SOHH caught up with the Atlanta-based hit-maker yesterday at the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Music Conference in Atlanta and  got the exclusive insight into his work with R&B diva Mariah Carey. 

"I really haven't heard none of the other songs on Mariah's album but the one I brought is pretty hot," Toomp told SOHH. "It's gonna be a club banger. It's a little different working with Mariah. She usually writes her own stuff and when she goes into the booth there's usually nobody else there but her engineer. But what's crazy is the results are great. She's gone this far working like that so why try to change that?"
Mariah Carey's upcoming untitled album is set for release in the first quarter of 2008.

A Columbia Pictures spokesperson released a statement early Monday evening, which read: "This afternoon at approximately 3:45 PM, an accident occurred on the Universal Studios backlot while filming a scene for Columbia Pictures' upcoming film "You Don't Mess with The Zohan." 

"While we do not have a great deal of information to share at this time, we understand that two stuntmen were injured and both have been transported to a local hospital. The production company is cooperating fully with local officials on the scene. Our thoughts right now are with the stuntmen and their families and we hope that each recovers swiftly from their injuries."

The film, about an Israeli special agent who fakes his death in order to move to New York City and become a hairdresser, also stars Rob Schneider, Mariah Carey and Henry Winkler.

Then word leaked out that the creative hand behind his crooning, forlorn vocals actually belonged to one Amanda Ghost, a British singer-songwriter who was at the start of her own burgeoning performing career when she co-wrote the tune.

It attracted the attention of a host of major artists in the US; that subsequent No 1 record was a duet for Beyoncé and Shakira, "Beautiful Liar", which bagged the top spot in 32 countries.

The requests soon started flooding in. Could she write a single for the latest American Idol winner? No problem. How about a couple of songs for Whitney Houston's comeback album, collaborating with Mariah Carey, and acting as a sort of taste consultant for Liam Howlett on The Prodigy's upcoming release? It's a deal. Ghost has been busy on all of the above in the past 18 months.

She calls Jay-Z  a "really good friend". 
Her latest assignment is to give Beyoncé a country-and-western makeover for her next album. 
A few weeks ago, Ghost was in the studio with Beyoncé in New York.

Speaking at the launch of her new M fragrance in LA, she revealed: "I am so happy with the new tracks - there are 22 that we're trying to decide from.
"But the way I like to look at it is the last album was the main course, and the new one is the dessert!"

Mariah added she's set to embark on a worldwide tour.

She said: "We didn't get to Europe on the last tour and I was upset about that. I love England so much! We'll have to make it happen next time."

In the meantime, fans can watch Mimi on the new DVD of last year's Adventures Of Mimi tour.

"You smell a little like s'mores," Ellen DeGeneres said, welcoming the divine diva to her show Wednesday. 

"I'm not really a fragrance girl. I don't really like scents," Carey contended as she spritzed her host from head to toe with her new perfume, M by Mariah Carey. "But, the company was like, 'We want this to be a representation of you.' " 

The songstress worked closely with perfumers to arrive at both her signature scent as well as the pretty purple bottle which is topped by – you guessed it – a butterfly. "The marshmallow element you smelled before is the top note and was a subliminal thing – just to give you little campfire memories," she explained of her first-ever fragrance. 

"My signature scent of course, is gin and Marlboros," countered a deadpan DeGeneres. "When you come home [with it on], they're like, 'You've been out. ... No, I have Ellen's perfume on!' " 

Though she'll smell yummy, Carey's hectic schedule will keep her from having a true Thanksgiving this year. "I'm working," she told DeGeneres. "Though I really want to learn how to cook a turkey. It can't be that big of a deal, it just seems like one, to me."

The campaign is designed to appeal to a generation of young, aspiring consumers who take their online persona as seriously as their real-world presence. Taking branded entertainment to new heights, the campaign offers innovative in-world experiences that build strong connections to the M by Mariah Carey fragrance and to Ford Models.

Beginning Monday, viewers can go to http://www.vmodelsearch.mtv.com to create their own customized avatar, which they'll use on their quest to become the world's first-ever virtual model. Participants will experience opportunities to "meet" in-world with a roster of Ford Models' experts who will provide invaluable beauty and styling tips on everything from fashion, skincare, hair, and makeup -- of which all can apply to the real world. Viewers are then given a virtual bottle of M by Mariah Carey -- complete with a spray animation -- along with a Ford Models portfolio book to carry throughout the virtual world. Ford Models' digital video content containing similar fashion and beauty insights will also be available 24 hours a day for viewing. The campaign was designed in conjunction with MTV's Integrated Marketing Group and Elizabeth Arden's media communications agency, PHD.

The multi-faceted campaign engages Hills viewers across all MTV screens, from on-air to online and in the virtual world. To drive awareness for the campaign, MTV will air :30-second Elizabeth Arden/MTV co-branded spots during several episodes of The Hills beginning Monday, Nov. 19th, pointing viewers to co-branded microsites. Three finalists will be chosen by an expert panel on January 14, 2008. The winner -- as determined by viewer votes -- will be announced on-air on January 31, 2008.

The winning avatar becomes Ford Models' first-ever virtual world model, the fresh new face of a marketing campaign for MTV's virtual worlds, and the star of a :30-second Elizabeth Arden/MTV co-branded spot.

Ellen will continue to tape her show in LA and return to New York at a later date, the source told Access.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Ellen DeGeneres canceled one show, the day the Writers Guild of America strike began. She crossed the picket line the day after her lone cancellation.

The Writers Guild of America, East, reacted with disappointment, after Ellen crossed the picket line to resume taping her show.

In a statement issued to Access Hollywood on Sunday, the WGAE said she would not be welcome in NYC.

“In anticipation of her plans to tape shows in New York City on November 19th and 20th, the Writers Guild of America, East is extremely disappointed to see that Ellen has chosen not to stand with writers during the strike,” a rep for the WGAE said in the statement. “Ellen’s peers who host comedy/variety shows have chosen to support the writers and help them get a fair contract, Ellen has not. On her first show back, Ellen said she loves and supports her writers, but her actions prove otherwise.”

Ellen herself has reacted to the criticism saying she supports her writers, but she also has a duty to her audience.

“I support the writers and hope that they get everything they’re asking for. And I hope it works out soon. In the meantime, people have traveled across the country. They’ve made plans. They’re here. I want to do everything I can to make your trip enjoyable and give you a show,” she said during a show taping.

Lattanzi wanted her to be the first artist he signed to his new label, so he and his partner, Monte Lipman, traveled to Los Angeles to try finding someone to give them the money to record her. 
They wrote a proposal and a business plan, and wore suits and ties to their first meeting with a stock trader whom they figured had money to spare. 

“We must have looked like idiots,” Lattanzi said, laughing at the memory. “The guy just chewed us up.” 
“Why would I give you a hundred grand when I can take a hundred grand and actually make money with it?” the guy asked them. 

Nevertheless, he liked Lattanzi and Lipman, and said he’d like to help them in the future, but the two signed a different artist a short time later and forgot about the whole thing, Lattanzi said. 

Lipman wound up getting a job with a record label and he’s now the president of Universal Records. 
Lattanzi took a different road. From his home studio, he fed record companies with an endless stream of material and artists to sign. 
He worked with artists like Steve Vai, Wyclef Jean, Jewel, Nick Lachey, Jessica Simpson, Smashmouth and Robbie Williams.

This is the full experience - you even get the exchanges with the crowd, including a touching description of why Mariah has to sing 'Hero' even if it isn't her favourite song or the moment when one lucky fan gets to come on stage for a hug. It's a blessed relief to enjoy the show as it was, not cut to pieces or stuffed with taped features that disrupt the flow of the concert.

The set list is safe but solid. It's all the hits that stormed the charts. Commercial, popular and what keeps the crowd cheering from start to finish. Sure, some of the album cuts would have been nice. But the tour was more a celebration of one of the greatest music comebacks in history. Mariah is pulling out the weapons that made her #1 and when times got tough, brought her back there. She knows it too. I was genuinely surprised by her improved stage presence. She's come a lot further from her 2003 days. She now seems more relaxed and happy on stage. She's still posing like a killer catwalk model of course - and looking fantastic while doing it. But she's absolutely radiant on stage, for the first time really loving being up on that stage performing for the audience.

Of course that audience came for 'The Voice' as will anyone watching at home. Fair play - these vocals (for my money anyway) are not dubbed. These are stripped right from the concert. They aren't her best vocals, they aren't her worst. They are more raw, more passionate and a little looser. Best example is her rendition of 'Vision Of Love'. To me, this record always sounds as fresh as the day it was first released. The word timeless dosent do this classic justice. But Mariah experiments with her rendition. Its not entirely successful and demonstrates her weaker moments towards the climax but it shows her willing to shake things up for a more interesting listen.

Speaking of interesting, the camera have really tried to visually keep things interesting on the eye not just the ear. Filmed concerts can get quite boring without some good visuals to hold the attention. There are some excellent sweeps across both stages that take in the scope of the venue. Some nice cinematic ones too with 'Fly Like A Bird' as well, where the camera starts on the floor of the crowd, moves forward and upwards at the stage to Mariah and the army of gospel singers. Some missed opportunities on stuff like 'Heartbreaker' and 'Honey' I felt. When you've got a swarm of dancers coming down some elegant stairs, you want to see it and not crowd clips. Credit to them, they made it fun to watch and got as many varied camera angles as possible.

There's more than just the concert of course - we have extras! One of the more interesting ones is the Juke Box. Basically you have 12 credits and can create your own set list. You decide what order the songs will play in. Quite a novel feature and one I hadn't seen before. All the concerts skids are included on 'Lovers & Haters' for some comedy value. There's the karaoke on six tracks, that you can have with or without Mariah singing. The Behind The Scenes feature is about ten minutes long, you get some interviews with the Tatums and Rachel, some Michael as well as Mariah herself on the tour bus. Weirdly, Trey's name is also spelt wrong - Tre? - more than once.

The better features are on the second disc. The documentary is brilliant, you actually get some fresh information that aren't just the usual recycled sound bites. The set designs are discussed, proposed/rejected concepts, the whole thought process and experience of performing on the second stage, meeting Rachel and all the dancers, the backing singers (who are very playful in their interviews), rehearsals and bloopers on stage including her near costume malfunction.

There is a discussion on the set list for the concert. This is very insightful. Randy Jackson discussed 'Vanishing', what song Mariah likes to open the show with, how she experiments with merging certain remixed songs ('Heartbreaker', 'My All' and 'Dreamlover'). This part is brilliant - you hear Mariah discuss the history of the mixes. creatively, and she mentions she does want to go back to Australia. Good news for all loyal fans down under.

She also touches on celebrities in the audience, the tragic passing of ODB (rest in peace), some of the moments from other tours (fighting Bianca on the Rainbow tour, etc), plus the experience of being on stage with Trey, Boys II Men, Da Brat and Jay Z across the various shows. Her discussion on 'Hero' is very, very interesting. She touches on the need to perform it. She makes it clear its not her favourite (quote on quote "corny") but knows that its helped her. Mostly its helped her fans and many people are coming to hear just that song for the power of its message. She also discusses 'Make It Happen' returning to the set list through fan popularity and the thrill of performing 'We Belong Together' at the finale since it changed her career and is many couples anthem. Cute moment when she discusses Patti LaBell and the 'Butterfly Outro' - she wants to leave the stage singing like she does to the song that most sums her up.

I cannot stress how great this documentary is. Its worth the price of the DVD alone. Mariah discusses pretty much all the songs she performs on the show. I find the creative process behind why what songs were chosen and what it feels like to perform those songs live. If you do, this 60 minutes of footage will have you enthralled. Its about the music and its for the fans. Speaking of which, the fan messages near the end are cute. I love the girl who calls Mariah an angel from above, who helped her get through losing her father. Bless her.

If I need to see this anymore, then will cap it - we get to see Jacks's VIP crib

Mariah sounded okay on OSD to me....Boys II Men, a bit off or muffled. But it was okay. I liked the part near the end where it looked like Mariah was about to cry. In the crowd, there's a cut to one poor guy in tears and (oddly) talking on his phone! 

The rollercoaster intro is in there. Full screen and when it hits the end of the tracks, then it goes to the venue and Mariah arriving on stage. 

She is interacting with the crowd loads and makes jokes. She notes the Australian fans when she's on the second stage. Giggles that no one knows Cant Let Go so she'll stop singing, then continues when she hears everyone singing back. Its all there. That was one of my fave things - they kept her speaking to the crowd all the way through.

Carter sold the Rocawear brand to Iconix Brand Group Inc. in April, but remains involved in the business, and is expected to be the guiding force in the fragrance creation, said Arden’s president and chief executive officer E. Scott Beattie during the firm’s earnings call Friday.

The beauty firm's earnings went from red to black in the first quarter ended Sept. 30, compared to a year-ago loss. The company earned $350,000, or a penny a diluted share, compared to a loss of $1.3 million, or 5 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. Excluding charges related to restructuring of Arden’s European operations, net earnings were $1.1 million. Sales gained 6.7 percent to $271.8 million, from $254.8 million a year ago, driven by the introduction of the M by Mariah Carey fragrance this fall and the growth of the Elizabeth Arden brand in international markets. Beattie noted that international sales account for 65 percent of the Elizabeth Arden brand's business.

E. Scott Beattie, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Elizabeth Arden Inc, commented, "We are pleased with our first quarter results, which were led largely by the strength of our international business. Net sales of our international business grew by 18% this quarter and 12% in constant currencies. Specifically, revenues in China and in emerging markets increased by 75% and 40%, respectively. 
We also delivered 15% sales growth and significant improvement in profitability in our European operations. These results were in part due to the strong performance of the Elizabeth Arden brand in international markets. With nearly 65% of the total sales of Elizabeth Arden-branded products sold internationally, we expect the positive momentum behind the brand to continue due to strong global economic growth." 
"In North America, our U.S. mass business was up 14%, on top of strong comparable growth last year, and our U.S. Department Stores business declined by 25%, driven by the timing of launches and changes in the retail calendar. 

Much of this decrease is expected to be made up in the second quarter with the launch of PREVAGE Night Cream and the performance of the M by Mariah Carey and Britney Spears believe fragrances. It is important to note that the results in the first quarter for our U.S. Department Stores business were essentially on plan."

Heroes comment: I was a lil' confused with this after the October 30 news, I asked a financial specialist what was the difference between this news and the one from 3 days ago.  In fact, Elizabeth Arden anounces the grown of the sales in their first quarter (fical year) and expected sales partially due to "M" and international markets.  The first article was about a financial group which warned their clients about investing in EA shares as the trend of celebrity fragrances (including "M") was over, in comparison to a few years ago when few celebrities had a fragrance.  Hope it's clear, anyway I'm not a "finance" guy and will never be, the only thing that counts is Mariah is happy and proud of her creation

The "Celebrity Fit Club" star is currently in custody and has been charged with felony aggravated assault. She'll be arraigned in the next 72 hours. Da Brat was previously arrested in 2000 for allegedly pistol whipping a woman in an Atlanta nightclub -- she pleaded guilty and was put on probation.
