Mariah Miracle

Mariah Carey made it "through the rain", and in December she made a chronically ill fan's wish come true. Caleb Boulter, 16, of North Conway, N.H. got to meet his idol. A short time later, he suffered a terrible setback. Now, Mariah talks to Access Hollywood about what happened, and how she helped Caleb "make it through." "Mariah Carey is the best, greatest, most incredible, sincere singer that the world can imagine," said Caleb. But just hours after their meeting, he nearly died after suffering a severe seizure on the plane ride home. "Probably the reason why that seizure occurred was due to all the excitement of meeting Mariah Carey and going to the concert," claims Caleb. That elation, coupled with severe turbulence, apparently set off the seizure, a symptom that, along with chronic kidney disease, Caleb often suffers from. His parents, Chris and Al, told Access that "Quickly it rose into a major seizure, Caleb was jerking wildly, out of control." Caleb miraculously survived. When Mariah heard the news, she sent flowers and a note that said: "Dear Caleb, I hope you feel better soon. God bless and get well soon." Caleb feels an incredible connection to Mariah's music, especially the song "Hero", which lifted him out of a dark time in his life. "It just helped me dig deep inside and realize that despite being a little different from the general population, I can still be a special person," said Caleb. "It gave him the extra oomph he needed to deal with the different issues in his life," added his parents. Caleb was speechless when Access delivered one more special surprise from Mariah -- a videotaped message: "We love you Caleb, you're amazing, you're an incredible person, keep going."

THE perfection

Yesterday evening, MTV Europe aired "MTV Presents Mariah Carey", this show was one of the best, if not THE best show I've ever seen.  An intimate taping, amazing UK fans and a lot of humor.  Mariah sang 3 songs: Yours, Through The Rain and Bringin' On The Heartbreak.  Through The Rain was simply amazing, Mariah played with her voice and did an improvisation version, Bringin' on The Heartbreak was absolutely great and for Yours, Mariah played with her voice too.
To see and see again and to listen and listen again and again and again and again.

Mariah Carey Wears Rembrandt Charm Bracelet
Mariah Carey, whose latest album is titled "Charmbracelet," wore one on Sunday, Feb. 16, when she sang the national anthem at the Daytona 500 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The bracelet, a gift from Daytona International Speedway, featured 11 sterling silver charms commemorating the motorsports event manufactured by Rembrandt Charms. The charms included a miniature NASCAR logo, a spark plug, a motor home, a racing helmet, Daytona 500 logos and a Photoart charm of Mariah's latest album. A replica of the bracelet and an autographed jewelry box, together valued at $1,500, will be featured on the NASCAR eBay auction in March to benefit Speediatrics, a pediatric ward at the Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach. "We were honored to be a part of this exciting event," said Rembrandt Charms President R. Christopher Lux. "The bracelet for Mariah is a custom piece and the only other one like it will be auction to benefit Speediatrics."

Mariah and Vertu, a new romance?
This morning when I woke up, my mum told me, "Great news, Mariah has a new romance, and the guy's name is Vertu" and I was like "Who is Vertu?", so I made a search to see who is Vertu and suddenly, I found his picture and this article:

If you can spend $20,000 on a watch, why not on a mobile phone? That is the idea behind Vertu, which describes itself as "the first luxury communication company". Its stylish handset-the company prefers to call it an "instrument"-features a sapphire-crystal screen and ruby bearings, and is available in stainless steel, gold and platinum finishes, with prices ranging from $4,900 to $19,450. Since its launch, the phone-sorry, instrument-has become a celebrity favourite. Gwyneth Paltrow, an American actress, was the first customer. Madonna and Mariah Carey are said to be Vertu fans; another singer, Jennifer Lopez, is reported to own three. Vertu is the brainchild of Frank Nuovo, a design guru at Nokia, the world's largest handset-maker, of which Vertu is a subsidiary. But is there really a big enough market for luxury phones?

Cam'ron Says The NBA 'Robbed' Him During All-Star Weekend, Seeks Compensation

Mariah Carey may need a boy like Cam'ron, but evidently the NBA does not. The reason why, however, is up for debate.
Cam'ron is claiming that the NBA showed him - and rap in general - no love on February 9 when it stopped him from performing with Carey at a half-time tribute to Michael Jordan during All-Star weekend in Atlanta. The rapper says that Carey asked him to perform "Boy (I Need You)" with her at the show and that the NBA flatly rejected the idea, claiming first that they didn't want rap performed at their half-time shows, and later, that a civil suit the NBA filed against his former label, Untertainment, was the reason they did not want him to participate. The suit in question pertained to the unauthorized use of the NBA's trademarked logo in the 1999 promotion of Cam'ron's S.D.E. album. As a result, Cam's then-label was forced to pull the ads. However, a spokesperson for the NBA credited an entirely different basis for the league's decision, stating that representatives from Cam'ron's current label, Island Def Jam, made them aware that Cam'ron had an outstanding gun charge against him, and that together, the NBA, Island Def Jam and Mariah Carey's label, Monarc, decided that it was not appropriate to incorporate him into the show. The spokesperson added that because the show had had already been billed as Mariah Carey's tribute to Michael Jordan, creatively the duet did not make sense. The gun charge in question occurred when Cam'ron was pulled over for a traffic violation in New York in July (see "Cam'ron Arrested On Drug, Gun Charges"). After police saw marijuana in open view, they searched the rapper's vehicle and found a .22 caliber handgun. Cam'ron pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of marijuana and criminal possession of a forged fire department placard, and posted bail. At the time, Cam'ron's label issued a statement saying that it fully supported him and that it believed when the truth came out he would be vindicated. Whatever the NBA's reason was for not including Cam'ron, he is clearly not happy about it. "There is nothing that will be bigger than a Michael Jordan tribute. I feel robbed," Cam'ron said. "Sitting up in a skybox, watching the All-Star Game, seeing the half-time show, I felt like I was supposed to be out there. I'm on a 40-city tour to promote the Diplomats album, so that means 40 cities are going to hear my opinion on this. This protest is just the beginning. I want compensation. I'm going to take this all the way to the championships." -Kristin Roth

World Music Awards Postponed Over War Fears
The annual World Music Awards in Monaco have been rescheduled over fears of war with Iraq. Melissa Corken, the event's executive producer, tells the New York Daily News that the date has been shifted from March 5th to April 24th. "It wasn't just the artists who started having problems coming over, it was also my production team," said Corken. "Nobody wanted to leave their families the first week of March with an imminent threat of war."

TRASH ALERT  (or should I say INSULT ALERT)
Here's an extract of an article we found on The Washington Times website:
No farewell salutes as Admiral ships out
By Tom Knott
Michael Jordan is receiving a massive hug and kiss from the NBA, aptly symbolized by the R-rated gown worn by Mariah Carey at the All-Star Game in Atlanta. The reaction is understandable, if not overdone, and not to question the fashion courage of Carey. She tried to sing, if anyone noticed, and the players, Jordan included, resisted the urge to stick a dollar bill in the low-cut area of her gown.
Source: The Washington Times website.
Heroes comment: I'm shocked, disgusted, speachless by this insulting article.  I know that people can like or not like Mariah, but I rarely read an insulting article like that.  Mister Tom Knott, I don't know to which school you went, but certainly not in one where the teachers learn tolerance and respect.  You know what?  My little neighbourgh who is 2 years old, learns that in kindergarten.  And about the dollar bill thing... well, I will stop here, 'cause I'm polite and respectful, even towards you.

TRASH ALERT
Here's what we found on Popdirt.com:
J.Lo & Shania Learn The Lesson Of Mariah & Whitney
David Browne of Entertainment Weekly sounds a sour note on the future of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. Browne writes, "The apathetic public response to both 'Charmbracelet' and Whitney Houston's 'Just Whitney...' confirms that these two longstanding, long-screaming divas have met their expiration date." He added, "The lesson to learn from all this chaos would appear to be obvious: You can only take your control-freaky, money-flaunting, power-tripping behavior so far before it all comes crashing down around you. It's a lesson that has clearly made an impact on the two women who have replaced Whitney and Mariah in the hearts and stereos of America, namely Shania Twain and Jennifer Lopez."
Source: Popdirt.com
Heroes comment:  Hey David, I thought that an expiration date was only for food.  But apparently for you it seems that it's also for people , so, when is your expiration date please?  And by the way don't you know it's rude to treat people like food???

All the chilhood practice has paid off
When he was in high school, Steve Park would often give his girlfriend and a friend of hers a ride home. The
East Northport, N.Y., native said he and his girlfriend were always trying to get the friend to go to the beach
or to a movie. But the friend always had a voice class or some kind of musical commitment and never went. Park and
girlfriend came to feel a little sorry for the friend, he says. On Sunday, the NASCAR Winston Cup driver will have the chance to see first-hand how all those music lessons turned out for his old girlfriend's friend. Since that friend -- Mariah Carey -- will be at the Daytona 500 to sing the national anthem. "Even in high school, she knew she wanted to be a singer and I knew I wanted to race cars," Park said yesterday. "Now, we've both done pretty well. It's pretty cool."

Rapper Cam'ron Says N.B.A. Snubbed Him:
By Nolan Strong With Jigsaw
Cam'ron has accused the NBA of stopping him from performing with Mariah Carey during the NBA All-Star game tribute to Michael Jordan on Feb. 9. Cam said the league agreed he'd rap during the set but reneged claiming they were "staying away from rap." Cam said that Carey had fought to get the rapper a spot during the tribute, but the NBA reneged, blaming a lawsuit against Cam's former label, Untertainment. Cam said that the league's commissioner, David Stern, never intended to let him perform. "They told her yes until the last two days," Cam'ron told AllHipHop.com. "Then they brought up when Untertainment [used] the [NBA logo] for S.D.E. album. They said they sued Cam'ron when I had the gun in the NBA logo. It was really Untertainment and they were like, 'we don't care, its Cam'ron.'" During the 1999 promotion of his S.D.E. album, Untertainment/Epic released an advertisement, which was a play on the NBA's trademarked logo by adding a gun to the silhouetted hand of Jerry West player. Eventually, the NBA filed a civil suit, forcing Cam and Untertainment to yank the ads. The NBA, which relies heavily on hip-hop in various marketing campaigns and commercials told Cam and crew that they were actually trying to stay away from rap. "The NBA said that they don't do any rap so they didn't let me perform," Cam continued. "I mean they act like they are such an elite group of people- no disrespect because I have friends in the NBA. Its like realistically, they got people that beat they wives up, get caught with guns, smoking weed - all types of stuff - and then they say they [don't use] rap." Jimmy Jones, co-CEO of Diplomat Records said he was angry as well. "David Stern, you get the third finger from the left or the right," Jones said. "We're starting the 'F**k David Stern Campaign.'" "The only reason they said 'Yeah' is because Mariah Carey insisted. They were trying to tell her, 'No, we don't do rap. We are staying away from rap.' To deprive me of the tribute to Michael Jordan, such a prestigious event at the All-star game, I felt like it was a miscarriage of justice," Cam concluded. The NBA was not available for comments at press time.

Mariah Carey Dedicates New Album To Father
MuchMusic spoke with Mariah Carey in Atlanta at the All Star game, where she talked about her new album 'Charmbracelet', which she dedicated to the memory of her recently deceased father. "This year was very, very difficult," said Carey. "I've never experienced anything like going through somebody battling cancer and then ultimately losing that person but I think that what I learned is, it's about celebrating every single bit of time you have with someone who is close to you, someone who you're related to."

Mariah Carey says she doesn't want a boyfriend yet

Mariah Carey says she doesn't want to have a boyfriend at the moment as she continues her comeback from a breakdown last year. She's posed for a series of photographs appearing in the new edition of Vibe magazine. In an interview she says in real life she's a prude and nothing like her sex-kitten alter ego. Pictures in the magazine show her bra-less as she unbuttons a micro-mini skirt and tight black jacket to reveal her tan lines. "It's just me playing dress up," she said. Daily Mirror reports Mariah as saying she received "a lot more" than the reported £30m pay-off from her record label EMI. The singer denied she tried to commit suicide last year, but said her childhood had been "no picnic". "I was the one calling 911 when I was a six-year-old and there was stuff going on in the house." She says she was disappointed with her debut film Glitter, which was panned by the critics. But she says she hopes her latest comedy, Wisegirls, in which she plays a drug-dealing waitress, will do better. "Celebrity stuff is fluff. None of it is real at the end of the day."

Carey carries on
Atlanta was too crowded for Tiger Woods. Lisa Harris said they didn't get any hang time with Woods because he left the morning of the All-Star game. So they kept company with some of Woods' friends. Woods stayed at the Ritz, where former President Bill Clinton and Mariah Carey were also registered. Carey poured her hourglass figure into a floor-length Washington Wizards jersey with Michael Jordan's number on it. Although we could all marvel at how her breasts, pushed up to her eyelids, didn't come flying over the low-cut top, her friend would not join in such tittering. "Mariah was nice," Lisa said. "She always is."

MTV UK or MTV Europe?  Note to MTV, it's not the same!!!!
On January the 31st. we were happy to read on MTV Europe's website that on Februrary the 14th. for Valentine's day, we were gonna be able to see "MTV Presents Mariah Carey".  Now this news has vanished from MTV Europe's site, but came back on MTV UK's website, and here's an extract of what you read there now: "Mariah Carey fans had the chance to question their idol in the exclusive programme 'MTV Presents Mariah Carey', which will air on MTV UK and Ireland later this month. 'MTV Presents Mariah Carey' will be aired across MTV Europe from February 14, 2003. MTV News Europe".
So, is it me who is stupid and blind, or is it MTV?  I can't understand that a TV channel like MTV, make mistakes with it's own channels.  Seems to me, that an amateur TV channel would be more professional.
Look the schedules by yourself for MTV Europe and for MTV UK.  If you guys you find something about "MTV Presents Mariah Carey" on MTV Europe, please let us know, as MTV Europe maybe "forgot" to write the right shows and/or good details in their schedule, like it was the case yesterday with the TRL where Mariah was co-hosting.
I would like to close this post by saying thanks to MTV for the professional running of their websites.

DiscLive to Provide Artists and Record Labels New Revenue Stream
Tuesday February 11, 10:36 am ET
Live Music Fans to Have Access to Exclusive Concert Collectable
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 11, 2003--Innovative music startup DiscLive is about to revolutionize the live concert CD market with instantly available live discs for sale immediately after the end of a concert. Unauthorized copying of concerts has been a thorn in the side of the many musicians who have seen their live music sold unscrupulously to the masses. DiscLive finally gives record labels and artists the opportunity to participate in a new revenue stream while providing music fans a product they crave. DiscLive CEO Rich Isaacson, former President and co-owner of legendary hip-hop label Loud Records, is excited about the opportunity this concept brings to the music industry. "For the past few years music industry revenues have been declining for both labels and artists. Our business provides both parties a new, risk-free opportunity to extend the investment on their brand." Fans will now have the opportunity to purchase premium, limited edition, one night only CD pressings of concerts that they attend. "For the last four decades, fans have been subjected to endless searching for sub par recordings of shows they attended," DiscLive co-founder David Blanchard states. "DiscLive has the means to provide these fans with not only a professionally mixed recording but an individually numbered collectable that they can treasure for years to come." DiscLive plans to actually go on tour with the band, allowing artists to distribute every show and add a custom feel to each product, as opposed to shows recorded simply because of the venue that they are at. "Because our team will be traveling with the artists, we will be able to integrate tour specific bonus material and random 'special edition' CD's, such as autographed copies and backstage passes," Blanchard says. "We want to provide an entirely new way for artists to provide for their faithful supporters." Fans will be able to pre-order the limited edition CD's online, where they will be given a unique barcode to claim their CD. In addition, kiosks will be located throughout the venues so fans can order the CD's while at the show. "We anticipate each edition to sell out quickly, so fans will want to get in early on the deal," co-founder Jake Walker declares. "These collectables won't ever be mass-produced, so it's a now-or-never proposition for the diehard fans." Fans can even submit personal requests via for bands they would like to see provide this service. DiscLive has assembled an impressive group of prominent music industry professionals to serve on its Board of Advisers. They include: Jerry Blair, former Executive Vice President of Columbia Records and President of Mariah Carey's MonarC Entertainment; Sami Valkonen who was most recently Senior VP of new media and business development at BMG; and Tomas Cookman, President of Cookman International, a full-service Latin music company and founder of the Latin Alternative Music Conference.

I got a beautiful fanbook the other day at one of the umm, one of the radio stations that I was at. But right now, I don't have Big Nasty here but I do have the infamous and world famous Randy Jackson who wants to give you all a message in song (and it goes: one, two, three)
Randy and Mariah (singing): "You're a shining star, No matter who you are..."
Mariah (singing): "Don't know the rest of the words.." *laughing*
Randy: What's up, what's up, what's up, what's upppp?? Come on, come on, make it real, whatever you're gonna do, y'all. Make it real, It's got to be real!
Mariah (singing): "It's got to be real"
Randy: That was a good song too, M..
Mariah: Yes, it was.
Randy: Yes!
Mariah: So say hi to the nice fans so they'll love you.
Randy: Hello fans, whatcha all doing? Come on now, I know you all love 'American Idol', come on! (Mariah laughing in the background) You know M is the first idol, you know what I'm saying? So you know come on now.
They're just trying to be like M, (-something-..... song), trying to be like M, trying to be like M!
(Mariah in the background: "Hey! Ohhh Randy, Ohhh dear")
Mariah: I am not feeding him a script! *Randy laughing* Randy, you keep doing your thing.
Randy: Yes, yes, thank you, M, Thank you fans.
Mariah: Yes, exactly, tell them all that you love them please!
Randy: You know I love all and each and everyone of y'all.
Mariah: Keep singing!
Randy: Keep on singing, Stay strong! Believe y'all, believe!
Mariah: That's right! Anyway, love ya much, and umm I will holler back soon, hopefully with Big Nasty but he sends his regards. (singing): "Big Nasty won't ya come to Brasil", Bye, bye!

Wendy Williams opens her big mouth
"Well, to those people who don't like my style, I totally understand. Everything is not for everybody. There's nothing I can say. I don't intend on changing my style unnaturally. For instance, Mariah Carey came on my show. We had a face to face and she brought champagne and Chinese food we talked for two hours. She didn't walk out or get upset of nothing like that. She was a perfect lady and a girlfriend and she defended herself.

Mariah Book
Hi, I know this is very short notice, but I am putting together a little book for Mariah.  I will *try* to get it to her at the NBA All-Stars game in Atlanta on Sunday (I don't have tickets, so I will try and meet her outside).  The theme of the fanbook is "Life Might as Well Be a Party with Mariah", and it's something to make Mariah happy, make her laugh.  Here are the details: -Make Mariah Laugh- That?s the idea of this fanbook?so if you are going to send a letter, please do not send a 9 page story that will make Mariah sad.  I am sure she loves hearing you?re stories, but save them for another fanbook.  This fanbook is purely to make Mariah smile!  Fill it with funny stories : ).  *?What was she thinking??-The first section will be filled with Mariah photos, mostly candids, that have edited by the fans to show what they thought Mariah was thinking, or a funny caption.   This is the main part of the book, so make send one in if ya got a little extra!  I have attached an example picture, not very good, but hey lol (note:  look at Bianca's arm on the picture!) *  The second section is the fan letters part *The third section is poems, songs, art, etc. Please send all entries to mariah_book@yahoo.com.  All entries MUST be sent in by Friday, February 7th.  Thank you much! Mariah...She's Back - After driving herself to the edge, Mariah Carey has returned with a new album and a new attitude.
By Kev Lewin & Ari Fischbach

Recording her new hit album under the the calming Italian sunshine of the island of Capri apparently had an
effect on Mariah Carey, now triumphant and revitalized after a torrid period of time, when her movie and
music careers practically collapsed. Now, she's back! The pop superstar has a new album, Charmbracelet, that is at the top of the charts, and this time she's doing everything her way. Many felt sure, about a year a a half ago, when Mariah was struggling with her own sanity after a breakdown left her craving some needy care, that her career was finished.Years of giving it all had taken their toll on her, and Mariah fell to a deep depression, for which she needed hospitalization. After all, it had been nothing short of a 10-year-long roller-coaster in which she released album after album, coped with 20 hour days and a tough marriage to Sony Records boss Tommy Mottola. When she escaped from the gilded cage, or "Sing-Sing," as she called the house they shared, she finally had the creative freedom she craved. But somewhere between the remixes and collaborations, she began to lose control. When her Glitter didn't sell immediately, Virgin Records--the label she joined after she left Sony--bought out her contract after less than a year. Several labels were courting her when she picked up and went to Capri to start working on Charmbracelet, which she calls "an intense turning point." Carey is signed with Island Def Jam now, where hip-hop impresario Lyor Cohen is banking on this record to be a huge success. The first single, Through the Rain, is already in heavy rotation, so it's not as if he has to salvage a wreck. So now, Mariah Carey feels great again --and according to her, it's all thanks to recording her new album miles away from the hectic life she has known for the past decade, in rural Italy. There, she recharged her batteries, produced what she calls a great album and mused about her life. Now, she insists she's wiser, healthier--and raring to go for it all over again.
INTERVIEW:
Q: You look great. Come on, what's your secret?
A: I'm taking care of myself.
Q: You obviously learned a lot from your ill health last year.
A: Oh yeah. I'm a lot healthier.
Q: So much has been said about your exhaustion, the breakdown, the hospitalization. What was really going on?
A: Well, it was less of a breakdown and more of a physical situation. If I didn't allow you to sleep, and you worked 20-hour days for two months, you'd suffer-I don't care who you are. You physically cannot do it. And then, when there are paparazzi chasing you, hiding in the bushes, it's tough. Literally, I was passed out.
Q: Why did you push yourself so hard?
A: I've been kind of self-parenting myself since I was little. My parents divorced when I was three: people do not really know about that. Kids who go through that don't take care of themselves as well as they should. So that was my thing. I was more on a work spiral, a tangent that should have been more organized. I also own my own management company. I have my own stuff-- I control my own career and I produce and write all my songs. It's tough.
Q: And you're all over the tabloids.
A: Yes, of course. The tabloid stuff, that's our society. We sell papers through shock. We love shock TV. We love reality TV shows, which are really reality-enhanced. We love that. We love trash talk shows. And we love to talk about celebrities...
Q: But you love all that, too, right?
A: It's interesting. I find myself listening, going: 'Who did what?' I go, 'Wait a minute, what publication was this in?' I've learned that even the most respected newspapers in the world sometimes don't fact-check. Sometimes they'll misquote you, sometimes they'll just write things.
Q: So, how do you get away from that?
A: You just do. I did my new album on a little island in the middle of the Mediterranean, right off of Italy, and I slept in the apartment above the studio. It was like this one little building on top of a hill and there is like no pollution, because you can't drive around there. It was really nice, because it was just a fun environment. You can work hard, but in a stress-free way. I was working around the clock, but sleeping
when I felt like it. It's so gorgeous there. The ocean is just so amazing, and just these different little caves that have been there since the Roman Empire. It's great.
Q: Where was this paradise?
A: I can't tell you because then it won't be my place.
Q: Why are you calling the new CD Charmbracelet?
A: Charm bracelets are sort of sentimental objects that represent a person. My grandmother had one. It's something that has a lot of sentimental value to me. So it's like giving a gift to my fans in a way. It's like each song has it's own charm. It represents part of my life.
Q: We've seen two distinctly different sides of your music lately --the uptempo hip-hop songs and the ballads. Which do you prefer?
A: I like both. I have a lot of different influences. I grew up mostly on R&B music. My mother is an opera singer. I've done a lot of different collaborations, like with Pavarotti. He sang Hero in Italian, and I sang it in English for his charity event that he has every year. I don't want to limit myself to one thing; I've always liked working with all different types of artists.
Q: The first CD came out in 1990 and instantly made you a star. How has 12 years of life as a celebrity affected you?
A: I feel like I grew up in the public eye. I'm sort of eternally 12 in my mind. I don't know, I didn't really feel famous. It's like I just started out, and it was about the music and the singing and all that stuff. The fame thing is just, I don't know. I feel like the same person. And it's a weird thing. I feel it when it's invasive, when people are hiding in bushes and taking your pictures and you are in tabloids. But other than that, I don't know. I feel close to the people that I meet who have grown up listening to those records. That's how I chronicle my life. Someone would say, `Well, when did we do this?' and I'll be like, `OK, what album did I have out?' It's either what grade was I in, or what album did I have out?
Q: When you're in the public eye, there's a lot of pressure to look good. How do you stay in shape?
A: I go up and down. But when I get a chance to exercise, it's not like it takes me that long. I don't have one of those regims that some of those other people have. I do have a nutritionist that I'm talking to. For the most part, I go on the stationary bike and watch movies. It passes the time (laughs). I either have to be on the phone or watch movies. If I watch a two-hour movie, I get two hours of cardio, which is great.
Q: If we're to believe the tabloids, your love life is quite complicated. What does it take for a guy to get a date with Mariah Carey?
A: People sometimes think they have to say things in a certain way to be cool or to look unimpressed. That's nice, but I'm unimpressed. Who wants to be approached with some drab remark? I'm just like anybody else. It's not like that big of a deal. I don't have a big book of requirements.
Q: One final thing, what are you most excited about right now-- apart from your new record?
A: I have this artist I'm working with, and I'm really excited about her. She is 13 and she is really beautiful and has a really good voice. I'm looking forward to putting a CD out. She's like my little sister, my secret little sister.

Mariah Sets Another Record
In the latest edition of The Guinness Book of World Records, set for a March 2003 release date, pop-diva MARIAH CAREY scores still another title. According to Guinness officials, the siren's ethereal pipes hold the record for having hit the highest note in the history of recorded music. In a live rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" last year, Mariah hit a G7#-note, outdoing even the piano. Technically, the exertion of G7#-notes is "dolphin speak," since, in theory, these are the only mammals physiologically equipped with the proper lung-structure to produce G7#-notes. So powerful are G7#-notes that these are capable of countering water and electric currents, and have even been known to outdistance space and range. In the world, Carey is the only other living creature to have ever generated a G7#-note. Clinically, Mariah's voice is termed a medical wonder. But the "altisisima" Carey is no stranger to the Guinness Book, as the songbird is titleholder to dozen other titles. Correlating to Carey's latest record, in a back edition of the Guinness Book, Carey is credited with possessing a 7-octave range, meaning she is able to go from an A2 (eight full-scaled keys below the lowest possible note on a piano) to a G7#-note without deviating from perfect pitch and all in the time-span of one breath. Behind vocal wonder Carey, who still goes un-championed, are Yma Sumac, ringing in at 5 octaves, and the late Minnie Riperton, with 4.5 octaves.

Mariah Honors Michael Jordan!
On Feb. 9th, Mariah Carey will be performing at the halftime show for the NBA All Star Game in Atlanta. This is a special performance as it pays tribute to basketball's greatest star, Michael Jordan, who will be retiring from basketball at the end of this season (for the third and final time!). Her performance, which will feature 3 songs, "Through The Rain", "Boy", and "Hero", will be seen in 212 countries. For more information go to: http://www.nba.com/allstar2003/mariah_030127.html.
