Decorator Gail Sedigh was recently asked to decorate Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon’s twins’ nursery.

I imagine you were a shoo-in when it came to Mariah decorating her nursery?  How did it all come to be?
We received a call from Mariah’s people.  They had done a lot of research on baby furniture and designers and presented her with choices.  We’re proud she chose us!

What are some of the items you used from your collections?
We used the Serafina Crib in Versailles Crème Finish for the girl and the Heirloom Crib in the same finish for the boy.  We used an AFK French Wide Chest with our Trumeau Mirror above it, the Maxwell Upholstered Daybed, matching Mayfair Swivel Gliders and our Mayfair RoundTufted Ottoman, Sandrine Table, Juliette Table & Chairs Set, and Eloise Clothes Valet as well as a custom bookcase we built to fit under the ‘faux’ arched window.

What were Mariah and Nick’s favorites?
Mariah had been staying at a spa when the installation was done.  I’m told she just sat and stared in awe at everything and in the days before they were born could be found ‘nesting’ in the room.  And she loved that Eloise Clothes Valet!  Nick was involved and supportive of Mariah’s choices.  He just wanted to make sure the room wasn’t too “girlie”.

The room, for all its decadence, is still so serene and quietly elegant.  Was that Mariah’s direction, or did she look to you for the design?  How much did Mariah drive the design of the nursery?  Was there anything specific Mariah wanted?
I think Mariah had definite ideas and wishes for her nursery.  She very much wanted a ceiling mural with “the colors of the clouds of a Bahamian Sunset”.   AFK’s muralist, Marnie Vollenhals, painted an amazing sky with gold leaf stars.  Mariah loved it!  That set the tone for the nursery – serene and restful with a bit of magic!; she left the rest of the design up to me.

How did you come about the creaminess of the palette?  We’re loving the green.
Mariah and Nick wanted pink for Monroe but wanted to vary a bit  from the typical “blue” boy’s palette.  We settled on green – Mariah liked the tie-in to “nature.”  I had Marnie paint another mural on the wall — a-trompe l’oeil scene that I originally suggested  be of Central Park because Mariah loves New York,  her hometown!   But when Marnie was actually painting the scene, Mariah decided that instead she wanted a more “pastoral” scene — with lambs and a bubbling brook, which is what we painted.   Ultimately Mariah loved the ceiling sky so much that she decided to have the pastoral scene painted over with more sky. 

What’s in the room that we don’t see in the pictures?
The Maxwell Day Bed, our custom designed built-in closets and changing station and the amazing sky mural!

What Mariah Carey & Mike Tyson Have In Common

So what could Mariah Carey and Mike Tyson possible have in common? Baby names.
As we previously reported, the 44-year-old boxing legend and his wife Lakiha Spicer welcomed their son Morocco Elijah January 25 in Henderson, Nevada.

"I call him Rocky!" Tyson, appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, said Thursday.

"You know Mariah Carey stole your baby name," Kimmel said. "She named her baby, I think, Moroccan."

"Well that's interesting," Tyson said. "My wife made the same statement too: 'See I told you it was a good name, Mariah Carey named her baby Moroccan.’

"I said, 'Why, because she named her son baby Moroccan, it had to be a good name?'" Tyson said.

The boxing champ admitted Morocco wasn’t his first choice for a name.

Mariah Carey Twins Probe -- Case Closed
The L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services has just wrapped up its interview with Mariah Carey and has concluded there is no merit to the investigation -- sources connected with DCFS tell TMZ. 
We're told DCFS social workers interviewed Mariah and spent time with the twins -- and concluded the children were in a healthy and safe environment.

The investigation was triggered by an anonymous phone call to DCFS complaining that Mariah drank a Guinness beer while she was breast feeding.

As we reported, Mariah was informed by a hospital staffer that drinking a dark beer would assist her in lactating.  We're told Mariah informed social workers she simply followed the hospital staffer's advice and drank the Guinness, never hiding the fact that she consumed the drink.

We're told Mariah's lawyer, Laura Wasser, was present during the DCFS interview today.

Our DCFS sources say officials have concluded there is no merit to the complaint.

       Mariah Carey plans to emphasize her African American roots on her next album,
When Mariah was in Chicago last year, rumors persisted that she met with Jesse Jackson to discuss the discrimination she believes she faces for being half African American (even though her father is from Brazil, not America). She was convinced that the failure of her past two albums, E=MC2 and Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, was due to fact she married an African American man and embraces African American music.

A couple weeks back, Mariah renewed her wedding vows to Nick Cannon with Rev. Al Sharpton. “I don’t know about the Jesse Jackson rumors, but Mariah has certainly been talking with Al Sharpton a lot. Mariah feels like she is a target of White discrimination. Because of this, she plans to emphasize her African American roots on her next album,” an inside source tells me.

During an interview Nick told "my wife wanted to make sure that when the babies came out, that they came out not only to a Mariah Carey song, but a live performance from Mariah Carey — her Madison Square Garden performance of ‘Fantasy’— so they came out to a round of applause,” (see May 12)

“She’s been truly inspired by this experience (motherhood) and she can’t wait to get back into the studio.  She’s already been doing some preliminary work and meeting with a lot of producers and has tons of ideas, so I guarantee you can expect something soon.”

When they’re together, the couple listens to throwback R&B records and gospel. “We listen to a lot of old school stuff like The Gap Band and El DeBarge. The Clark Sisters—a lot gospel music goes on in our house.”

Those who can’t wait for Mariah’s return may get a glimpse of her this fall on Fox’s “The X Factor.” “Her and Simon Cowell talk quite frequently about what she wants to do,” shared Nick, “but she’s Mariah so she’s only gonna do it if she can do it her way.”

Us: Mariah Carey just gave birth and I know she inducted you into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame, What do you think about her new role as a mother?
GK: From the first time I met Mariah, she's always been a little introverted, so to speak. She's very shy but I think she'll be a great mom and I think Nick Cannon will be a great dad. They make a great couple to me and every couple has their ups and downs and hopefully they can make it work. I am really happy for her. I'm just so excited about their little family.

      Investigation of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Continues
Officials with the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services are continuing to investigate allegations of alcohol and drug use against Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon that occurred shortly after the birth of their twins.

“The case will probably remain open for the next week, out abundance of caution,” a source with knowledge of the situation says.  “There has been absolutely no findings that either Mariah or Nick were doing anything illegal, or that could place the twins in danger.” “Unfortunately Nick was extremely angry when DCFS officials attempted to interview Mariah, which just escalated the situation. His anger didn’t help the situation.”

“Under California law, anytime there is any allegation made involving the welfare and safety of a child, DCFS is required to investigate. Mariah was extremely cooperative with DCFS and answered all the questions. Mariah understood why Nick was upset. He was just trying to protect her, and the twins.”

The DCFS could pay one more visit to the couple once they are at home with the twins, the source says. “That decision will be made by the social worker assigned to the case.”

Have you gotten any crazy baby gifts from celebrity friends?

Sharon and Ozzy [Osbourne] bought us this life-sized stuffed giraffe. And some Gothic thrones for the babies. That was a little . . . different.

You’ve already got “Mariah” tattooed across your entire back — will you get “Monroe” and “Moroccan” tattoos?

I don’t know. I think I might be tattooed out. I was the person who said I would never get tattoos. So even to have that on my back is a big ordeal.

You recently gave out your real home phone number on your New York morning radio show. What were you thinking?

Well, luckily, we have more than one line, so now the line in the kitchen is designated for people to leave messages.

Have people been calling?

Oh, like crazy. It’s mostly people calling to tell my wife how great she is, or to sing for her. The people who call to tell me how much they love my radio show are few and far between. One dude called and blatantly just said, “Hey, I need $5,000.” You gotta respect that — he came out and asked for what he wanted.

Despite Mariah’s first-time mommy nerves, Nick said the legendary singer was an absolute champ during her delivery.
“She was cool! She was kind of calm,” the new daddy gushed. “I just remember the doctor going, ‘Nick, get the camera ready,’ and then you hear like, this kind of pop sound and my wife go, ‘Whoaaaaa’ and then the babies come up. There wasn’t a scream or anything!”

Though the twins are still in the hospital – Nick was still sporting his hospital wristbands during our interview! — the beaming comedian said the babies are expected to be able to come home on “Sunday or Monday, at the latest.”

Nick told Billy and Kit. “I’m the designated diaper changer, I’m the one that changes the diapers as of right now – my wife hasn’t changed anything yet, but I have.”

Despite giving birth less than two weeks ago – and breastfeeding “tandem” with one baby one each arm! – Nick revealed Mariah is already anxious to get back to work.

“She was working while she was pregnant and she’s planning on putting out an album this year. She’s grinding,” Nick told Billy and Kit. “She’s a workaholic like myself – I think that’s kind of why our relationship really works.”

According to Cannon, Carey completed a good amount of recording a few months ago during her pregnancy. "She's been working away, and we have a studio in the crib, and the pregnancy has totally inspired her on so many different levels. Finally, when will we see pictures of the babies?
"I don’t know how I feel showing pictures. Definitely eventually it has to happen, but I’m still pondering on the timing on when to show the world my children, because they didn’t ask to be born into this situation, so I want to give them a sense of normalcy for as long as I can. I don’t want them mad at me 20 years from now, going, “Why was you showing us butt-naked as infants?”

"We thought we probably weren't going to be able to do it, especially since my wife gave birth on our anniversary," Cannon tells TVGuide.com. "But she's a champ, man; she's superwoman. She pulled it off: Hours after giving birth she was in a wedding dress and a veil, exchanging vows. Not only do our children share a birthday, but we all share a day together. It's like Cannon Family Day. We're starting our own holiday. "

Mariah continues to stay with the twins in a Los Angeles hospital since they're remain in the neonatal intensive-care unit, though Nick expects them to be home "Sunday/Monday-ish." In the meantime, they've taken over an entire wing of the undisclosed hospital. "I don't know how the hospital feels about that," he admits. "We got security standing at the elevator. It's crazy."

Nick comments on reports of a "tabloid scam" at hospital
Piers Morgan interviewed Nick Cannon today (to air soon), and Cannon commented on the reports of a "tabloid scam" at the hospital involving his wife Mariah Carey. Child Protective Services was called following reports of "drinking and drugs" going on at the hospital.

Cannon explained the situation: " It all started where a nurse suggested to my wife that if you drink Guinness or a small amount of Guinness, the dark beer, that the yeast improves breastfeeding," he said. "Then they were saying that my wife was drinking beer and all that stuff. It’s like people would do anything to conjure up a story."

Before you went out on stage and talked about Mariah, did you discuss it with her?
Uh, a little bit. Some of it was just freestylin’. But she has such a great sense of humor that I would run stuff by her all the time and just say, “Yo what do you think about this?” She’s a great punch up writer!

Are there jokes about fatherhood?
Yeah there are definitely jokes about fatherhood and really speaking about my fears about being a father. I even talk about my twins being born any day now. All of that’s there.

Now that you are a father, you’re probably getting great material from the twins.
Yeah I got tons of jokes already. Ready to hit the stage ASAP.

How is it being a father?
Ah, man, it’s amazing. It’s surreal. Probably the most beautiful thing that’s ever happened to me is to be able to have a family and to be able to just live in that moment as long as you possibly can.

The names Moroccan and Monroe have gotten a lot of attention. Did you two anticipate that?
I had no idea it was gonna get that much attention. We don’t sit around and like calculate what we’re gonna do. These are things that we really feel. We’re creative and eccentric people, so clearly a lot of people are gonna have opinions about the deicisions we make. But we don’t really care at the end of the day. They’re meaningful names to us and they’re special to us. I guess that’s the purpose of having a name: for people to take notice. So we’re off to a good start.

Who do they look most like?
A lot of people [say] they look like me. It’s funny, we have our own baby pictures in the room, and we’re like holding them to the baby and like, “Wel l, he kinda has your head and my eyes.” I would say it’s a mixture of both right now.

Nick Cannon Talks Twins’ Birth: “They Came Out to a Live Performance From Mariah Carey”
Nick Cannon is a very proud new dad. The radio/TV host stopped by The Gayle King Show to gush about his new family, being Mariah Carey‘s husband, the unique names the couple chose for their twins and his first ever stand-up comedy special on Showtime called, “Nick Cannon: Mr. Showbiz.”

Nick made it clear that being part of Mariah’s birthing experience was a “production.”

“Now, my wife wanted to make sure that when the babies came out, that they came out not only to a Mariah Carey song, but a live performance from Mariah Carey — her Madison Square Garden performance of ‘Fantasy’— so they came out to a round of applause,” he revealed of the birth.

He also opened up about the unique names the couple chose for their newborn babies — Moroccan Scott and Monroe Cannon.

“Of course we got to keep our celebrity weirdness up,” he quipped of the unusual names.

Nick wears a bunch of hats — actor, comedian, rapper and radio/TV personality — but he is also known as “Mr. Mariah Carey.”

“At times it used to frustrate me,” he said of the moniker. “When I step back and look at my life as a whole, I could be called a lot of worse things than Mr. Mariah Carey.”

New mom Mariah Carey didn’t have to wait long to celebrate her first Mother’s Day.

Just days after welcoming twins Monroe and Moroccan on April 30, the singer toasted her new life as a mom with a very special present from Nick Cannon: a 4-carat diamond and sapphire necklace from Jason of Beverly Hills. “Nick was really excited about the babies’ names and wanted to do a piece with them for Mariah’s first Mother’s Day,” jeweler Jason Arasheben explains. “Pink sapphires are bright and bold and diamonds are always so classic.” 

The sparkling piece, which also incorporates 14-karat white and rose gold, is valued at $12,000. Cannon, a longtime customer of Jason, was excited about his big surprise. “Nick came in and met with Jason on the Friday after his twins were born,” a source tells People. “He was bleary eyed, looking so tired but so happy — all smiles, saying he wanted to design something special for Mariah’s first Mother’s day. Mariah Carey Babies: Victims of Tabloid Scam
Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon’s new twins were almost victims of a tabloid scam last night. It’s a wild story exclusive to this column. On Tuesday evening a woman from the Department of Child Protective Services showed up at the hospital while Carey was breastfeeding babies Monroe and Roc. The twins are just finishing up their stay in the NICU. Carey has stayed with them in the hospital following her C section and a minor infection. The civil servant told Cannon she was following up a claim of neglect, of all things. The specifics: Carey was accused of drinking and taking pain meds while breastfeeding! Of course the real story was that a nurse on the floor had suggested Carey drink half a Guinness Stout in order to hasten production of breast milk. Mariah did just that and it worked. But someone in the unit sold her out, so to speak, hoping the social worker could get a picture of the babies for the tabs. Luckily no pictures were allowed. Carey and Cannon, horrified, explained the situation. “Taxpayer money was wasted, too, because this was labeled an emergency. It was ridiculous.” Meanwhile, mom and kids, healthy and wiser now, head home shortly.

Congratulations on the babies -- I feel like Mariah's been pregnant forever.
That bums me out! Like everybody thinks she was pregnant for a long time. Why do people think that?

Well there's been so much excitement!
She made the announcement in November, and it's May now -- that's not even nine months!

We are not patient people. [Laughs] You chose two very unique names -- Monroe and Moroccan -- how did you guys pick them?
Yeah, I heard the names have been causing quite the controversy as well. [Laughs] It's funny, I always say we had our names picked out very early on -- we picked one of the names like the first date that we had. But it's kind of weird that they stayed the same. Monroe, obviously, my wife has always been inspired by Marilyn Monroe ... she bought her priceless piano and all that stuff. And I just like the idea that is was more than just naming our daughter Marilyn. I think that would've been a little too cliché. Monroe is a very strong name -- it sounds really elegant.
And then Moroccan was kind of more my pick. When you think about Moroccan, it's kind of both of our names together -- Mariah and Nick together. And I always like the name Rock. Rock Cannon. It sounded like a strong name. We also have Moroccan rooms in our houses in L.A. and in New York. I've always thought that was kind of cool ... I actually proposed to my wife in the Moroccan room in New York, so it has a lot of symbolism. We like it a lot.

I love that. Also with twins, realistically you could be done having kids now ...
Yeah, I think we are if you ask my wife. [Laughs] I keep threatening her with getting her pregnant again, and she doesn't like it. She doesn't think that's funny. I heard women are their most fertile after they have children ... [Laughs]

Well you definitely aren't afraid to get personal. Does Mariah ever get mad when you share stuff like that?
Not really. I mean, she has the greatest sense of humor ever, and she knows that I'll say anything -- I don't really care. I speak my mind, and I think that's what she loves about me. As much as I can be annoying at times, I think my authenticity is appreciated.

I mean, you compare your relationship with Mariah to being like Halle Berry with Soulja Boy! At least in people's minds.
[Laughs] It is! If you think about it, some people probably see it like that. I hold my wife up high on a pedestal, and sometimes I don't give myself enough credit, so I can see how people would take it like that.

Mariah's Twins Out Of Intensive Care
Mariah Carey's twins Moroccan and Monroe are OUT of neonatal intensive care and have been removed from oxygen, X17online can report exclusively.

A source tells us the twins, born ten days ago (April 30), were kept in the NICU unit 'round-the-clock until just days ago when they were allowed to make visits to their mother's private room at the Santa Monica hospital, with oxygen tanks in tow.

Our source says mom and babies are doing well, "Nick is here all the time and he seems so relieved the babies are out of ICU. There's more movement in and out of Mariah's room now so it seems like they'll be packing up to go home shortly."

Cowell on Sunday didn't rule out the possibility of working with Mariah Carey in the near future.

"Whatever Mariah wants, Mariah gets," Cowell said of the singer, who gave birth to twins with husband Nick Cannon on April 30. 

"All she has to do is call me, and I'll work out a deal," he added. "I think she'll have a presence on one of my shows."

On Sunday, Paula Abdul officially joined Antonio "L.A." Reid and Cheryl Cole on the X Factor judging panel. Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones are set to host.

Mariah Carey's Twins Two Weeks Early, Spent Time In Incubator

A source tells X17online Mariah and Nick's twins were two weeks early and needed time in an incubator after the birth by Caesarean section. Moroccan and Monroe have just been taken out of the preemie unit and are now able to stay in a regular crib, in their mom's private room.

Mariah, 42, is in the VIP room of a Santa Monica hospital and Nick has been at her side much of the time since the births a week ago.

Our source tells us:

"Nick is always doting on Mariah and bringing things into the room for her. He always looks happy no matter what the hour, no matter how little sleep he's gotten. This guy is definitely happy to be a dad."

The baby boy and girl are still hooked up to oxygen through nasal tubes but are doing well. We're told:

"Mariah and Nick's babies aren't experiencing anything abnormal -- most twins are premature. The couple is relaxed and they don't seem worried. Mariah must be resting and taking care of herself after the C-section. She hasn't been out of her room yet."

The family is expected to be in the hospital through the coming week.

At least Nick has time to prepare things at home for their arrival! We can't wait to see what these two cuties look like!

As we know Mariah and Nick chose Monroe as name for their daughter 'cause Marilyn Monroe has been an inspiration to Mariah her whole life.
Monroe was not Marilyn's name neither was Marilyn, as you probably know, Marilyn's real name was Norma Jeane Mortenson (after her father and then changed to Baker, after her mother's husband).  When they looked for a stage name, the 20th Century Fox executive chose Marilyn Monroe (Monroe being her mother's maiden name).

Monroe is more a boy's name than a girl's one, but like many names it can apply to both sexes. 

Origin: Gaelic (comes from Munro)
Meaning: Mouth of the River Roe

The ancestors of the Munros are coming from Ireland, from a settlement by the River Roe in County Derry; their name is therefore supposed to be derived from Gaelic "bun Rotha" (mouth of the Roe), originated as a surname for those who lived near the river's mouth.

Their son is named Moroccan Scott Cannon. Scott is Nick’s middle name, as well as his grandmother’s maiden name.

The top tier of Mariah’s New York City apartment is called the Moroccan Room, because of the Moroccan-inspired decor. It’s also the place where Nick proposed to his wife, overlooking Manhattan!

Their daughter’s name is Monroe Cannon. Mariah's rep says she does not have a middle name because Mariah herself does not have one. Monroe was named after Marilyn Monroe, who has been an inspiration to Mariah her whole life.

In fact, Mariah purchased the Hollywood icon’s white piano from Christie's auction house and it is in Mariah’s will that the piano will one day go to the Smithsonian.

Mariah’s rep, Cindi Berger, tells CNN, “It has been a long, emotional journey for this family, and I couldn’t be happier for all of them.”

The New York-based minister was called to Mariah's hospital bed on Sunday to help her and husband Nick Cannon renew their wedding vows for their third wedding anniversary -- just one day after giving birth to a boy and a girl.

Being one of the few people to see the children, Rev. Sharpton tells us the twins reflect both parents.

"I was very moved by Mariah and Nick's commitment to want their babies prayed over in their first 24-hours of their life and continue their annual tradition of renewing their marriage vows," 

"In a time where so many entertainment figures become captives of their success, their commitment to their spiritual life and wanting their beautiful twins born in that atmosphere is exemplary and worthy of admiration," the civil rights leader said.
