "Knock, knock." Contestant: "Who's there?" Judge: "You suck." That's tough love at its finest. I wonder how well I'd do in this competition. My mom always said I had a beautiful singing voice - but it strikes me as odd that she would ask me to practice singing in the basement with the door closed. On the real "American Idol" (Tuesday and Wednesday, Fox), where talent is held in higher regard (or so they say) we finally and thankfully said goodbye to Jasmine Trias and this week is the final sing-off between Diana DeGarmo and Fantasia Barrino. Now, I might receive scathing emails from both of those ladies, their families and their local Krispy Kreme representatives for saying this, but neither Diana nor Fantasia is going to be the next best thing in music. In fact, I think they will both fail miserably. They both have average voices and lack star quality. That's it, plain and simple. And the show's finale could not come soon enough for this reality TV critic. Perhaps next season's installment will include some higher caliber performances, and the contestants will aspire to be the next Bruce Springsteen or Mariah Carey instead of a one-hit-wonder. Let's keep our fingers crossed! Source: Fort Wayne News Sentinel (All rights reserved) (extract) Heroes comment: "Judge: "Knock, knock." - Contestant: "Who's there?" - Judge: "You suck."" The KISS Concert is one of the most highly anticipated annual events at the Tweeter Center for the Performing Arts in Mansfield. Mariah Carey is now set to make a comeback.
"Extra" has learned that the superstar is putting together a carefully constructed plan to come back out on top. Sources say that the 34-year-old singer is set to launch a new album, star in the stage version of "The Prince and the Show Girl" and she may even have a new gig on TV. Carey has just wrapped a 60-city tour. During her time on the road, she spent a lot of her time quietly reflecting or "meditating a lot" sources say. With all the new developments in Carey's professional life it should be evident that her gig is under new management. She has made a shift to the watchful eye of star-producing mega manager Benny Medina. He launched Jennifer Lopez's career and he currently works with Ricky Martin. According to "Extra's" sources, Medina has brought some of the biggest names in production to Carey's next set. Music moguls R. Kelley, L.A. Reid and Kanye West have been called in for Carey's new album. The first single from the album is set to drop in the fall and Carey wrote a lot of the new album on the beautiful Caribbean island, Anguilla. Carey is also taking her acting career very seriously. She will play the role once made famous by Marilyn Monroe in a stage version remake of "The Prince and the Showgirl" in London's West End. But she's not limiting herself to stage, she is talking with networks to discuss a prime-time gig and wants to get back into movies, preferably in an independent film. "Extra" has learned that Carey has a new manager (former J.Lo honcho Benny Medina), is set to launch a new album in the fall, will star in a London stage version of "The Prince and the Show Girl" (she'll have the Marilyn Monroe role) and might get a TV gig. Mariah Carey Plans Comeback
She's the top-selling female artist of all time, but Mariah Carey's been missing in action lately. This week, though, Mariah made her first public sighting in some time, facing the world this week at a benefit for her charity, Operation Smile. And now, only "Extra" can reveal the three ways the superstar is planning to get back to the top. First of all, Mariah has now put her career in the hands of Bennie Modina, the man who's launched dozens of stars, including Jennifer Lopez, and is now working with Ricky Martin. Modina has brought in some huge names to work with Carey on her new album, like R. Kelly and rap superstar Kayne West. The first single from the album is due out in the fall. Mariah has just finished a 60-city tour, but along the way, she spent a lot of quiet time reflecting. "Extra" has learned she is now meditating, and wrote a lot of her new album on the beautiful island of Anguilla. The third part of Carey's comeback bid involves her acting career. In 1957, Marilyn Monroe starred in "The Prince and the Showgirl," and now we've learned that Carey will be starring in a stage version of the movie in London. She's also taking meetings with the networks to discuss a primetime gig. And we've learned she wants to get back into movies, preferably independent films. It's clear that Mariah Carey is back on her game and ready to take the world by storm -- again. Source: ExtraTV (All rights reserved) Heroes note: Of course, you need to read "Benny Medina". Fresh produce
Jam, Lewis work to bring out best in today’s artists By Jeff Baenen In the last two years, Jam and Lewis have been doing more movie work in Los Angeles, spending about 75 percent of their time there. They did the soundtrack for last year’s “The Fighting Temptations” and are working on the upcoming “Bridget Jones’s Diary” sequel. They’ve set up temporary shop in a Beverly Hills studio (dubbed “Flyte Tyme West” after their Twin Cities-based production company) and have bought a building in Santa Monica, Calif., a couple of blocks from major movie studios. Recently, they have even put their Flyte Tyme Studios in Edina, Minn., up for sale. It’s easier being closer to the artists in Los Angeles than flying them to the Twin Cities, Jam says. Jam has planned a “goodbye party” in Minnesota on May 22 as he prepares to head west this summer with his wife and three children, according to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune reported. “Really, the coolest thing about films is simply that it’s something different,” he says. “It’s just moving on to a different thing.” Source: FortWayne (All rights reserved) (extract) Posted on May the 17th. |
Where have all the divas gone?
By Anne Neville Elayne Rapping, professor of American Studies at the University at Buffalo, says the word "diva" is commonly applied to many "big, powerful, strong women." Rapping, the author of "Media-tions: Forays into the Culture and Gender Wars," and "The Culture of Recovery," says many modern pop-culture divas don't fill that bill, no matter how much they indulge thir ids. "Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and I would include Janet Jackson, they're not really big powerful women, they're just celebrities, and of course everyone is looking to bring down someone famous. Enter the princess and the showgirl
By Sue Mott Serena Williams has her own fashion line - Aneres. "My name spelt backwards," she explained. "My goal in a couple of years is to try and build a successful fashion house like Armani or Versace. I want that more than anything." More than being an actress? She thought for a split second. "I want 'em all." Plus that elusive boyfriend. "I'm into someone who has high morals, loves his mum, gives me respect and treats me like a princess." What can you say? That this is not quite the template into which Neanderthal man has evolved. "Oh I know," she sighed with resignation, than chuckled. "I like to look at Mariah Carey, Sandra Bullock. Beautiful women. Talented women. We're all in the same situation. It's hard to find a good man." Source: Telegraph(All rights reserved) (extract) Posted on May the 15th. |

Pamela Anderson Gets Down With Hip-Hop
By Nolan Strong Model/actress Pamela Anderson will step into the world of Hip-Hop, as she plays host on West Coast producer Damizza’s latest mixtape. Anderson is featured on “Damizza Presents: The Baby Ree Mixtape Volume 2,” which features new material from DJ Quik, Butch Cassidy, Jadakiss, G-Unit, Roscoe, Conway and other artists. “With Pam hosting it and having big, international names like Mariah Carey and Nate Dogg featured alongside new DJs like Power 106’s Big Syphe and Eric D-Lux, it gives new and OG West Coast rap artists and producers a chance to shine,” Damizza told AllHipHop.com in a statement. Damizza said that Pam’s love for Hip-Hop displays an exciting side to her personality that doesn’t necessarily radiate through televisions shows or the pages of magazines. “She’s got a sense of humor about her and she’s very diverse to where she would do a mix tape,” Damizza explained. “She respects music and the West Coast and wanted to lend her name to something that is going straight to the street.” Damizza, who produced the majority of the beats on the mixtape, said that in addition the recognizable names featured on mixtape, up-and-coming West coast producer Bear is featured, as well as some new hungry emcees. The tape is being distributed across the country by former football star/actor/activist Jim Brown and his philanthropic organization Amer-I-Can/Unity 1 foundation. Kim Gordon and husband Thurston Moore about
Mariah
And, like she did with Karen Carpenter on 1990's Goo, Kim Gordon dissects another troubled pop icon with "Mariah Carey and the Arthur Doyle Hand Cream." Mariah Carey - "Fantasy" - Daydream Kim: Is that Mariah Carey? Thurston: That's Mariah. [Laughs] Kim: I saw her doing a cover of the '70s disco song, "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life." I just couldn't get it out of my head. She was bouncing through this set of gangsta rappers. It was right after her breakdown and she seemed so vulnerable. And she was barely singing! It stuck with me. She and Karen Carpenter [the anorexic subject of Sonic Youth's "Tunic"] are both about the body. Karen was trying to get rid of hers. Aesthetics have changed a lot since Karen. I'm sure they're similar A-type personalities – driven perfectionists who just want to please people so much. Karen's voice showed a lot of vulnerability - more so than Mariah. She made the words she was singing her own. That's a scary thing to do when you're standing in a media spotlight. You lose a sense of your identity. It's a narcissist thing. Source: VH1 (All rights reserved) (extract) Heroes comment: Mmmm, it seems that VH1 didn't make enough research, like I said on March the 18th. and May the 7th., Sonic Youth is not allowed to use the name "Mariah Carey" in their song title due to legal reasons, and it also seems that Kim Gordon don't know what she's talking about, as "Last Night a DJ Saved My Life" is not a 70's song, but a early 80's song. If you want to read a part of the lyrics of "Kim Gordon and the Arthur Doyle Hand Cream", scroll down to May the 7th. Posted on May the 13th. |

Swells
Catherine Bigelow Twinkle, Twinkle: In the grand tradition of a Danielle Steel novel, the author herself has lived a life as full as her fictional heroines. There's been adventure, motherhood, fame, parking-permit dramas, fortune, disappointment and love. But it was a chapter on personal tragedy that inspired Steel to create her finest real-life role yet: Advocate and fund- raiser for mental health programs. When Steel hosted a gala benefit last week at the Ritz-Carlton, her guests at the head table (in no particular order) included former vice- presidential first lady Tipper Gore (who with husband Al Gore, also attended Steel's preparty for 100 the night before in the ballroom of Steel's historic manse); Barry Bonds; Princess Michael of Kent; actors Peter Coyote, Michael York and Joanna Poitier; Hollywood author Jackie Collins; and rocker Ozzy Osbourne with his wife, talk-show host Sharon Osbourne. Folks, it ain't called the Star Ball for nothing. And those were but a few sparklers who turned out for the third biennial gala, raising $700K for the Nick Traina Foundation. Named in honor of Steel's son, who suffered from bipolar disorder and died of a drug overdose in 1997 at 19, the foundation supports local and national organizations that directly serve those whose suffer from mental illness and their families. "It just doesn't make sense,'' said Tipper Gore, a longtime advocate of mental health treatment and research. "People talk rationally and compassionately about every other organ in the body, except the brain.'' The mellifluous Coyote served as emcee, keeping the boisterous crowd on track for the evening's events: "Please, ladies and gentlemen, take your seats. We've just gotten word that Mariah Carey is in the elevator and on her way down to perform.'' Yes, it was that kind of night. More than 500 guests gladly ponied up $500 (and then some) to attend the black-tie fete. Among the bon-tons: Arista Records founder and president Clive Davis (who was mistakenly asked by a non-MTV watching reporter if it was he who'd discovered Mariah. "No,'' said the mogul, smiling graciously. "You're thinking of Whitney.'' Oops! Pass the People magazine -- please!); Davis' cousin, "Beach Blanket Babylon'' producer Jo Schuman Silver; the fabulous and always elegant Vogue editor-at-large and columnist André Leon Talley (who donned a kimono over his tux); psychic Gary Spivey (ask about the hair later); actor Gary Collins and wife Mary Ann Mobley (looking as though she'd just been crowned Miss America, again) and Steel's former husband, John Traina. Members of Danielle's brood included Beatie Seidenberg and husband Michael; fashionable Victoria Traina (wearing YSL couture and Schlumberger jewels) and a Chanel-clad Vanessa Traina; Zara Traina and Maxx Traina, who was just named to the Foundation's board. From our local firmament, heavy-hitting sponsors (and good friends): Susie Tompkins Buell, with her husband, Mark Buell; philanthropists Ann Fay Barry and Alexander Mehran; the Giants' original, irreplaceable, super slugger Willie Mays, an unquestionable star in any crowd; Mayor Gavin Newsom (making a brief fly-by); former Mayor Willie Brown with a striking blond named Sonya (whose last name he claims not to remember); Ann and Gordon Getty, Stanlee Gatti (who helped Steel produce the event), Jeannette Etheredge, Bond's mom, Patricia Bonds, and wife Liz Bonds; Vanessa Getty, with pals Paul Price and district attorney Kamala Harris; Bobby and Adrianna Pope Sullivan; Peter and Kaylea Bakker, with daughter Kimberly Bakker; Libby Pfau and Donna Miller Casey. And accentuating the "sparkling'' theme (like a diamond on black velvet): Hermes' Terry Howard, Cartier's Robert Atkinson and Tiffany's Giles Marsden. Awards were presented to Bonds, Tipper Gore and Sidney Poitier (unable to attend because of a prior commitment with the United Nations) for their work with children's issues and mental health organizations. Sharon Osbourne then introduced Steel (whom she'd met during her battle with colon cancer -- out of the blue, Steel had sent her a letter of support). Osbourne, earrings in hand as she took the podium, joked: "My husband's going to kill me -- my earrings keep popping off. And they're on loan!'' When Danielle came up onstage (dazzling in Rochas couture, sparkling in major carat-age) she jibed back: "Well, I don't have a husband, and the earrings are mine!'' Steel gave an impassioned speech, not just on mental illness but on the disease's cruel grip among many of the city's homeless. "Mental illness is the second cause of death among young people under 20,'' she said. "What we're doing tonight is a very small drop in a very big bucket. But we must celebrate the survivors, not just the losses.'' In the cause of filling that bucket, a live auction of luxury goods was held, sparking a spirited battle between two Gettys and a Gatti for tickets to Silver's "Beach Blanket Babylon.'' "As soon as I saw Gordon raise his bid card, I dropped out,'' said Gatti, laughing. Ann Getty made up for losing that item to her husband by winning an autographed Barry Bond's bat and a Giants' package that included four tickets plus a Bonds "meet & greet.'' All told, the Gettys enriched the cause by almost 25 grand. Plastic surgeon Douglas Ousterhout won the Fred Leighton diamond necklace which retails for 85-thou -- but was a "steal'' for just 24K. And Angela Janklow, daughter of legendary literary agent Mort Janklow, fought hard and bid high (14K) for a chocolate Lab puppy. Then it was show time. Mariah Carey slinked onstage in a slip of a dress to great cheers. As she began hitting her trademark high notes, Gatti turned to Clive Davis, and whispered: "She's pretty good.'' Not used to the small venue and shortened format, Carey was unable to make her usual number of costume changes. "This is what's known as rough-neck, diva-style,'' she joked, snapping open her compact and powdering her nose onstage in-between songs under the hot lights. San Francisco Botox king Seth Matarasso exclaimed (throughout much of the show): "Oh my God, I love Mariah!'' But it was homegrown legend Bonds who proved himself Carey's biggest fan. As the double-sided tape holding the fuchsia gown to Carey's generous décolletage threatened to slip away, the singer called out for her staff. Bonds immediately stood up, waved his arms and cried out, "Hey, I can do it!'' Alas, her dresser arrived onstage. However a second potential costume malfunction loomed. This time, Bonds strode purposefully up to the stage and gallantly offered his assistance. Mariah's eyes grew wide as a security guard waved Bonds back to his seat. Holy smokes! Didn't she recognize the National League's six-time MVP? Perhaps in Carey's universe, there's room for only one superstar? Earlier in the evening, as the sky glowed pink and the night's first stars began to glimmer, Steel said that today would have been her son's 26th birthday. "I find myself wondering, would Nick be married by now? Would he be finished with college? Would he be a rock star?'' Though May is Mental Health Month, Steel acknowledged that having the event on this particular day was a little painful. Earlier in the day, she'd told her daughters that she couldn't make her usual visit to Nick's grave; that it would just be too much. "We hold the Star Ball in the hope," Steel said, as guests clamoured to greet her, "that this doesn't happen to anybody else.'' Mariah Carey to approach Justin Timberlake?
According to sources at Def Jam, Mariah Carey is reaching out to Justin Timberlake again. During the making of her last album Charmbracelet, the two recorded the track “Yours,” as a duet but the song was never released, “She really wants to make this happen,” the source adds, “Justin and Mariah have been friends since they worked together in 2002. His label did not want him to be attached with Carey’s woes at the time and in return they shut down the idea of releasing the duet.” Timberlake is currently working on a movie and contemplating his return to N’ Sync. Without a solo album in the pot, this is all the more possible. A close friend of Timberlake insists, “He would love to work with Mariah again. All she has to do ask and he is there.” Source: Groovevolt (All rights reserved) Heroes note: Remember that "Yours" was not recorded as a duet, it was Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis who made Justin record a little part (when he was there to record song for him) whithout asking Mariah first, and then when it was done, they said to Mariah "listen to this". Is Patti Labelle the first tragedy of L.A.
Reid?
Patti Labelle is one of the world’s greatest vocalist but is she being treated as such. Her latest album released this Tuesday has hit stores with little to no publicity. “Now under the reign of L.A. Reid, you have to wonder how important this album is to him,” says a Def Jam employee, “This is the same man who released albums from Santana, TLC, Toni Braxton, Aretha Franklin, Blu Cantrell and Kenny G without any promotion. At the same time he released an album by Whitney Houston while sending her to commit career suicide with Diane Sawyer.” Others closer to the project stay optimistic “I feel this could be one of her best albums. She has been doing the interviews, meeting the fans and has really step forward with this release. I believe with a little support, a lot can be done.” Source: Groovevolt (All rights reserved) Posted on May the 7th. |
More news about Sonic Youth's track "Mariah
Carey and the Arthur Doyle Hand Cream"
On March the 18th. 2004, I gave you the cover and the tracklist of Sonic Youth's album "Nurse". Remember that Geffen Records said they couldn't use the words "Mariah Carey" due to legal reasons. Their album will be released on June the 8th., but, the title on the track will now be "Kim Gordon and the Arthur Doyle Hand Cream", but the lyrics stay the same. It took me a lot of time to find forums with Sonic Youth fans and a nice one gave me a part of the lyrics: "Hey, hey little baby break down - Button up baby, you’ve come undone - Hey, hey, little baby get down - Before you go and hurt someone - How was your lunch with Eminem? - Did he bake you? - And then forsake you?" A lot of Sonic Youth fans don't like this song, there's even one who said: "What's their beef? "One Sweet Day" is only the #1 song of all time!" © Heroes of Mariah Posted on May the 7th. |

Mariah added to Ray Puxley's book "Brit Slang"
Ray Puxley, known for his Cockney dictionaries, release now a brand new edition of his "Brit Slang" book. This year he added some entries which are simple rhyming slang, jargon and trendy phrases. Among them here are some of The Sun's favourites. It's not a tabloid news, this book exists and has not been written by a tabloid columnist. - SPANNER - A sexually attractive or provocative woman. One who “tightens nuts”. - TROUT POUT - Fish-mouthed look of someone who has had a disastrous lip-enlargement. - WALLACE & GROMIT - Vomit. - BRITNEYS - Ears, as in Spears. - NELSON MANDELA - Pint of Stella. - PENELOPE CRUZ - Booze. - MARIAH CAREY - Scary. Note: I didn't knew people were talking this way in England , 'cause when I travel to London, I don't hear these "stuffs", but, apparently it's used everyday by people, as it's featured in this book . Mariah was at Danielle Steel's Star Ball on
May the 1st.
Fabulous author Danielle Steel's fabulous weekend gala in San Francisco had an equally fab group. Mariah Carey sang wearing her usual few inches of fabric. The napkins were larger. Joanna Poitier came without Sidney. Tipper Gore stayed the whole time but Al, who'd been seen running around in his running shorts, had to run home. Danielle's nifty guest list, from Willie Mays to Princess Michael of Kent to Mr. & Mrs. Ozzy Osbourne, was such that some VIPs at one table had never ever heard of some VIPs at another. A few worried that the eclectic worlds could collide. As in maybe Ozzy telling the princess: "Pass the [four letter word]ing salt." Carey goes chopper shopping with Flex
Diva Mariah Carey called on mechanic-turned-rapper Funkmaster Flex to help her land her dream helicopter when she decided to hit the skies in style. The singer had dreamed of owning a helicopter for years but had never found time to shop for a chopper, so she decided to enlist Flex's expertise when it came time to buy one. The rapper agreed to help her look as long as he could film the shopping trip for his TV show "Ride With Funkmaster Flex." The odd couple arrived at Helinet, a Van Nuys, Calif., company that specializes in top-of-the-range choppers, to look at prospective models, including $10 million ex-Army choppers used in the Desert Storm conflict in the Middle East. Carey wasn't too impressed with the army helicopters, insisting, "It's a little butch for me, Flex." But she did have a good idea about exactly what she wanted -- for her and her pet pooch Jack: "It's for short distances when there's a lot of traffic and you gotta get to the show quickly. You could do your show from the helicopter like the weather man does. "I need a little more leg room. It's a little tight. Jack needs a seat." The singer eventually fell for a $5 million Sikorsky model and took it for a test flight -- the first time Flex had been in a helicopter. Who's who in hot Rap novel
The hip-hop communty is scrambling to get a copy of the new novel "Bling" (Miramax) - a thinly veiled roman a clef set in the urban music world - before its June release to figure out who is who. Many assume L.A. Reid was the basis for the main character Lamont, but others who have read InStyle writer Erica Kennedy's novel say he doesn't fit. "L.A. is too nice, it isn't him," one inside source said. Instead, Lamont, a thuggish man who runs "Triple Large Entertainment," appears inspired by Andre Harrell and Tommy Mottola. The Lamont character has a toadying underling, Daryl "Country D" McHenry; Harrell had a teenage Sean "Puffy" Combs in his office in the early '90s. Lamont's love interest is Mimi, a biracial singer in her early 20s whom he turns into a star, woos and weds; Mottola had Mariah Carey. Vanessa de la Cruz, the "bitchy faded supermodel," is trying to open up her own image consultancy firm but doesn't like to do any real work, and is losing modeling gigs because of her bad attitude and age. Insiders giggle the character seems to be loosely based on Naomi Campbell, who last year started NC Connect, a publicity and image-relations firm. Meanwhile, Lena Whittaker, "the wild, hip-hop-obsessed daughter of a powerful entertainment lawyer," is a cross between Lizzie Grubman and Nicole Richie. At one point, Lena even hits someone with a glass - a la Richie's fracas at Bungalow 8 two years ago. There's even a comic take on Combs' mother, Janice Combs, via the character of Mama Jackson, a flamboyant older woman who rides on Lamont's coattails. But in the end, a source close to Kennedy notes: "All of these characters could be a compilation of people. The hip-hop community is so stereotyped right now. There are 10 of each of these types of people at every hip-hop party." Kennedy refused to comment, but the 31-year-old author - who happens to be godmother to Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons' daughter Ming - is laughing all the way to the bank. Kennedy is said to have sold the international book rights as well as the movie rights to Miramax for a sum well over seven figures. Source: Page Six (All rights reserved) Posted on May the 1st. |
Atmosphere that needs some spice
Al Sheik's, 64 Foregate Street, Stafford As inauspicious starts go it wasn't bad. After taking our coats, the waiter helped my guest sit down by ramming the chair underneath her, planting her firmly in a sitting position. I then had to get up myself to eliminate the chill factor after the doors were left open. And if you're not a fan of the golden-tonsilled Mariah Carey, whose entire back catalogue seemed to be played at above normal volume, I would recommend you eat elsewhere. Mariah Carey about her ups and downs, if not
ins and outs: "I've been through a lot in my life. I'm used to it. It's
good I have an outlet to release my feelings - otherwise I'd have to live
with a therapist."
