Uh-oh, not that good Billboard review for
"Say Somethin'"
Say Somethin'MARIAH CAREY Producer(s): The Neptunes Genre: POP Label: Island (album track) Just as we are singing mighty praises over Mariah Carey's sterling new gospel ballad release, "Fly Like a Bird"—in which the re-crowned diva delivers a consummate vocal—Island Def Jam distracts radio with a second, simultaneous single intended for rhythmic top 40. "Say Somethin' " is apparently meant to be an event record, a collaboration with Pharrell Williams and Snoop Dogg, accompanied by a glam videoclip that follows a Louis Vuitton-draped Carey traipsing across Paris. But underneath the surface, the scantly produced drum'n'bass album track is simply a series of gimmicks, the kind employed to boost lesser artists' careers. The melody line is palpable and Carey's vocal is appreciable, but "Somethin' " is mostly a reminder of a time when Carey required others to boost her chart heft. Those days are over. "Fly Like a Bird" is a classic; why muddy the water with this release? —Chuck Taylor Source: Chuck Taylor for Billboard (All rights reserved) Posted on March the 31st. |
Music sales fall 3 pct in 2005, Coldplay top
album
Global music revenue fell 3 percent to $21 billion in 2005 as surging digital sales failed to make up for a continued decline in physical formats like CDs, according to data from the industry's trade association. Digital music sales nearly tripled to $1.1 billion from $400 million the year before, split evenly between online services and mobile phone downloads, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) said in a report on Friday. The music industry, damaged by illegal downloading since the creation of Napster in the late 1990s, has fought back by aggressively targeting file-trading and offering legal alternatives such as Apple's market-leading iTunes Music Store. Coldplay's "X&Y" was the top-selling album of the year with more than 8 million copies sold, followed by Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" and rapper 50 Cent's "The Massacre." The IFPA said it had shifted to reporting the wholesale revenue received by music companies, rather than the retail price of music sold to consumers, because it more accurately reflects the shifting trend to digital music. On a retail basis, 2005 music sales fell 2.4 percent to $33 billion. Physical formats such as CDs and music DVDs fell 6.7 percent by revenue and 8 percent in the number of units sold. Source: Yahoo! News (All rights reserved) (extract) Heroes comment: In Belgium music sales fell too, but what can you expect when you charge 4 to 5 Euro ($ 6 US) for a 2 track cardboard sleeve single and 15 to 20 Euro ( $ 24 US) for an album. And Mariah on another radio
Mariah was on Boston's KISS 108 : She talked about the Grammy's and how she was indeed a little upset she only won 3 Awards. Then she talked about the new video, about her and Pharrell in Paris and how paparazzi followed them. Remember how Kanye said there would be a problem if he didn't won the best album Award on the Grammy's.... well, at one moment Mariah talked like Kanye and said: "If I don't freakin' win a freakin' MTV Award for this video, I'm goin' to get mad, or would I say "there's gonna be a problem" and she laughed. The DJ then said "Oh you're throwing a lil' Kanye at us". They further talked about other stuffs. Source: Andy by e-mail. Posted on March the 31st. |

Will Mariah's collab with Freeway be on his
album?
A while ago it was reported that Mariah would be featured on a track of Freeway's upcoming album " Free At Last". But, it seems Freeway scratched most of the tracks. For now only 50, Black Thought from the Roots, Lil Scrappy, Young Buck and Scarface are confirmed to appear on the album. Let's hope the track with Mariah is still planned to be released on "Free At Last" and if not.... please Freeway, release it on a mixtape!!!!! Posted on March the 30th. |

"Tennessee" is due to begin this summer
Aaron Woodley said in a Canadian interview that the production of the movie is due to begin this summer. He also said: "The writer, Russell Schaumburg, is terrific, and this is a straightforward tearjerker of a drama. It’s told in broad strokes—something they can relate to in the red states. Carey's Broadway Christmas dream coming true
Mariah Carey's been dreaming of a Broadway Christmas since late 2004, when she originally announced plans for a holiday musical, and now she's finally making progress with her plan. "I don't want to mention anything definitive until things are signed," she told MTV Radio, "but there's a very big company that just signed on to develop the project with me." Carey said the musical — which she'll create, produce and star in — will incorporate music from her 1994 album, Merry Christmas, as well as new material. "It's probably going to be a movie first," she said. "I don't want to say a television movie, because it's not like a cheesy network movie, but then it's going to be made for the Broadway production. So the TV movie will set the stage for the stage." ... Source: MTV (All rights reserved) Posted on March the 28th. |

Jermaine Dupri Talks About Mariah & The
Grammys
In the upcoming issue of Blender Magazine (which hits newsstands on April 18th), there is an interview with Jermaine Dupri in which Mariah is mentioned several times. Here are excerpts from the article: "He was a millionaire at 19. He's written or produced half the songs on the radio. Mariah Carey owes her comeback to him. So why is JERMAINE DUPRI convinced everyone is against him?" (...) In the middle of dinner, Dupri's assistant leans over and hands him yet another cellphone: "It's MC" It takes Blender a couple of minutes to figure out that "M.C." is Mariah Carey, whose remarkable 2005 career resuscitation Dupri largely engineered. The Grammys are coming up in a couple of weeks, and Dupri and Carey are co-hosting a blowout party after the ceremony, but based on the snatches of conversation that drift into earshot, Dupri isn't doing party planning so much as soothing his friend's pre-Grammy jitters. "Madonna?" he exclaims at one point in his lightly lilting Georgia twang. "Don't you worry about Madonna. She just making that do-da-do-da music." he laughs imitating a corny house beat. (...) "He's the most important producer in R&B, a kind of Motown for the hip-hop era," says Mariah Carey. "He's got all these great rhythmic and melodic ideas, and he puts them together in a way that's magical." Carey's astonishing 2005 turnaround now serves as inspiration and blueprint for labels attempting similar large-scale reclamation projects. (...) Dupri has other reasons for feeling itchy today.
The Grammys took place a couple of weeks back, and he's clearly taken the
voters' snubbing of Mariah Carey personally. "How can you not give Mariah
Carey an award on the telecast?" he sneers. "Especially when you used her
to sell the show in the first place! This is Mariah fucking Carey!" To
add insult to the injury, the Dupri/Carey ultra-exclusive Grammy after-party
at the Beverly Hills mansion of supermarket magnate Ron Burkle was broken
up by the police. To Dupri, it's further sign of industry disrespect. "It
was a beautiful party. The guest list was incredible: Jay-Z, Beyonce, Britney,
Eddie Murphy, Chris Tucker, Stevie Wonder. And the cops gonna come? Fuck!"

Jasmine's Juice
By Jasmine Dotiwala ‘The resulting shots of Mariah and Pharrell flirting are electric’ A Making Of The Video shoot for MTV with one A-list artist is usually enough to excite and blow my mind. But two A-listers in the same shoot? It’s like a gleeful high you can’t even express! You can’t imagine my exhilaration when I was invited to a video shoot for Mariah's new single Say Something featuring not just her highness but also the legends that are Snoop Dogg and Pharrell Williams (PW). Apparently Snoop’s schedule was so full he couldn't make it to Paris so we are shooting his scenes in a Los Angeles studio this week (and to be honest Mariah and Pharrell caused riots all over the city so Snoop would've just escalated it to uncontrollable proportions). MC said: “If you guys think I'm a diva and I have requirements, Snoop is like next NEXT level - hip-hop king. His requirements to get to Paris are beyond platinum editions, they're like beyond ultra platinum editions, they're like diamond editions. So we love Snoop, but we wish he had been here as well.” The shoot took place on two typically beautiful days in Paris where Mariah and Pharrell play the part of a superstar couple spending a romantic day in the city that love built. Driving around in their silver grey Maserati car, they recreate the famous JFK and Marilyn Monroe moment, singing, frolicking and dancing together in the rain on the Alexandria Bridge and walking along the Champs-Elysees. They also shop till they drop in the biggest most glamourous Louis Vuitton store, before returning to their hotel suite which was meant to be Pharrell's bachelor pad but was really Mariah's hotel suite (sshhh – you didn't hear that from me) for some half dressed steamy frolicking (Mariah in a black swimsuit, Pharrell in just a wife beater vest). The couple pulled out all their acting skills to flirt and play happy couples and the resulting shots were electric. Even Director Paul Hunter who famously never gives interviews was so pleased he spoke to MTV at length. We all stayed at the Four Seasons George V Hotel (where I began my career on The Word years ago when I interviewed Jean Claude Van Damme and did a ballet pas de deux with him). I was surprised that Pharrell gave me an amazingly happy animated interview, as he is notorious with English journalists for being awkward and unforthcoming in interviews. He seemed genuinely shocked when I told him that we usually dreaded speaking to him. After a lengthy conversation it seems Pharrell was so hurt and angered by the News Of The World sex story scandal about him and his friend Jade Jagger a couple of years ago that he then hated all British press. I told him he couldn't tar us all because of one bad apple and that MTV and tabloids were different. He replied that MTV were just as bad and a girl at TRL in London had asked him a “disrespectful and f***ed up question which vexed him about girls with weaves” so I apologised for us all but advised he should take tabloid interest as a gift and a curse, after all how many black male celebrities are the nationals interested in? Not many? The only reason Kanye got ’nuff press last month was due to 70 naked golden girls! Anyway I've strayed, I told Pharrell he'd been very professional on the shoot, especially continuing to sing in the pouring rain, he admitted: “I was freezing my nuts off today, but it was fun and this song is something that I'm super passionate about, it took a minute, but it's finally coming out so when you really love something it's like, the endurance just comes. So, for me, singing in the rain and being cold… I mean at some point I'd be just like ‘okay, I can’t do it anymore’, but yes we were out there for a long time”. As we shot scene after scene the French fans gathered in their hundreds screaming hysterically and police escorts were needed to keep everything safe. At one point there were paparazzi chasing them in their cars driving through the tunnels trying to photograph MC and PW! It reminded me of the Princess Diana tragedy but I bit my lip not wanting to tarnish the vibe. The shots looked sexy, beautiful and iconic and you know where you can see the video first right? Look out for the Making of the Video for Mariah's Say Something featuring Snoop and Pharrell at the beginning of April all over your MTV! Holla! Rest in peace to Flying Tiger Golden Child who passed away March 4 – Miami will never be the same without your hustling skills. We loved you. We'll miss you. I know you're sweet-talking the angels in heaven - God bless you. And RIP Brian Daley – or DJ Swing, as the world
knew you. You’re at peace now, you were our corageous souljah. I know you’re
in heaven entertaining the angels with your sweet music and making them
smile as you did us. All my love.

Urgent for UK fans: Channel 4 Show - Mariah
fans wanted
Here's a message from Mike Worsley from Princess Productions, Channel 4: I am working on a new pilot reality show for Channel 4, called "Watching You" and am emailing to see if you or any of your friends would like to take part. "Watching You" is very different to the average reality show. For starters, it's a breakfast show, so is very warm in tone and we are not just looking for crazy, in your face reality TV types. Rather than seeing people coming together in a Big Brother style house, we place a camera in one room of each our five contributors for one week. We're looking for a wide range of people to take part - from nuclear families to student flatshares - but one group of people that we are very keen to feature are "major" fans. Basically we would like to include within the show, and go into the home of, a person who is a major fan of a pop act or icon, and we have a shortlist of favourites, including Mariah Carey. We would very much like to meet with people this week as we will be filming this programme over the next three weeks. Many thanks in advance for your help and I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. Mariah on Kidd Kraddick in the Morning
Casey for MariahDaily did a better compilation of the infos posted on fomm than I could do myself, so here it is: Earlier today, Mariah was interviewed on the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show. "Say Somethin'" was played throughout the interview while Mariah, Kidd, and Kellie discussed various topics including the release of two singles at once, the GRAMMY Awards, the Louis Vuitton modeling rumors, and American Idol. Mariah spoke about Pharrell's vocal performance on "Say Somethin'" and explained that he sung the lower parts during the verses, although it's difficult to hear him. So, during the show, Kidd decided to sing the low parts while Mariah sang her parts. While on the subject of the GRAMMY Awards and how they've shafted her, Mariah mentioned that everyone said she seemed distraught during the 1996 show, but insisted that she really wasn't. She also expressed that she thought "One Sweet Day" deserved an award. When the Louis Vuitton modeling rumors were brought up, it wasn't clear whether Mariah was just acting coy, or really didn't know anything about it. Kellie declared that American Idol should do a Mariah Carey theme one night. Kidd added that contestants would have so many songs to choose from. Kidd had Randy Jackson's phone number and decided to give him a call during the show. He and Mariah left a message for Randy that he needs to get her a theme night. Mariah's figure was also discussed and she talked about doing water aerobics with her trainer from St. Bart's. MC also mentioned that she did a diet consisting of soup, spinach, and swordfish. She said she got so sick of swordfish that she was like, "Can we get some different fish in here?" Mariah added that she's just a muscular girl, even when she's in great shape like this. She said that someone could hit some of these fragile stars in the leg and they'd fall over, but if you hit her in the leg, your arm would probably break. Then she said, "And I say that in the most humblest of ways." After the interview, Kidd spoke about how anxious they were before, but said that she was so pleasant. Kellie mentioned that Mariah's reputation for being late preceded her, but said that once you talk to her, she makes it well worth your time. In related news, it is believed that Mariah will
be interviewed for the Valentine in the Morning show on Tuesday, March
28.

Will Mariah attend this year VMAs????
MTV's VMAs Return to NYC Some of pop music's biggest artists will be forced to ditch their yachts for a more common form of transportation to this year's MTV Video Music Awards. Artists like Diddy, Mariah Carey, and whichever cleverly-suited rock bands MTV2 chooses to honor will step back into their limos once again to make their entrance at the annual awards show when it returns to New York City. After two years in Miami, the VMAs are coming back to Radio City Music Hall on Thursday, August 31 at 8 P.M. ET/PT. "We are proud that MTV has made New York City its home for the past 25 years, and once again has selected the Big Apple as host for the 23rd Annual MTV Video Music Awards," said Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in a statement. "An event of this magnitude and cultural importance will generate tremendous media exposure and with the thousands of visitors expected will yield a positive economic impact projected in excess of $25 million." Which is about what we can expect Jay-Z to spend to make a grand entrance. Performers and presenters will be announced soon. Source: Spin (All rights reserved) Posted on March the 24th. |
Pharrell Brings Snoop And Mariah Together
He plays musical matchmaker to the stars… Snoop Dogg has revealed his guest spot on Mariah Carey’s new single Say Something was brought about by Pharrell Williams. “We were working in the same studio. I was in the front end and she was in the back,” Snoop told MTV News “And Pharrell actually made it happen. He was like, ‘Come down the hallway and get on this mic right now.’" And it was down to another superstar mate to give him direction. “Nelly was there too," he says. "He gave me direction on which way to take my rap.” Despite her reputation as being notoriously hard to please, Mariah’s very happy with the results. “Snoop sings and raps and he was one of the first people to bring that style to the forefront. He took it to a new level. So that’s why its great to have him on the this track doing what he does so wonderfully,” she says. Mariah let MTV behind the scenes for a Making
The Video which you’ll be able to see in early April.

Will the "Intel" commercial hit Europe?
Dish and Chips She'S the biggest-selling female artist of all time, but Mariah Carey isn't content with shifting millions of CDs. The curvy beauty, 35, who is hotly tipped to play the lead in gritty new movie Tennessee, is soon to hit our small screens in her first-ever TV ad - for Intel Centrino Duo, a whizzy new computer chip thingie... We're told: "Mariah's asked to do commercials every day but when she heard that Lucy Liu, Seal and John Cleese had all done the Intel adverts, she agreed." Mariah, Pharrell Hit Paris For Romantic Getaway
In New Clip
By Jennifer Vineyard, with additional reporting by Jasmine Dotiwala Superstar pair spend day shopping, cuddling in City of Lights for 'Say Somethin' ' video. Mariah Carey's got a new man on her arm — and leg — in her latest music video, which she shot last week in Paris. For "Say Somethin'," Pharrell Williams plays Carey's oh-so-patient boyfriend who takes the singer sightseeing and shopping for a romantic day on the town. "You know what was so great about being in Paris? Usually I'm inside a hotel room and I don't get to see anything. This time, I finally got to drive around the city, walk around the city and hang out," Carey said. "I love Paris; I love the electricity this city has. And it gave me a new perspective on this song, which is one of the first songs I recorded for The Emancipation of Mimi. It's got a hot vibe to it, when you're driving around in the car on a normal, rainy day in Paris, driving around in circles in a Maserati — who doesn't do that every day?" Well, just about everyone else — but then again, Carey's not playing just anyone in her new clip. Carey and Williams are a superstar couple, trying to find romantic interludes when they're not being chased by the paparazzi in his Maserati — at least, that's what the video's treatment called for. But on the first day of the shoot, director Paul Hunter had to contend not just with his fake paparazzi, hired for the scene, but real ones as well, who chased after the pair on scooters. "That's just a regular day in the life for Mariah, probably," Williams said. "I'm a low-key guy, so there's no paparazzi under the studio console, or in my apartment, or jumping out of my pool. I'm just not into it. So it's weird when you have these people running up, especially in Paris — they're on Vespas, doing wheelies, and it's wild." The chase being real, it made it that much easier
for Carey and Williams to get into character as a couple looking to get
away from it all. For one of their escapes, the two frolic on the Le Pont
de Paris bridge overlooking the river Seine.
"Obviously, being able to take your pick of anything
in the store and have the whole store shut down for you is every girl's
dream," Carey said. "You know, just a pretty standard day in the life of
anybody. No, just joking. There was a time in my life I only had one pair
of shoes, so that's my justification for having that little perk on the
job."
After the shopping spree, Williams takes Carey home to his "bachelor pad" (really her hotel suite), where they kick back with a few Dalmatian puppies. "I thought the puppies would add cuteness to it," she said. "But Paul was like, 'Make it more hot, make it more hot!' And someone else was going, 'Sit on his lap,' and I'm like, 'Ask me nicely! Produce a diamond ring or something, for me to sit on a lap!' No, it was fun. I don't have a problem sitting on anybody's lap. I just wanted a better invitation, for the sentiment of the song." If Carey needed a better invitation, so did Snoop,
who's featured on the song but not in the Paris scenes. His part in the
clip was shot separately on Sunday in Los Angeles.

Buccweet's
"I Like It" featuring Mariah Carey
Since dubcnn posted the track, there was a controversy among the Mariah fans to know if it was really Mariah in the joint. Well guys, it is Mariah. Buccweet gave an interview to Go 4 Hit Promotions and here's what he had to say about that, you can check the full interview here. The track "I Like It" is already makin' his way, the joint got a Mariah Carey sample, why did you choose it and from which song is the sample taken? I chose the sample cuz it was hot! The vocals didn't come from a song cuz they were exclusive. Excellent review
Say Somethin' - Mariah Carey featuring Snoop Dogg From Bill Lamb Guide Rating - 4,5 stars The Bottom Line At last, in my opinion, the best song from The Emancipation of Mimi will finally make it to the radio as the 4th (or 5th if you count the added "Don't Forget About Us") single from the album. The song will be accompanied by a high profile video shot in Paris. Look for Mariah Carey back in the pop top 10 soon. Pros: Perfect vocal pairing between Mariah Carey and Snoop Dogg. Smooth, sly production by the Neptunes. Dance beats nearly ready for the club. Cons: No complaints Description: Gently percolating beats. Mariah Carey at her seductive best. Snoop Dogg answering back with encouragement. Guide Review - Say Somethin' - Mariah Carey featuring Snoop Dogg "Say Somethin'" has been mentioned as a possibility for the next single from Mariah Carey's 6-million-selling The Emancipation of Mimi nearly every time a new single has been released. However, it has been held up for unknown reasons. One explanation that was tossed out was because Mariah Carey does not share production credits on the song like she does on most of her material. "Say Somethin'" is credited solely to the Neptunes as producers. Whatever the reason, it is here at last and it is an event. The song doesn't amount to much more than a midtempo seduction, but with the near perfect vocal match of Mariah Carey and rapper Snoop Dogg nothing more is needed. Carey was one of the first mainstream pop artists to openly express her love for hip hop and collaborate with hip hop artists. Now that these collaborations are the norm Mariah pulls together the Neptunes, arguably the top production team in the business, and Snoop Dogg, already a rap living legend and still one of the most distinctive voices in hip hop. The combination is magic. You will be singing this tune and dancing along for months to come. Source: About Top 40 / Pop (All rights reserved) Posted on March the 17th. |
Mary J. Blige wants to tour with Mariah or
Jamie Fox
I didn't know the music industry was in such difficulties that great artists can't tour alone anymore. A little article about Mary J. Blige on andPOP, states the following: "Fans immediately called for a tour once The Breakthrough hit store shelves. But before she goes on tour, Blige says she wants to make sure she's taking the right people along for the ride. Fellow veteran diva Mariah Carey and ambitious crooner Jamie Fox are among her top picks for consideration." C'mon, it's Mariah we are talking about here, Mary J. with all respect, I can't even believe your hesitation. On my side, I hope the music industry didn't become that bad, that Mariah can't have her own tour anymore. Oh well, wait and see..... it's only an article. Posted on March the 16th. |

Mimi Valdes of VIBE: The Examination of Mimi
The ride to the top has been an exciting one for Mimi Valdes, Editor-In-Chief of VIBE magazine. As a fresh-faced college graduate, Valdes' journalism career was birthed at said urban magazine. While her professional path has had its fair share of twist and turns, the compass has always lead back to VIBE. AllHipHop.com: Why hasn’t the other Mimi – Mariah Carey – appeared on VIBE’s cover since her resurgence? Mimi Valdes: Mariah is a perfect example of somebody that is loved by this audience – myself included, love her, love her, love her. But, in the history of VIBE, she’s had three covers - the worst selling covers. They just have not sold. When this album came out, even though it’s clearly her most “VIBE” album, we were thinking, “Is she one of those artists that you love the music, but don’t necessarily want to read about her.” Not to say that we would never do her, but… her next album, just because there is more of a story with the comeback, we could try to figure out something that would be interesting for people to read about. That is the biggest misconception about covers, they are not about people who are [selling the most], they are about who are people interested in reading about. If you feel like you’ve read everything there is to know about Mariah – you’re not going to pick up the magazine. You’ll pick up her album, you’ll watch her videos, but your not gonna pick up the magazine. Everybody thinks they can run a magazine. I’ll tell you what, Kanye West, last year – worst selling cover. Mariah tried a duet on one of Thicke's songs
If the name "Thicke" sounds familiar to you, but you can't put your finger on where you heard it, don't worry: you have reason to. You may remember his 2003 video for "When I Get You Alone," which features a long-haired Robin Thicke riding a bike through New York City and crooning over a Beethoven sample. BallerStatus.net: Do you think your last album was slept on? Robin Thicke: I have to hope that it was [laughs]. The people who do love it, love it a lot. I made a lot of friends in the business, like Lil' Wayne, who ended up flipping one of the songs on his album, to Mariah Carey, who tried to turn one of the songs into a duet. So artistically, I think that it had something to say, if all these people who are pretty talented [liked it]. But, maybe it wasn't ready for a mainstream audience. One more Award for Mariah!!!!!!
Mariah picked up the "Scott Zweisel Silver Award" in the "San Francisco Chronicle" Wine Competition. The 2006 professional judging took place in Cloverdale at the Citrus Fairgrounds from January 10-13. 55 judges from around the country participated in evaluating over 3300 entries. This judging which began over twenty years ago with a few entries from local wineries is now the largest competition of American wine in the world. Mariah won with her " Mariah Vineyards 2002 Mariah Mendocino Ridge" which's sold at $35.00 All infos about the Awards can be found here. Related article: Mariah Carey, Now In Bottle Form Carey’s latest venture. Her own vineyard. It's sweet like "Honey" and it calls out to you, "We Belong Together." The wine bottles, that is. Mariah Pulls Out The Big Guns
Mariah Carey is not letting any grass grow under her feet, now that she’s a multiple Grammy winner with a monster-selling album. Carey has added to her arsenal of protectors and defenders none other than New York record biz attorney Allen Grubman—the very same Grubman she fired in 1997 after splitting with her husband, former Sony Music chief Tommy Mottola. The dope here is that Carey is still using her longtime legal eagle Don Passman, who guided her through the whole "Glitter" debacle and helped negotiate her $50 million payday from EMI Music. But Carey, I’m told, feels that she was underpaid by Island/Def Jam for her "Emancipation of Mimi" album. The CD is not only the biggest of 2005, but the biggest of her long and illustrious career, selling millions of copies and yielding several hit singles. At a time when the record biz is dead, "Mimi" was the consistent chart seller week after week last year. Passman, sources say, while good, does not have the inside track Grubman has with Universal Music Group’s Doug Morris. Only Morris can OK what should be a record-setting money deal for Carey. And only Grubman can get Morris to agree to something like that. Irony is abound here, however: Grubman made his fortune and reputation on his close relationship with Mottola, who managed, recorded, and married Carey until she divorced him. When Carey cut ties to Mottola, she cut them to Grubman as well. Bringing Grubman back is a surprise, but it shows that Carey is not fooling around, and isn’t letting personal feelings mix with business. As a smart guy in the music biz said to me yesterday, "Remember, it isn’t the money, stupid. It’s the money, stupid." Duh! And Mariah is maybe the one artist this year who actually deserves it. Mariah: “Snoop’s More Of A Diva Than Me”
Carey dishes on rapper's backstage demands... Mariah Carey says that Snoop Dogg has even more diva demands than the pop goddess herself. She was talking exclusively to MTV News on the set of her new video, Say Something, in which she stars with Pharrell Williams. But although Snoop collaborates on the song, getting him to appear in the video was just too much. “If you guys think I’m a diva, Snoop is like next-level hip-hop king,” says Mariah. “So his requirements to get to Paris are like, beyond platinum edition.” Source: MTV UK (All rights reserved) Posted on March the 15th. |
Snoop "HipHop King" or " diva"
Well not exactly, but according to a lil' interview Mariah did for MTV, Snoop wasn't in Paris for the shooting of the video 'cause his demands were to high. You can check the interview here. Click on "Pharrell & Mariah in Paris part 2" at Pharrell. Like I posted earlier, according to Laurent who lives near LA, they will shoot the part with Snoop on March the 15th. and 16th. in an hotel (info to be confirmed, but if I was in your shoes, guys, who lives near Hollywood, I would go take a look on Sunset Boulevard, you never know). Mariah featured on Busta's New Album?
Busta Rhymes The Big Bang Out: April 11th Rhymes spent three years putting the pieces together for The Big Bang, his first new album since 2002. First, he inked a deal with Dr. Dre's Aftermath label and worked on twenty songs with Dre. Then he brought in other top producers like the Neptunes, Timbaland, Scott Storch and Just Blaze to work on tracks, and lined up guests including Stevie Wonder, the late Rick James, Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey and Eminem. He says he had 170 songs by the time he released the album's first single, "Touch It," in late 2005. Then tragedy struck. At a February 5th video shoot, Rhymes' bodyguard Israel Ramirez was shot and killed as Rhymes stood nearby. "Everything I'm doing from this day forward is dedicated to Israel," says Rhymes, who has pledged to support Ramirez's family but so far has refused to cooperate with a police investigation. A final lineup for the album has not been set, but Rhymes says a handful of tracks are for certain. The next single, "This How We Do It Over Here," was produced by Dr. Dre and features Elliott. "It's specifically constructed to smash every club in existence," Rhymes says. He's also proud of "Into the Storm," which features Wonder's vocals, and the Dre-produced "Your Time Has Come." "Dre put the track together using the sound of a shovel going into dirt, dirt being poured onto a coffin and a heartbeat as the drum sound," Rhymes says. "It's about karma coming back to haunt you." The Gospel-drenched song stirred the emotions of Grammy viewers worldwide last month, when Mariah performed it onstage with a full brass section and Brooklyn’s 30-voice Love Fellowship Tabernacle Choir, under the direction of Grammy-winning Pastor Hezekiah Walker. The accompanying video will be shot in New York in late March. Source: Mariah Carey.com Posted on March the 14th. |
Rapper Jeezy arrested in shooting
Young Jeezy was arrested after an alleged shootout in South Beach involving some of his friends. The 28-year-old rapper, born Jay Jenkins, was charged early Saturday with two counts of carrying a concealed firearm without a permit, police said. Jenkins was with a group of men involved in a fight around 5:30 a.m. Friday, according to a police report. When a passer-by filming the fight refused to hand over his video camera, one of the men in the group began shooting, the report stated. Officers stopped both vehicles, and found a semiautomatic firearm under Jenkins' seat and another gun near the armrest when they searched his SUV. Young Jeezy, who sports a full set of gold teeth, has recorded collaborations with Jay-Z and Christina Milian and also leant his voice to a mix of Mariah Carey's track Shake It Off. Mariah: "someone told me I was losing my ass
- and I don’t want to lose that"
She may be toning up all her muscles and getting rid off all her excess weight, but Grammy Award winning singer Mariah Carey is apparently so terrified that her exercises will make her lose her butt, that she is soon going to slow her workout regimen down. The ‘Emancipation of Mimi’ singer said that even though she was proud of how tight her stomach had become as a result of her exercises, she was still going to slow down for someone had told her that she was losing her shapely behind. “I’ve been working out like mad - you can even punch me in the stomach and feel how tight that is. But I’ve gotta slow it down because the other day someone told me I was losing my ass - and I don’t want to lose that,” the New York Post quoted her, as telling The London Daily Mirror. Mariah is already working on new album
Like we all already thought, Mariah is working on an upcoming album. Now there's an article which confirms it: ""Songwriter/producer Bryan Michael Cox has been crafting quite a resume, anchored by his work on two Grammy Award-winning blockbusters, Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi". Though his reputation is building among the industry cognoscenti, Cox and his Blackbaby Entertainment production company are not exactly household names. And Cox is cool with that. "Producers are instrumental in making an artist popular, but I don't want to overshadow the artist," he says. "I don't jump into the video or the TV show; I'm not out there tap dancing. And I don't put a label on my sound. I only want to make records an artist can shine on." Cox says Usher is itching to get back in the studio. And there is the follow-up to Carey's comeback. Mariah will perform tonight!!!!!!
The annual Night Before party, held on Oscar eve at the Beverly Hills Hotel, continues its ascent as the hottest pre-Academy Awards ticket. This year's event has raised more than $6 million, up from $4 million last year. Proceeds from the party benefit the Motion Picture & Television Fund. The Night Before accounts for more than a third of the $15 million the MPTF has raised over the last year. Because of fire marshal-enforced safety requirements, guest list is limited to about 800. Among those who will be attending are Tom HanksTom Hanks and Rita WilsonRita Wilson, Tom CruiseTom Cruise and Katie HolmesKatie Holmes, George ClooneyGeorge Clooney, Jamie FoxxJamie Foxx, Hilary SwankHilary Swank and Night Before host Jeffrey KatzenbergJeffrey Katzenberg. Producers, directors, studio executives and lawyers also will be part of the crowd. The only non-invitees are press agents and members of the press -- an attempt to keep things more personal and low-key. The Night Before was started by Katzenberg and Variety in 2002 as a charitable solution to what was always a fairly dull evening in Hollywood -- the night before the Oscars, when industryites are typically recovering from Friday night events, such as Ed LimatoEd Limato's pre-Oscar party, and preparing for post-Oscar fetes, such as the Vanity Fair party and the Governors Ball, held on Sunday. Another tradition is the Night Before the Night Before, on Friday, when there'll be a dinner at Spago for sponsors. Border Grill chef-owners Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger will be on hand to teach guests how to make tamales; Mariah Carey will perform after dinner. Attorneys for Jessica Alba are demanding Playboy pull its March issue off store shelves and pay the actress an undisclosed sum of money after she appeared on this month's cover without her consent. "Our editors assembled photographs of the top 25 vote-getters for our annual '25 Sexiest Celebrities' feature, and we put her on the cover based on the poll results," said Lauren Melone, a Playboy spokeswoman.
