October 2006 - Heroes of Mariah

Tonight, Halloween!!!!!!!
Me scared !!!!!!
There will not be a special Heroes of Mariah Halloween page this year, I saw enough freaks and horrors among the medias and even some fans this year to make it Halloween everyday .  From the medias, I can eventually admit it, they are so dumb and conditioned to hate, but from fans.... fake asses who go to see Mariah and soon after critisize her or even insult her, fans who pirated Mariah's tracks, fans who are happy others didn't get to see Mariah... whatever, the list is so long, too long.... No, I'm not bitter, it's freakier than Halloween!!!!!

C'mon guys, a few dollars each and Diana will be able to walk on her own...
A wish to walk again
Fellow fan Diana is 22 with Cerebral Palsy. She already sold a part of her collection to pay for this. It's an easy stand evolv glider, it's kind of like an elliptical machine for people like her who can't walk without a walker.
It's $4,295, and her insurance doesn't cover it, until now she managed to save a total of $310, living with not even having the freedom to move around when you need. This piece of equipment and the time that she spend in therapy are her light at the end of the tunnel.
If everyone who's concerned were willing to paypal her only $1 she would be able to buy it.
If you feel you can miss $1 to help her out,  paypal her at divineimperfection@comcast.net.
You can also take a look here at what she has to say on her special site, after reading if you still feel you can't miss $1.....
I know we can make this happen guys, help Diana to walk.
Thanks to Kristi for the info and coming up for her friend.

Shino from Love love Jack aka Stone Winner
We all know Shino's talents with her Jack cartoons and I already gave you the link to see the best fan book ever she made for Mariah.  Now you can see the book on YouTube, and see Jack moving, hear "Fly Away" coming out of the book, etc...
Mariah was really impressed by this fan book too when she received it backstage in Saitama.
Mariah's room backstage was gorgeous, white curtain, white sofa, white carpet and a sweet white rose scent.
Shino gave the Japanese Adventure book and as soon as Mariah saw the cover she was amazed and surprised: "Oh My Godness".
When she then opened the book she enjoyed every page, at the "Jack's Shake It Off" page, Mariah almost broke Jack's tail by moving it in the wrong direction , and then sang "Shake It Off".
Mariah was very impressed by the "Butterfly page" and was surprised when she heard "Fly Away" coming out of the book.
She also loved the cartoon of Jack and Mimi of "We Belong Together" and was laughing at the very long wedding dress.
Mariah gave Shino the title "Stone Winner"

So according to the Hong Kong promotor, these were the "outrageous"demands, c'mon even if it's true, that's ridiculous that in 2006, Hong Kong couldn't give it to Mariah....
"She was making demands like Streisand," a music industry source told the Daily News. "She wanted special spring water, furniture, lighting and armed escorts.
"They told her: 'This is Hong Kong, not the U.S.,' and she said: 'I am not going on.' So they said: 'Fine.'"
But Carey's manager said the pop star pulled out because the promoter had failed to meet his financial commitments.

Benny about the Hong Kong case
Benny Medina, said 8,000 tickets had been sold, and blamed the cancellation on the promoter's failure to pay Carey money that was due to her.
''If there were only 10 people in this venue, and this particular promoter ... had fulfilled his contractual obligations, we would be there. Mariah Carey loves her fans in Southeast Asia,'' Medina said. ''He has defaulted several times, right up into the last 48 hours. Literally we tried to hang in there with this guy.'
However, she is due back in the United States to film a movie and to work on her album.
"There's no question that Mariah is excited to go back to Hong Kong in the very near future," said Medina.

Mariah Carey's Manager Blames Promoter For Hong Kong Concert Cancellation
Mariah Carey's manager is disputing claims by an Asian promoter that her concert was called off because of poor ticket sales and unreasonable demands.

Manager Benny Medina says eight-thousand tickets were sold to her Hong Kong concert, not four-thousand, as promoter Concerts Asia claimed. Medina blames the cancellation on the tour promoter's failure to pay Carey.

Medina says the promoter has "defaulted several times, right up into the last 48 hours."

Concerts Asia had said the Hong Kong date was canceled because of poor ticket sales and because Carey had made "wholly unreasonable" demands.

Medina says Carey's team is talking to other promoters to see if the Hong Kong show can be completed with another promoter.

The Hong Kong case
I'll not post any more articles or reports regarding the cancellation of the Hong Kong concert, except if a new fact comes up, it's all over the medias, in all languages, and of course most of them are blaming Mariah ignoring Benny Medina's statement which came a lil' later, too late for the medias which stay with the promotor's version. Let's be clear, the promotor didn't had the money he needed to pay since a long time as an advance payment, my friend Rich e-mailed me today, he's in Hong Kong right now (not for the concert but for his business), he searched some infos for me (thanks Rich) and apparently it was already hard to have good seats since a few days. A guy working at the Tamar arena told him more than 10.000 tickets were sold (including the ones given to businessmen) and indeed technicians were already setting up the stage (Note: I have no way to find out if this is accurate).  Remember this sentence from the Yahoo! article: "poor organisation and allegations of corruption", it's not up to me to find out what happend, but don't blame Mariah.
I'm sad for the Hong Kong fans, for the fans from all over Asia, Australia and even Europe who already were on their way to Hong Kong.  I read so many strange stuffs on fan forums and message boards, some fans blame Mariah, some don't want to be fan anymore, some are mad, some are sad, some are sad for the ones who will miss Mariah's concert and worse of all some were happy, yes you read it right... some were happy, no need to say these are fans who already got a concert in the US and think 2 days will make a difference in the release of the next album, how would they feel if next time it happens in their city... funny huh... some Mariah fans are so strange sometimes....

Blame Flies After Mariah Hong Kong Cancellation
Management and promoters of Mariah Carey's Oct. 28 gig in Hong Kong are blaming each other after the pop singer's show was canceled today (Oct. 26).

The event's promoters, Hong Kong-based One Events, say the tour-concluding show was pulled due to poor ticket sales and blamed Carey's management, Los Angeles-based Handprint Entertainment, for making "unreasonable last-minute demands."

But Handprint co-owner Benny Medina claims to have pulled the plug after One Events allegedly defaulted on an advance. Medina says Handprint's contract with One Events stipulated that a percentage of production and star fees be paid in advance to guarantee the booking.

"Judging by the business model of this company and the way it does business -- bearing in mind this money was still outstanding two days before the show -- we felt the possibility of getting those fees was remote," Medina tells Billboard.com. "So we felt we had no alternative but to cancel the show."

"As promoters of the Mariah Carey Hong Kong concert we have decided to cancel the event effective immediately due to both the poor response of public ticket sales (approximately 4,000 normal tickets only despite a substantial advertising campaign, although a good response from corporate ticketing), and also due to specific last-minute demands which we find wholly unreasonable and not with the best interests of Hong Kong, us and also the fans," One Events said in a statement.

Medina wouldn't comment on how many tickets had been sold. Local newspapers were still running ads for seats today. Carey was to have played at the Tamar Site, a former naval base in the heart of downtown Hong Kong that occasionally hosts temporary stages for large-scale outdoor shows. With a capacity of 20,000, the venue has previously hosted such acts as the Rolling Stones.

Production crews had already begun building the stage when the cancellation was announced here by Carey's local label, Universal Music South East Asia. Refund details have yet to be announced, but Medina says One Events still owes him money.

"The moneys owed were a combination of artists' fees and production fees," he says. "This was after we let the promoter know ... that we would give him more and more time to pay. But he missed the deadline each time."

In a statement released today by Universal Music South East Asia regional headquarters in Hong Kong, UMG International apologized to Carey's fans, blaming the cancellation on "unfulfilled contractual obligations by concert organizers."

"She deeply regrets the disappointment caused to them due to unforeseen circumstances beyond her control," the statement says. "For Mariah, this is particularly unfortunate given her recent sold-out, critically acclaimed tours of the United States and Japan.

Mariah's manager reacts to the Hong Kong's promotor accusations and sets the facts straight!!!
Mariah Carey's Hong Kong concert axed amid row
Hong Kong fans of American pop diva Mariah Carey have been left disappointed after a row between her management and promoters ended with a planned weekend concert being cancelled.

Both Carey's management company and the show's local promoter claim to have pulled the plug, with each blaming the other for mishandling the event.

"Due to unfulfilled contractual obligations by concert organisers, Mariah Carey has been obliged to cancel her forthcoming concert in Hong Kong on Sunday," the singer's record label Universal said in a statement.

Her management, Handprint Entertainment, were not so diplomatic, however.

"Due to a financial default by the promoter, it is with great sadness that Mariah will not be able to perform for her fans in Hong Kong," said Handprint's Benny Medina.

Medina said promoters One Events still had outstanding production and artists' fees to pay.

"We gave them time to pay but he kept missing the new deadlines," he told AFP from his office in Los Angeles.

One Events, however, blamed poor ticket sales -- claiming that just 4,000 of at least 10,000 had been sold -- and said Handprint were also responsible.

"As promoters of the Mariah Carey Hong Kong concert we have decided to cancel the event effective immediately due to both the poor response of public ticket sales and also due to specific last-minute demands which we find wholly unreasonable and not with the best interests of Hong Kong, us and also the fans," the company said in a statement, adding that refund arrangements would be announced later.

Carey had been booked to play on a harbourside site that hosts occasional outdoor events. Production crews had already begun building the stage when the announcement came.

Carey's cancellation follows the axeing of a show by British pop singer Robbie Williams on November 10 due to poor health.

Hong Kong's reputation as a concert venue was severely undermined in 2003, when it was hoped a government-run string of concerts featuring big stars would put the city on the world tourism map after Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) laid waste to the economy.

However, poor ticket sales, poor organisation and allegations of corruption mired it in controversy with the loss of about 100 million Hong Kong dollars (12.8 million US dollars) of taxpayers' money.

Mariah Carey Hong Kong cancellation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MARIAH CAREY REGRETTABLY CANCELS HONG KONG CONCERT SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 28
HONG KONG, October 26, 2006: Due to unfulfilled contractual obligations by concert organisers, Mariah Carey has been obliged to cancel her forthcoming concert in Hong Kong , scheduled to take place at The Tamar site on Saturday, October 28.
With legions of fans in Hong Kong and South East Asia , Mariah has always appreciated the love and dedication they have shown over the years. She deeply regrets the disappointment caused to them due to unforseen circumstances beyond her control. For Mariah, this is particularly unfortunate given her recent sold-out, critically acclaimed tours of the United States and Japan .
Mariah's most recent album, The Emancipation of Mimi, achieved double-platinum status in Hong Kong and platinum sales in Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand. The album also earned the multi-Grammy winning singer/songwriter/producer the distinction of being the best-selling Universal Music artist in China in 2006.
Mariah will soon begin work on a new album, due for release in 2007.

Mariah about Johnta Austin
Joining the winner's circle in an important new cadre of richly-talented male singer-songwriters, So So Def/Virgin Records' debut artist, Grammy winner Johnta Austin is poised to join the ranks of such rightly-praised R&B torchbearers as Anthony Hamilton, Ne-Yo and John Legend with his new single, "Turn It Up," a track from his much-anticipated artist debut, OCEAN DRIVE, scheduled for release December 26th, 2006.
At just 26 years old, Austin is already known as one of pop music's key overachievers for his accomplishments of the past two years, co-writing a series of massive hits for Mariah Carey ("Don't Forget About Us," "Shake It Off," and the record-setting worldwide No.1 "We Belong Together"), Jessica Simpson ("A Public Affair"), Mary J. Blige ("Be Without You"), Enrique Iglesias, and numerous others, winning his first Grammy Award in the Best R&B Song category for "We Belong Together."
Defining the essential musical spirit of the times, and cutting a wide swath through every imaginable category of music fan with his songs, he has merited the highest superlatives from the A-list artists who've collaborated with him: "Johnta is the best thing to happen to the music industry," Blige declared recently; Chris Brown enthused: "His pen is like a basketball to Michael Jordan. He's creative and not afraid to go outside the box in his writing." Adds Ciara: "The way that he tells stories through music is so vivid that you can paint the picture." Frequent co-writer Carey sums up: "As a fellow songwriter, I really had an incredible experience working with Johnta. I'm really excited for him and happy that such a true talent is getting a chance to shine as a solo artist."

As expected, probably no duet for Janet and Mariah
Rumors were flying around JD was asking for a duet for his girlfriend Janet and Mariah.  Mariah was the last to know it when the press told her about it a few months ago.  Anyway, the duet seems very compromised now since Virgin (Janet's label) doesn't want to spend more money in what they call a desaster.  Janet's album sold only 400.000 copies since its release four weeks ago. This morning, it stands at No. 150 on Amazon.com.
Sources told FoxNews there’s been some idea of Mariah Carey coming in and re-doing one of the album’s songs with Janet as a stunt, but that doesn’t seem likely now. Even if Dupri reconsiders his position, Virgin isn’t going to put more money into “20 Y.O.” The damage is done.

Jermaine Dupri  is out at Virgin Records
Dupri was head of urban music at Virgin. But late yesterday, according to my sources, Dupri quit—i.e. was forced out—after disappointing sales of Jackson's comeback album called "20 YO."
For Jackson, this is especially painful since '20 YO' was the last album on her Virgin contract. She now faces the task of negotiating a new deal with little leverage.
Dupri was partially responsible along with Randy Jackson ("American Idol" fame, not the brother) for making Mariah Carey's "Emancipation of Mimi" album a monster hit. With Janet, he opted to make her into something she couldn't be at age 40—a hip hop diva—rather than present her as an adult star. Kids did not flock to her, and adults didn't want to hear it.

You all know by know I'm totally against illegal sharing of commercial files, YouTube and MySpace are a great way to promote artists but you need to play the rules .... today YouTube purged 30,000 copyrighted files
"How YouTube and MySpace will stop users from sharing copyrighted content.
Record companies give their complete catalog of songs to acoustic-fingerprinting technology firms like Silicon Valley’s Audible Magic. Audible Magic’s software analyzes each song and assigns it a numeric identifier based on the unique properties of the sound file. Then the firm’s antipiracy filter monitors the songs uploaded to the media-sharing Web sites and attempts to find matches—digital files that share the same acoustic characteristics as the originals. If they find a match, the software filter allows the copyright holder to decide whether they want to yank the video or grant permission."

"Feel My Pain" not on The Game's "Doctor's Advocate"
Well, well, well, guess what...  my fears were founded, "Feel My Pain" feat. Mariah is not on the tracklist of The Game's "Doctor's Advocate", well, at least not according to Geffen's site.
Not that I'm a Game fan, but a new track featuring Mariah is always great.
It's not funny anymore, first no Mariah on Busta's latest album, now no Mariah on The Game's new album
Ok, let's cross the fingers now for the track featuring Mariah on Freeway's upcoming album.
That sucks, I was looking forward to hear that track in less than a month... dammit . You know what?  I'm gonna make my own track featuring Mariah, at least that way I'm sure I'll be able to hear it .

"I met Mariah Carey in Milan, Italy"
Written by Chad Miyashiro
It was my first trip to Milan. I think it was in 1999 or 2000. I went to a shopping center next to the Duomo cathedral. There was a huge crowd and lots of press people. They were all crowded around a record store Ricordi Media. I didn't know what was going on, so I pushed my way up to the barrier and saw Mariah posters covering all the windows of the store. One said "Welcom Mariah." Just then, the guards opened up the barrier in front of me and let a bunch of us into the store. I assumed that they would be bringing Mariah out for autographs, so I bought her new CD Rainbow and stood in line. They brought her out to a table that had some microphones. She started signing autographs. In between autographs she did a radio interview. When it was my turn to get an autograph, I walked up and smiled. I told her that I came all the way from Hawaii, where I grew up, and said that I loved the concert she did there. She asked what I was doing all the way over here. I said that I work for an airline and was on my first layover in Milan. We chatted for about 30 seconds, but I felt like I was going to get in trouble, since more people were waiting. I asked her if I could get a quick picture with her. She said that she'd love to, but these two guys (referring to the two huge bodyguards, one on each side of the table) won't like it. I thanked her, and she said it was great to meet me.

Most people either left the store or stood way in the back to look at her after they got autographs. I decided to stand in line again to see if she would sign a CD for my sister. There were about 10 of us left in line when they took her away behind the curtain. A lady came out speaking Italian. I asked if she could speak English. She told me that those of us left in line, since we didn't get autographs, would be put on the list for the private party that night. She asked me for an ID, put my name on the list, and gave me a card with a picure of Mariah on it that said I was invited to her private party. I caught a cab that night to Cafe L'Atlantique (I hear it's owned by Dolce & Gabana) and, sure enough, I was on the list. The club was full of energy. There were a lot of beautiful people, dressed in all kinds of fashions. They played Mariah videos all night on the multi-screen wall. At one point, Mariah was freestyling with another singer. It was a very memorable night. I got to party with Mariah in Milan!

The show started at 7:20pm and ended around 8:50pm.
The stage in Tokyo and Nagoya didn't have a B stage, and there was no "MIMI" lighting signboard used for "Shake It Off"
The Rainbow Hall was very hot! Mariah used a "Sensu" (Japanese fan) for "Stay The Night".
Her voice has improved from Tokyo.
Mariah introduced her make-up staff's Akiko to everyone.
Mariah threw out her tissue paper to a front row fan.
Mariah mentionned Shino again and her "Love Love Jack" sign many times.
Mariah returned to Tokyo after the concert.

If you are among the ones who illegally download songs, be careful, first of it's wrong to steal work of an artist, and just for your information it's dangerous more than ever...
IFPI has said some 20 billion songs were illegally downloaded worldwide last year.
Music industry goes into attack mode
The music industry is back on the offensive, going after downloaders and uploaders as it escalates its drive to stamp out online piracy.

Overnight, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), which represents the world's music companies, launched a fresh wave of 8000 lawsuits against alleged file-sharers in 17 countries around the world.

The trade group said more than 1 billion music tracks were illegally downloaded last year in Brazil, the largest market in Latin America. Record company revenue has nearly halved in Brazil since 2000, IFPI said. IFPI has said some 20 billion songs were illegally downloaded worldwide last year.

The industry has now filed about 18,000 lawsuits in the United States, the largest market for music sales, and 13,000 in the rest of the world.
The IFPI's legal proceedings involve both criminal and civil suits and are aimed at "uploaders" - people who put copyrighted songs onto Internet file-sharing networks to offer to music fans without permission.

The IFPI said many of those targeted for legal action were parents whose children had been illegally file-sharing. Others facing law suits included a laboratory assistant in Finland and a German parson.

The group added that more than 2300 people had already settled their case for illegally file-sharing copyrighted material with an average payout of 2420 euros ($US3034).

Will we have access soon to some backstage and interview material?
Casting it's net - Universal Music service to cash in on web
In a bid to block renegade Web sites from giving away its songs and videos, Universal Music Group is set to launch an Internet service to make sure it can cash in on its own material.

The new service, which launches in the U.K. today, will become available to U.S. consumers in December and will eventually give users legal access to the thousands of artists under Universal's umbrella.

The move is a frontal assault on outfits such as YouTube, the video site recently purchased by Google for $1.65 billion.

The Universal service "creates a direct-to-consumer broadcast network which is completely under Universal Music's control," said Rob Wells, Senior Vice President, Digital, for Universal Music Group International.

Robert Kelly, the CEO of WWEBNET, the New York-based company which built the service, said his company has struck deals with 70 content owners and was in talks with all the major record labels and movie studios.

"Entertainment industry executives have realized that they need to have their own networks, or else the software companies will just buy them and there won't be an entertainment business anymore," said Kelly.

WWEBNET, a five-year-old Big Apple startup, has received $6 million in seed funding from Palladin Opportunity Fund and other "angel investors," Kelly said.

Kelly said that his firm had retained EKN Securities and filed a letter of intent - a first step toward an initial public offering of the company.

Universal's new service, which will be controlled by Universal and operated on a subscription model, provides users access to song and music video streams and downloads, backstage interviews, concert footage, and vault materials from Universal's vast content library.

Universal, which is owned by French media giant Vivendi, is home to dozens of record labels, including Interscope/Geffen/A&M, Island Def Jam, and Motown Records. Artists such as Jay-Z, U2, Bon Jovi, and Mariah Carey all call Universal home.

The 62-year-old has enjoyed more than 40 successful years in the music industry and is keen to pass her wisdom onto the current generation of female artists. Yayyyyyyyy for Shino from Love Love Jack
- At her Tokyo concert today, Mariah dedicated "Always Be My Baby" to Jack and Shino, how great is that!!!!!
- Mariah was wearing the Magic Alhambra long necklace she bought at Van Cleef & Arpels.
- An incident happend on the stage at the beginning of "Shake It Off".  The door of the stage wasn't open, due to this Mariah didn't come out for a while.
- Mariah didn't sing "Fly Like A Bird" and "Vision of Love", however she sang "Stay The Night" entirely.
- Mariah sang "All I Want For Christmas" to end the show, the outfit for that performance was red (same design as the yellow and blue one), she left the stage on the shoulders of Rob and Darrell, which was strange and funny.
- It seems Mariah hasn't recovered of a cold.

Jermaine wants a track with Mariah to boost Janet's new album sales
Dupri: Label germane to Janet's CD flop
Janet Jackson's boyfriend, Jermaine Dupri, is said to be blaming fellow execs at Virgin Records for the miserable sales of her new CD.

We hear Dupri has threatened to quit as president of the Virgin Urban division because he feels label chairman Jason Flom and his team didn't market Jackson's album "20 Y.O." correctly.

The CD's sales plummeted 74% in its second week, dropping from No. 2 to No. 9 on the Nielsen SoundScan chart.

"Jermaine blames Virgin for not getting it enough radio play — not working it," says an insider.

In a desperate move to breathe life into "20 Y.O.," a source says Dupri is courting Mariah Carey to have a duet with Jackson on a track that would be added to a new version of the disk — even though some estimate Virgin still hasn't moved about 200,000 of the first batch.

Dupri has made no secret of his displeasure with the way Virgin handled Jackson's last album, "Damita Jo," telling The New York Times' Lola Ogunnaike, "They didn't push the project."

Flom has said that was before he came to the label. But another source says, "Jermaine and Jason haven't gotten along from the start."

Reps for Dupri, Virgin and Carey didn't return calls. But one of Flom's defenders argues, "Jason wants the CD to be a hit as much as anyone, but she didn't have the goods."

Carefree Carey back on top
In 2001 it seemed like Mariah Carey was finished. Glitter, her semiautobiographical film debut, and its soundtrack were both humiliating flops. But more, her very public breakdown made her the punching bag of late night comics and trashy tabloids the world over.

Five years later, and Carey is back with the best-selling album of 2005, having staged one of the most remarkable comebacks in recent pop history. The Emancipation of Mimi has sold 6 million copies and spawned four hit singles. Just when it seemed like J. Lo and Beyonce were stealing her fire, she's returned with a vengeance.

Fans in Japan will get a chance to see the re-energized star this week when she returns as part of her most elaborate tour yet.
Carey still possesses one of the most distinctive voices in the annals of popular music. Her dog whistle trills and over-the-top vocal gymnastics have launched hordes of imitators and perhaps it's simply the fear of losing this characteristic voice that inspired fans to go out and buy Emancipation. The ballads on the album find her in top form again. The gospel-tinged "Fly Like A Bird" is especially moving.

And whether Emancipation represents a new beginning or a final blaze of glory, Carey, the top diva of the '90s, seems to have finally come to terms with herself, as she claims on a recent posting on her Web site.

"I am letting my guard down and am celebrating the fact that I've grown into a person and artist who no longer feels imprisoned by insecurities. I can honestly say, 'This is me, the real me, take it or leave it.'"

Mariah Carey will perform Oct. 16, 7 p.m. at Nipponbudokan in Kudanshita, Tokyo, (03) 3475-9999; Oct. 18, 7 p.m. at Rainbow Hall in Nagoya, (052) 241-8118; Oct. 20-21 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, (03) 3475-9999; Oct. 24-25, 7 p.m. at Osaka-jo Hall in Osaka, (06) 6362-7301.

Phoenix concert fan review
Check this great review that my brotha Larry sent me:
"The Phx concert was so coo...
Ok the set list was the same, No Make it happen.
This was our concert man!!! We had perfect seats right next to the B stage! Busta Rhymes opened and he had the crowd going!!! Everyone was dancing and makin it "Clap" hahaha! but man the arena was huge and I know it didnt sell out but IT WAS PACKED!!! Busta kept makin it a point that this was the last U.S. Show in PHX!!! Mariah came out about 45 min after Busta. The crowd was crazy for her. She said she was very happy that the crowd was festive!!! It was her final show for the U.S. tour! When she got to the B stage I had a sign that said "Mariah is a Tycoon" She read it right before "Don't Forget About Us". And she said "Mariah's a Tycoon, What you know about that?" and started laughing!!! and waved to me!!! through out the song she kept comming and singing directly to me!!! and smirking!!! Then the song was over and my friend Daniel had a poster and it said "Dedicate One Sweet Day to my brother Billy rest in Peace" and once the B stage was over she finished her normal songs. She got to "One Sweet Day" and said. "Now I have some fans by the b stage and they wanted me to dedicate this next song to a brother who had passed away. Can I get a spot light on them please!" Then the lights shined on us as we screamed and waved the posters... She was like "Show me the sign baby" My friend couldnt stop screaming and I couldnt hold the sign up properly cuz it was crazy!!! She said "Well I cant see it cause your shaking it... " We were on all the big screens!!! She continued... "Well this song is for you it's called ONE SWEET DAY" Mariah is forever a genuine and the sweetest person. She did the lip gloss routine and gave it to a fan. She was very personal and ended the show AMAZING!!! If phx didnt know now they do!!!! Mariah is the Best!!! Im glad she ended the tour in our home state and totally acknowledged some of the true die hard fans!!! We meet Rachel after the show, while waiting in the back for Mariah. She signed and took pictures with us. (another angel) Mariah did not however come out but the night was the best!!! Words can't even express the emotions Mariah brought last night! A great tour! thanks Mariah! Arizona loves you!!!"

Mariah re-invents herself at US Airways Center
Before Mariah Carey took the stage Tuesday night at US Airways Center in Phoenix, a video of a roller coaster played on the multiple screens surrounding the stage.
The irony was not lost on the near-capacity crowd as Carey's voice boomed, "If you don't get on the ride, you won't experience the adventure."

Carey's career has included a series of ups: early chart success, a 1993 marriage to Sony Records mogul Tommy Mottola and a 2000 World Music Award as the bestselling female artist of all time.

It's also had plenty of downs: a divorce from Mottola in 1997, a mental breakdown/striptease on MTV's "TRL" and the atrocious autobiographical film, "Glitter," in 2001. Then, to top it off, getting dumped from her record label in 2002.

Recently, though she's been on the way back up, riding her massive comeback album, 2005's "The Emancipation of Mimi," which returned Carey to pop prominence with a few hit singles and three Grammy awards.

Carey's roller coaster clearly was still on the upswing Tuesday night. (See more photos)

"She has such an incredible voice," said Ron Stein, 55, of Gilbert. "It's all about her voice and her high-energy show."

The lights dimmed and Carey appeared on stage in a black bikini and cape, backed by an 11-piece band (made up of a rhythm section, a DJ and plenty of singers and dancers), and sang "It's Like That" before busting into a series of hits such as "Heartbreaker, "Dream Lover," 1998's "My All," 2005's "Shake it Off" and a great version of the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There," a duet with long-time supporter, singer Trey Lorenz.

There were plenty of costume changes during Carey's set, with a DJ laying down a slick beat as Carey changed from the black bikini to long black tight shorts and a glittery bra to a flowing blue/green gown.

Carey saved her most recent smash, "We Belong Together," for the encore, but by then the crowd had been treated to a show full of of hits.

For Elvis Rivera, 28, who drove from Denver to see the show, the concert held plenty of memories.

"I saw Mariah with my mom during Mariah's first televised special in 1993 in New York. It was Thanksgiving and my mom died a month later, but on the video she is the only one dancing. It brings back a lot of memories for me."

Rapper Busta Rhymes, newly shorn of his trademark dreads, whipped up the late-arriving crowd with his lickety-split hip-hop raps and engaging stage presence and drew an appreciative applause from the audience as he gave way to the headliner.

Mariah and J.lo on same album: the upcoming Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's album
Here's what Swizz Beatz has to say about this album:
"We're wrapping it up as we speak, trying to take it to that next level. It's our third time going in and every time it keeps goin' to the next level. I wanted them to have the real Bone feel. We brought in some producers that specialize in that fast timing, then I come to the table and bring a whole other level," Swizz said.
Producers Polow Da Don (Fergie's "London Bridge") and Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am joined Bone Thugs-N-Harmony current members Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone and Wish Bone in the studio. Bizzy Bone is not a member of the group at this time.
"They rocked with Three 6 Mafia," Swizz told SOHH, "This is the real album. No disrespect to the other albums but this album has direction. It has the hits, it has Mariah Carey, The Game, J.Lo. This is the real Bone album."
While Swizz and Bone are currently culling album tracks from 40 recorded songs there are still a few adjustments to be made.
"I like everything on the Bone project. "Bumps in the Trunk" we took the chorus from one of the old verses and brought it to 2007, the Will.I.Am song is crazy. I still wanna see that one record that'll take it from one million to five million. We're waiting on tracks from Dre and Kanye and we gonna wrap it up,"

We will probably have a DVD titled "Divarie", but not the one we thought..... Anaheim wasn't the right shot.
Mariah Carey plans to release DVD of Tour highlights
Singer Mariah Carey, who is about to take her Adventures Of Mimi tour overseas, told TV's Extra Monday night (October 9th) that she plans to release a new concert DVD. Titled Divarie, the proposed disk will document highlights from her tour, including all her wacky diva exploits on the road.

What may not be included are scenes from her October 8th stop in Anaheim, California. Sources reported that Mariah was booed by the audience, which waited more than two hours for the diva to hit the stage. Her bassist and friend Randy Jackson of American Idol fame, tried to calm and entertain the audience, but also got his share of boos. Carey reportedly arrived at about 10 p.m., and the rest of the show went on without a hitch.

At her show on Friday, October 7th, at Staples Center in Los Angeles, local Power 106 DJ Big Boy proposed to his girlfriend on stage, and then Carey herself named a baby when a pregnant fan woman told her idol that she wanted to name her child for the singer, but discovered the baby would be a boy. According to the Los Angeles Daily News, "The wonder that is Mariah thought for a second, giving three suggestions: Roy (for her late dad), Trey (for backup singer Trey Lorenz) and Carey. The woman looked pleased. Carey it would be."
Source: CJAD - macfvr
Heroes comment: Mariah wasn't booed for her performance, but for being late, our girl is always late, but here it was because they needed to set up the cameras, etc... if the Anaheim show is not used for the DVD it will maybe be 'cause of her voice which wasn't in very good shape, remember I told you last week that Mariah was a lil' sick.

Anaheim review: taping in the afternoon, concert the evening
Chingy opened the show, "One Sweet Day" was sang in full with Boyz II Men
Newton sent me his report and I think you will be interested to read it in full:
" Ok, here's the low down on Mariah in Anaheim today.
Special taping:
-Everyone was told to be there at 12pm sharp but we didn't get inside until after 2.
-One of the security said about 7000 people were expected but it was only about 2000 if that, they only filled the first part of the floor in front of the B Stage and 2 of the sections on the side, really strict about people sitting in certain places for camera angles.
-Some random guy took off his shirt....
-The director was Sanaa Hamri, Mariah's friend who directed the Crybaby video.
-The show in Anaheim was being filmed that night and Mariah invited the fans to just see her rehearse for lighting cues (since Mariah is such a stickler for lighting as she told us backstage, no overhead lighting!!) and camera angles and she was only supposed to do the opening number to the CD track.
-She did It's Like That and then they had her do Heartbreaker and Mariah said ok but she hadn't heard the album track since 2001 and wouldn't be singing it that way that night.
-She talked a bunch and was really nice and smiling and decided to go offstage and hug a bunch of people but the director urged her to go get some rest for the show.
-Mariah said a guy was there to film interviews for the DVD and urged people to do interviews which were done outside and some inside.

The show
-Chingy opened the show.
-Toni Braxton was sitting a few feet away from me. She left during the B stage portion.
-The wait was SOOOO LONG! Almost an hour and a half and the crowd started booing. Randy Jackson came out to hype the audience and let them know about the filming but more waiting started and people booed again. Mariah came out
at about 9:50.
-Mariah was hoarse the whole show, even when she was talking and it was apparant from It's Like That. You could tell in her face that she was disappointed that her voice wasn't working properly and she lowered alot of notes she would hit harder or longer. She had trouble with some whistle notes. She seemed a little nervous about the taping.
-She sang "I'm scared, and I'm nervous" from The One.
-The capri pants and top from the beginning of the tour were back for the B stage section.
-Mariah did her lip gloss speech and made them lower the lights to show it.
-Boyz II Men came out for One Sweet Day which was sung in full!! They were doing a show down the street and stopped by. They all sounded fantastic together and Mariah was really belting it out.
-She sounded fantastic during Hero.
-Make It Happen was added by special request and she mentioned she hadn't been doing it for awhile. No Make It Last snippet.

Over all it was a good show but the waiting killed it. The 90 minute wait for Mariah to get onstage was too much. Mariah was most likely at the venue already from earlier in the day so it wasn't her. I was sitting right by the main camera on the floor and in front of the aisle where they went up and down and where Mariah entered for the B stage (i got to high five all of her male dancers!) and they kept bringing the camera down and messing with it, maybe something was wrong with it. Also, the wait for Fantasy to start seemed to take FOREVER!! I understand when critics say the pacing of the show is bad because it is and it could be easily fixed. The DJ interludes seem too much like they are killing time and they are really out of place.
There was an issue with the seating because of the filming and the first 6 rows and 10 seats of Section 104 on the floor (my section) were removed for a big camera and they were trying to relocate people to other seats on the side of the lower level. I wasn't having it and I raised hell (nice hell) and the guy let me sit in an empty seat in the first row of Section 104 and
luckily no one came. There was this crazy guy who must have been in his 40's sitting by himself right next to me and he kept talking about all these concerts he'd seen like Hilary Duff when she was 17 and sexy (what a perv) and Kelly Clarkson. Anyway, he kept talking to the venue workers and when MC came out on the B Stage, he got on the chairs and they told him to get off and he started trouble and started pushing and hitting the guards and they had to carry him up the stairs and he got arrested outside....
Anyway, I think there will be some vocal dubbing on this concert if it is used for the DVD and I just think Mariah and her voice are really tired and need some rest. She really tried to push it out though. Thank god the tour is almost over and she gets 6 days before her Japan shows....

Anaheim taping
A lot of fans are so angry and disappointed, the one hour taping announced in the winners e-mails turned out to be 15 minutes where Mariah sang "It's Like That" and "Heartbreaker" (lipsynched, 'cause she had an entire concert to give in the evening),  in fact, they were told it was just a lightings test.  Some fans were interviewed and after tests , they will choose some for the DVD, at least it's what they said. The worse part of it is that the fans stood outside for more than 2 hours in the sun, no water stands, some fans became sick.
All in all, it was a great experience for some and a nightmare for some others.  The important stuff is that there will be a DVD and the ones who complained forgot they had the chance to see Mariah, it was FREE and nobody forced them to go......

DVD confirmed!!!!!!
macfvr is attending the taping and keep the fans updated live, here's what he has to say....
"one of MC's close friend, some director of the tour just came out and said for us, the crowd, to be patient. MC will come out in a bit. she said they are taping the opening act and that they want it to be perfect. She also said no other artist will allow for every single fan in here to meet MC and ask her questions, that will be included in the DVD. So I guess were gonna all meet MC up in here.... she said it will be lots of fun and that MC does this cus she loves her fans...
Mariah just spoke to us. She told us hello and that she's almost ready.... they're gonna play some tracks instrumental to see if the lighting is cool"
I guess we will have more details later, but it's gonna be tomorrow for me, it's too late and I'm exhausted.

The Anaheim taping mystery
Soooooo, will it be the taping for additional footage for a DVD?  Will it be a special for CBS?  Fans who won entries for this afternoon's taping said a one hour long taping was scheduled, but they need to be there for 5 hours.
Also, it seems they hire people from background casting agencies, young actors are hired all over the area to be in a music video in Anaheim tomorrow, it could be for the same stuff.

Jadakiss arrested on gun charge
Rapper Jadakiss was arrested for alleged weapon possession after a traffic stop early Saturday, his second arrest on gun charges since 2004, authorities said.
Jadakiss was one of four people inside the car, Detective Sgt. Joseph Pietropaolo said. He said all four were charged with criminal possession of a weapon because a loaded handgun was found inside the vehicle.
His most recent album was "Kiss of Death," and he had a hit single "U Make Me Wanna" that featured Mariah Carey.
Jadakiss sparked controversy in 2004 with his song "Why," which contained lyrics asking "Why did Bush knock down the towers?" He said later it was a reference to the president's failure to stop terrorism.

Go George!!!!!!! (part 2)
Like I posted this morning, according to Fiona Phillips from The Mirror, George Michael's people told her she will never have an interview with George again, following something she had written about his mate Mariah Carey.
Thanks to Jay who searched the articles where Fiona Phillips insulted Mariah and posted them on our forum, we now know what that woman wrote:
"16 July 2005
Fiona: Mariah Carey's big sister
Fiona Phillips
For the second time in 10 weeks Mariah Carey's big sister Alison, has been arrested for prostitution.
Aha! So that's who lent her the hooker's dress she wore on stage for Live 8!"
"7 January 2006
Mariah Barey
Fiona Phillips
In the summer Mariah Carey's faithful publicist threatened to sue me after I'd commented on her client's fashion sense. I didn't think too much about it because I reckoned Mariah would take it with the pinch of salt it deserved.
But in Wednesday's Mirror she said: "If someone writes something negative about me I have to believe it." Now I feel really guilty... Sorry, Mariah. But the dress WAS very tight."

Los Angeles concert tidbits
- Mariah is truly one of the most talented singers of our generation and she proved to everyone tonight why she is called The Voice. Mariah sounded fantastic.
- Her voice was so powerful and just astonishing to listen to. It was like her voice was permenantly set in a high register because she sung everything high. She was raspy during some songs and when she talked but despite this, she sung through it and didn't try to lower any notes.
- She cracked during Vision Of Love and Don't Forget About Us but it just made her more real and was even better when she pushed through it
- The setlist was the same as all the other concerts.
- Trey did Never Too Much and then did one of his own songs called My Everything with the male dancers and he said they were filming the video for it.
- Big Boy from Power 106 in LA came out and took a pic and proposed to his girlfriend onstage.
- A pregnant fan had a sign that said "Mariah, Name My Baby Boy" and Mariah talked to her and said that she should name it Roy (after her dad), Carey, or Trey. That was a nice segue into One Sweet Day, talking about her dad...

Mariah Carey dazzles
Mariah Carey assumed almost supernatural powers in a concert that made local hip-hop history Friday at Staples Center.
The golden-voiced singer delivered a top-notch concert. But she also set the stage for a marriage proposal by one of the city's top morning radio jocks; self-diagnosed an allergic reaction; caused audience members to either weep or canoodle; and named a baby.

The only thing she didn't do was validate parking.

To backtrack, the last time we encountered le Carey was several years ago at the Forum, where the singer was either at the tail end of a major breakdown or embarking on a new one. She essentially just stood there in a catatonic stupor, apparently miming to a backup tape.

That was before the emancipation of Mimi. Friday saw a new Mariah. Putting forth a tightly arranged, perfectly packed two-hour concert, the entertainer was fully involved, stopping to talk to the crowd, throwing in ad libs in song lyrics and generally looking fit and sexy all around. The set list took in the classics: "Dream Lover," "Always Be My Baby," "I ll Be There," Heartbreaker," and recent chart busters "We Belong Together" and "Shake It Off."

Carey at her best, backed up by a fine band and singers.

But what people will remember about the show will be the moment Power 106 morning DJ Big Boy came on stage alone and began talking about his recent surgery and the woman that stood by him and is now pregnant with his baby. Calling out his startled girlfriend, the radio guy got down on his knees and proposed marriage in front of the packed sports arena. Wisely, she said yes.
A bit later, Mariah noticed someone in the place was smoking a cigarette. In a raspy voice, the singer diagnosed that her sudden sore throat was the result of that offending Marlboro. The cancer stick was extinguished.

The wildly diverse crowd was in Carey's corner from the moment opening act Busta Rhymes evoked her name during his bawdy, one-dimensional opening set.

And cheers rang out whenever Carey's own DJ kept the crowd pumped up with shouts of "MC" interspersed with an L.A.-centric selection of samples that hip-hopped from Snoop's "G Thang" to the reggaetron of "Gasolina."

But nobody could've expected what would happen when a pregnant fan made her way to the front of the stage between songs. The woman, spotted by Carey, said she would give birth in two weeks and wanted Carey to name the child.

She had wanted to name the kid Mariah, but she was having a boy. Would Carey help out?

The wonder that is Mariah thought for a second, giving three suggestions: Roy (for her late dad), Trey (for backup singer Trey Lorenz) and Carey.

The woman looked pleased Carey it would be. All in just another Friday night for Mariah Carey on tour.

Emancipation Proclamation
“The Voice. The Hits. The Tour.” The tagline for Mariah Carey’s Adventures of Mimi tour has it exactly right. The Voice! That swooping crane of a voice, the very same that nailed the high E in 1991’s “Emotion,” which was an actual event in the world of people who care about that sort of thing. The Hits! The arsenal of perfect pop cupcakes, with My Little Pony names such as “Daydream,” “Honey,” “Dreamlover,” “Hero” and “Butterfly,” each highly catchy single supplemented by the cheesecake-y-est of videos, unself-conscious diva-glam buffets of hair and thick legs, and unadulterated sparkle. The Tour! Where else could Mariah, the queen of Top 40 queens, shine as brightly as a live performance, featuring real vocals and a boggling number of cleave-focused outfits?

Mariah Carey is like Oz. We know less about her comings and goings than most entertainers who are half as successful. She’s had essentially the same personal and musical style for years—seriously, who else rocks the honey-blond ringlets anymore? It’s quite possible she lives in a land beyond our own (New Jersey?), pounding away behind some velvet curtain. She’s definitely a goer—she’s on tour for three months, singing her songs, grinding with the dancers and emphasizing her vibrato with the signature Mariah finger-flutter. And—lest we forget the dark cloud that settled over Barbie’s Dream House a while back—when her movie bombed, her label bought out her contract and her appearance on MTV’s Total Request Live was deemed c-c-crazy by the press, it shook Mariah’s pink pedestal a bit. Of course, it took only a couple of years and some hip-hop to get Mariah thumping inside the collective consciousness again. It’s hard to keep a good diva down.

The newest album, The Emancipation of Mimi, speaks to the kind of personal freedom one can achieve after releasing 13 albums about boyfriends. It’s also the best-selling album of 2005—every track is quality because girl is sincere. It’s comforting to know Mariah is the kind of fairy princess who is just crazy enough to believe.

Mariah Carey with Busta Rhymes at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim, 2695 E. Katella Ave., Anaheim, (714) 704-2500. Sun., 7:30 p.m. $19.50-$129.

San Diego review
Mariah Carey: Coasting on a comeback
A revitalized Mariah Carey continues to delight squealing fans, but her show skimps on songs.

There are two ways of looking at Mariah Carey's biggest tour in years, the one that didn't quite pack 'em in at San Diego's ipayOne Center at the Sports Arena Wednesday night but which is guaranteed sellouts at Staples Center and the newly christened Honda Center (formerly the Pond) this weekend.

Which view you prefer, however, depends on how charitable you wish to be toward the street diva and her predictable "Adventures of Mimi" outing.

Those who insist it's high time Mariah got her due – those thrilled that her wildly overvalued album "The Emancipation of Mimi" was both last year's sales champ and an inexplicable Grammy darling – surely have already determined these shows are the culmination of her comeback: a well-earned victory lap for a show-biz survivor.

That it is in more ways than one, and only a jealous hater would deny that she isn't deserving of this celebration. Five years ago, when Mariah's sudden and erratic descent into tabloid purgatory began, it seemed unthinkable that she'd ever crawl back to a stature half as significant as she has now.

Her record-contract woes, the catastrophe of "Glitter," her frequent canceled shows, hospital stays and too-public temper tantrums – plus what very recently appeared to be the premature deterioration of her unearthly five-octave vocal range – all seemed to spell the end of her days as an omnipresent powerhouse. Everyone loves a comeback, but the reality is that they're increasingly rare. Just look at Whitney Houston, the still-suffering giant Mariah was once modeled after.

Yet, picture-perfect as ever and healthier to boot, a well-handled Mariah has rebounded to score still more chart-topping singles; having tied Elvis Presley for second place with 17, she likely will surpass the Beatles' record 20 before she's 40. What's more, thanks to a rekindled romance with MTV, she has (somewhat surprisingly) become a symbol of sexual liberation and female empowerment for a whole new generation of young women, the clear majority of attendees in San Diego.

Fostering that connection, Mariah has rarely seemed as down to earth as she does on this tour, routinely striving to reach out to the audience more literally than figuratively – even going so far as to invite an Australian fan on stage for a hug, break into unrehearsed a capella choruses of shouted requests and, for three numbers, performing on a disco dance floor raised in the center of the arena. (That's now an old trick everyone from Madonna to the Stones employs, but up to now Mariah, like Streisand, has remained removed from her audience. The close proximity this setup affords is sometimes startling.)

Best news of all: She hasn't sung so powerfully since she began, and back then she never matched her innate force with so much nuance.

Yes, I still find her rain-falling finger-twiddling moves – the ones she whips out when she's at her most melismatic – as annoying as ever. But the last time I saw her, at a 2003 Christmas show in L.A., she had to strain to hit her famous dog-whistle notes, most of which came across hoarse and screechy. Here, however, with no apparent tape-track sweetening, she soared again and again, adding soulful grit to her lower register and effortlessly scaling demanding vocal heights on past favorites, be they slow and sultry (the now-classic "Vision of Love"), breezy ("Dream Lover," "Honey") or funked-up and strutting ("Heartbreaker").

Fans here justifiably ate it up, squealing for her every change of skimpy outfit as if they had just spotted Justin Timberlake streaking. So I doubt many will share my second view of Mariah's meager spectacle – as a bit of a consumer ripoff.

No one would expect her to dazzle with theatrical staging à la Madonna or awe with frenetic choreography à la Janet Jackson. Mariah's got only slightly more groove in her teetering step than rhythmically challenged Whitney, and as a dancer, well, she's good at shimmying her voluptuous curves against a pole and writhing alongside a lighted MIMI marquee – and that's about it.

(Because of that lack of physical exertion, by the way, this 36-year-old bombshell may have very few years left of sashaying in nothing but boy shorts, bikini bras and six-inch heels. Her body as golden as her oft-blown-back tresses, she's still a knockout, but right away you could tell she's growing self-conscious, as she kept not-so-casually covering her barely clad backside with a sheer shawl, so as to hide the effects of gravity.)

Apart from her sex appeal, then, she has only one weapon: a litany of hits. That's what I'd figure people paid triple-digit figures to hear. Yet after an hour of her roughly 90-minute set, Mariah had performed a mere eight songs, not all of them smashes. And after a pleasing revival of her remake of the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There," she then turned the spotlight over to duet partner and backing vocalist Trey Lorenz.

For three songs. Including useless covers of Luther Vandross' "Never Too Much" and Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy." Combine that with not one but two DJ intervals, filled with snippets of crowd-rousing old-school hip-hop, and a handful of dancer-distracting costume changes, and that's close to a half-hour of dead space that could have been given to a half-dozen more songs.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I assume some people might want more Mariah for their money. As it is, the second half of her set seemed like a replay of the first half. The tunes were different, of course – the inspiring (to some) "My All" and "Fly Like a Bird" were earlier, "Fantasy" and "Hero" were later – and her clinging dress with midriff cutouts was canary colored the first time we saw it, turquoise the second. Otherwise, the routine was the same. Step, step, preen, pose – preferably in front of wind machines at the footlights, the better to make her look like the cover of her "Mimi" album.

And any sense of a concert-as-a-life's-summation, which a video intro to her show suggested might come, was also quickly abandoned. What resulted was just a more grandiose version of what she's done in the past, on a much larger stage adorned by a gargantuan M.

Which really would have been fine – she needn't have undergone an extreme makeover – if Mariah had simply offered more material. Ultimately her show grew tedious. And, frankly, I'd have sacrificed at least a pair of eye-popping outfits if it would have meant she'd stay on stage longer, stood at a microphone – and sung her tail off some more.

San Diego concert tidbit update
My brotha Larry sent me some more infos:
Someone said: "Mariah For President" and she responded: "NO I Inhaled!" EVERYBODY LAUGHED! She took a bear and a lamb from someone and said San Diego was very festive and she loved all the signs.
She performed "My Saving Grace" a cappella. Fans got an autographed CD from Trey's "Mr Mista". Mariah was really dancing in this show. WAY more personal with the fans than she was in Vegas. She started really late and people were starting to get really irritated but after the show started no one even cared it was all about Mariah. The venue wasn't sold out but was definitely a funner crowd! Ne-yo opened and the set list was the same as Vegas, she added "Vision of Love" but no "Make It Happen".
A big thanks to my brotha Larry.

No pictures, no cams and now no signs...
For pictures or films, I can understand it, it's against the rules and on Mariah's camp request.  But now, Angelito just e-mailed me (with his cell phone from San Diego) to tell signs are not allowed at the concerts anymore, or just a few, on request of  the artist (or let's say by her camp).

Last night was the good one for Jess
Remember I told you that at the beginning of the Oakland show, Mariah noticed Jess' flag and said "There's someone here from Australia", Jess came all the way from Sydney to attend 3 concerts.  Mariah also said she wanted to hug her  and needed to arrange something with Darryl, but it didn't happen.  Tonight at the San Diego concerts, Mariah noticed Jess again with her Australian flag and made her come on stage to give her the promised hug .  Mariah also told she wanted to go to Australia but it didn't happen this time.

The YouTube problem goes on....
Yesterday, I posted an article about Universal wanting to sue YouTube, 'cause of copyrights violation.  I thought ok, if you see it on Universal's side, they think they loose money with the fact you can see videos.  But, it goes further, you're not allowed to mime neither
"two weeks ago it was reported that Universal, one of the four major record labels, was preparing to file a lawsuit against YouTube, and bloggers began glumly predicting the imminent demise of the service. Then, in a move which surprised many, the rival Warner Music Group responded by giving YouTube carte blanche to host its video material, and permission for any Warner material to be used in home-made productions. The upshot of this is that if you want to upload a clip of yourself miming to a Mariah Carey song, Universal won't be happy. But do the same to a James Blunt song, and Warner will, theoretically, be right behind you. The current situation neatly encapsulates the argument surrounding copyright and the internet. Universal believes that it is owed "tens of millions of dollars" in royalties by YouTube, while Warner thinks that the potential exposure for its artists more than makes up for any royalty losses. In this week's inbox most readers have weighed in on the side of YouTube, for three main reasons.
Firstly, it's far from straightforward to download the clips, so often you just watch them online. Secondly, the video quality is so inferior to DVD that, for readers like Rachael Bateson, YouTube merely provides a fuzzy reminder to go out and buy a version not compromised by pixellated visuals and stuttering playback. Thirdly, many of the clips on YouTube can't be found anywhere else. "You could wait 1,000 years for MTV to play Derek Jarman's video for Marc Almond's "Tenderness is a Weakness," points out Al Scott, "but I - along with 1,021 other people - have watched it on YouTube." As Martin Urlwin point outs, "It's a business decision, and whether or not it's a good one, it's Universal's to make."
Whether they end up regretting that decision remains to be seen.

Huh-Oh, not a good review...
Carey doesn't make it happen at Oakland concert
Voice gets lost in theatrics
The big question going into Mariah Carey's concert at Oakland Arena on Monday night was: How many wardrobe changes would the pop queen make?

The answer was five, which seemed like a reasonable number for a diva of her magnitude.

Unfortunately, that was about the only thing reasonable about the show. Just about everything else made little sense at all.

This was a concert that should have been so much better than it was.

Mariah Carey has 17 No. 1 singles, which ties her with Elvis Presley for the most chart-toppers by a solo artist. That alone should provide all the ammunition needed to put on a memorable show.

Didn't happen.

The 36-year-old vocalist has made some poor decisions with her Adventures of Mimi Tour, the sum of which took the focus away from where it needed to be -- the music. The concert was poorly paced, cluttered with unnecessary theatrics and completely devoid of any sense of purpose. Things would have been so much better if Carey had just sung the hits and left the horseplay to the Madonnas of the world.

Following an opening set by speed-rapper Busta Rhymes, who came across as cartoonish as ever, Carey opened her show with a silly video segment of a roller coaster, which was meant to underscore the twists and turns of the diva's life. The star then appeared wearing a little bikinilike outfit that left little to the imagination.

Working a large two-level stage that was framed under a giant "M," Carey shimmied with six dancers as she opened with a bouncy version of "It's Like That" from "The Emancipation of Mimi," the best-selling CD of 2005.

The musical mix, featuring three keyboardists, three backing vocalists, a drummer and a DJ, was mostly solid. But the problem was that Carey's breathtaking five-octave voice was frequently buried in a place that was harder to find than Jimmy Hoffa's coffin.

And when you could hear her famously melismatic voice, such as on "Heartbreaker," you didn't really want to, as the diva hit high notes that probably had dogs barking all over nearby San Leandro. Not that there is anything wrong with a good high note, when it is used to further a song, but Carey's vocal gymnastics came across as merely for show.

After only 25 minutes on stage, the star made an exceedingly early exit and left the set in the hands of her DJ. Not surprisingly, the concert basically ground to a halt. Carey returned, this time wearing a golden gown that was nearly as revealing as the bikini, and produced a few good moments with "Vision of Love" and a duet with backing vocalist Trey Lorenz on the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There."

She then turned the set over to Lorenz for a three-song segment that had people sitting down faster than when the music stops in a game of musical chairs. That was the second time in roughly 45 minutes that the show completely lost all momentum.

Oh, but there would be others. The second half was full of badly planned moments, including one of those nauseating medley things, all of which could have been avoided.

Again, it's about potential. And by closing the set with a gorgeous and moving version of "Hero," bereft of all the unnecessary theatrics, Mariah Carey showed how good this concert should have been.

Oakland review
Carey fans hang on her thrill ride of highs and lows

It wasn't just Mariah Carey's dancers who were doing backflips at Monday's sold-out show at the Arena in Oakland. By the opening number, the diva-in-absentia had the crowd on its feet, as she time-traveled back to some of the messier moments in her personal history.

It's not as if she didn't warn the 19,000 faithful, kicking off her 90-minute set with a short, thrill-inducing cinematic climb up a roller coaster, with Carey narrating platitudes about her opulent soap opera come to life.

"When I was little I was so scared of roller coasters, but you learn you have to face your fears," she said breathlessly. "But just when I thought the scariest part was over, something more terrifying would happen."

Like detonating her marriage to music mogul Tommy Mottola, being released from her recording contract, the failure of 2001's "Glitter" album and quasi-autobiographical movie of the same name and attendant canceled tour dates, the hospital stays and the famous glass- and dish-throwing episode in a London hotel room, all documented in tabloids and by Carey on her own Web site.

To the singer's continuing credit, she doesn't try to conceal any of those tawdry details from fans, as if she could in her barely there outfits. Instead, she used them as rather touching fodder to detail many of the two dozen songs she performed. "How many times have I had to apply this song to my own life?" Carey mused mid-verse during "Hero," her self-penned 1993 song that became one of the unofficial anthems of 9/11.

After the conclusion of the short film, the singer ascended from beneath the stage, like a goddess rising from the depths of the ocean, screaming over the din, "San Francisco, how ya feeling?"

Oozing down a lavish spiral staircase in her mile-high Christian Louboutin stilettos, all jutting hips, tossed curls and purring vocals, Carey effortlessly slid into "It's Like That," the first single from her Grammy-winning 2005 album "The Emancipation of Mimi," opening her show with a mighty leonine roar. It was more Victoria's Secret TV spot than pop music show, and in the first of five costume changes, Carey looked resplendent -- albeit a little more zaftig than in recent years -- in a black peignoir set that revealed more than it concealed. "It takes a lot of guts to dress like that with that body," one reveler gushed to a friend.

While not a trained dancer by anyone's stretch of the imagination, Carey sensuously moved in half-time down the frighteningly steep staircase once again, stumbling on the fourth step, all the while caressing her prodigious curves and running long, manicured fingers through her imposing hair in time to "Heartbreaker's" disco beat. But the stumble, like the extra weight, humanizes her even more to fans, eliciting a small gasp among the faithful.

A wounded sex kitten, Carey coos, pouts, then goes for broke, emitting sounds that you'd think only dolphins could utter at the close of "Dreamlover," one of the 17 No. 1 hits that allowed her to become one of the wealthiest stars of the 1990s.

"What do you want, Frisco?" she demanded as she plunged into "My All," before someone in her cadre undoubtedly gave her a geography lesson.

"I know we're in Oakland," she said a little defensively, flashing only a little of her diva ire. "Some of my friends are here from San Francisco, so I can say that, you know. I love me some Oakland.

"Anyway, this is one of the first places that played my first single when I was little," cooed the 36-year old singer in appeasement, before asking permission to take a small sip of her ever-present Fiji water, a far from her halcyon days swilling Cristal Champagne.

The newly emancipated Carey is all business, down to the strategically placed cutouts in her Barbie doll gowns, to the mirrored "Mimi" that descended from the ceiling before "Shake It Off," a clever kiss-off with the perfect intersection of high concept and low culture: "I gotta shake it off/ Just like the Calgon commercial." All the better when you know that nothing less than Chanel really touches her golden skin.

During the tune, Carey put on a pair of expensive hit-man sunglasses. Why? Because of the high-wattage sign or because her future really is so bright again she does needs shades? "The Emancipation of Mimi" has already racked up 5 million in sales, she's taking guitar lessons, and it looks as if there's another movie on the horizon.

Some of that momentum was lost during the chanteuse's five costume changes. Sometimes the breaks were so long that it allowed the DJ to romp through decades of rap and R&B tunes, such as Bell Biv DeVoe's "Poison" and the Digital Underground's "The Humpty Dance."

In the meanwhile, longtime backup singer Trey Lorenz stepped out into the stoplight to sing the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There," with Carey, then to finish up alone with a rather weak and dispirited three-song medley, culminating in an anemic version of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy." The only thing crazy was Carey allowing this singer so much face time.

All of that was forgiven when the singer came back for the second half of the set, slowing the pace just a bit with "Fantasy," a song that pairs her pop vocals with a hip-hop beat, a winning formula that the singer has been employing since she left the controlling clutches of her record-exec husband. She performed the song as a duet with the disembodied video of the late rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard, which was as disconcerting as it was affecting.

But that sentiment colored the entire night. At times, as cameras flashed over the audience, fans could be seen with tears in their eyes, wrapping their arms around themselves as they sang along to hits like "Always Be My Baby" or the feisty heart-tugger "We Belong Together," only equaled by Carey herself, whose immaculate made-up eyes welled up with tears during the latter song.

But that is the true gift of this singer. While Jennifer Lopez may claim to be Jenny From the Block, Carey shows that she still lives there, even if she gets there in a chauffeur-driven roller coaster.

Guys, be careful, more and more fans (or people) who take pictures are escorted out the concert arenas by security guards.  Don't miss your concert 'cause of a few pictures.  The best pictures are the ones which will stay in your heart forever

Music industry becomes worse and worse, I personally thought YouTube and MySpace was a nice way to promote artists and music..... artiste themselves use it and like it, but whatever.... it's all about money now.  This article is almost 1 month old, but it's very interesting.
Music Chief Rails at Websites
Head of Universal says social spots such as YouTube and MySpace help violate copyrights.
To some in the music industry, social networking websites such as MySpace.com and YouTube.com are a godsend, helping listeners enjoy their favorite acts and discover new bands.

But not to the head of the world's largest music company.

On Wednesday, Universal Music Group Chief Executive Doug Morris took a swipe at social networking, contending that the sites assist users in violating copyrights of music videos.

"We believe these new businesses are copyright infringers and owe us tens of millions of dollars," Morris said. "How we deal with these companies will be revealed shortly."

Representatives of YouTube declined to comment on Morris' remarks, made during a Merrill Lynch Media & Entertainment Conference in Pasadena.

Some observers thought Morris' comments were more posturing than threat, stemming from talks about how music companies will be compensated.

"This is probably a negotiating ploy," said entertainment analyst Mike McGuire of research firm Gartner Inc. "Nobody really wants MySpace or YouTube to disappear. The music industry needs them too badly. They're just figuring out how to get paid."

But a company source says Universal Music executives have discussed suing YouTube, alleging copyright infringement, if continuing negotiations with the company are unsuccessful.

YouTube and News Corp.-owned MySpace have become enormously popular by letting users post almost anything online.

Some of the most popular postings are copyrighted music videos that include Universal Music artists, such as Mariah Carey and the Black Eyed Peas. Other sites, such as those of Yahoo Inc. and Time Warner Inc.'s AOL, also offer videos, but they pay Universal Music each time a video is viewed.

Insiders at Vivendi's Universal Music said the four major music companies — Universal Music, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and EMI Group — were in negotiations with YouTube to adopt screening software that would keep unauthorized videos off the sites.

Currently, companies can notify YouTube when a copyrighted video is detected and ask for its removal.

But there is no way to prevent postings. On Wednesday, a search for "Black Eyed Peas video" on YouTube returned 553 results.

MySpace.com is also in negotiations with the four major music companies to sell songs and videos over the site.

The industry is trying to avoid a misstep committed at the founding of MTV, when music labels helped build the television channel by providing videos free of charge to promote their artists. Labels saw none of the hundreds of millions of dollars MTV later earned.

Mariah Carey and Busta Rhymes at the Oakland Arena
Checking out Mariah Carey at the Oakland Arena was like listening to the soundtrack of my life from way back when in high school. Actually "Hero" was my junior prom theme.

In her hour and a half show, she sang her classics like  "I'll Be There," "Always Be My Baby," and "Hero," in addition to her more recent hits like "We Belong Together" and "Shake It Off." Though in the beginning with "Heartbreaker"  and "Dream Lover" her voice was raspy.

Her DJ came to the rescue by playing old school hits from Tupac to Salt-N-Pepa giving her a chance for ample breaks, and the time to change outfits. Her clothes ranged from the loungewear-like bespeckled black bikinis with a transparent black hoodie to the J-Lo inspired seafoam green gown with kimono sleeves and the stomach section cut out. She also didn't waste energy on dancing, choosing instead to pose from side to side. It would have been hard anyways, with the stilettos and tight clothes.

The last time she came around, I interviewed her, asking why she chose to express such a sexy image. She said that when she was with Sony chair and chief executive Tommy Mottola, he wanted her to upkeep a very Puritanical outlook, so when she came out of that relationship, she wanted to be on her own - in short, her emancipation though, she admits, dressing sexy is not what she does on an everyday basis.

One nice feature of the concert was the second stage in the middle of the floor section, which gave the fans a closer look at their idol. It also gave her a closer look at her fans, and she took time to wish one happy birthday and thank them for their gifts.

Opener Busta Rhymes was just like Mariah put it, the perfect way to kick off a party. His big personality filled the packed arena. He and partner Spliff Star were up to their usual antics like flirting with the audience and asking them to cheer louder. This is the third show of his I've caught and he's consistently good and worth checking out.

Both he and Mariah had hits stretching years back so it was a good fit.

Oakland tidbits
- In the beginning Mariah kept saying San Francisco and then later said "I know I'm in Oakland but I got friends in San Francisco"
- While on the B stage people had gifts and books they made for her. She made sure that her crew got them and told the crowd something along the lines of "Sorry for wasting your time but my fans have taken the time to make stuff for me and I want to make sure I get it."
- At the beginning of the show, Mariah noticed Jess' flag and said "There's someone here from Australia", Jess came all the way from Sydney to attend 3 concerts.

First a tumble, now a cold...
Mariah has a cold.... me too but the difference is that I'm not on Tour at the moment and I don't need to perform .
According to fans who waited next to the limo, there were tons of tissues on the floor.  Mariah's driver said that indeed Mariah was sick.

Mariah Carey thrills crowds

"Life is kinda like a rollercoaster," began the taped introduction of Mariah Carey's sold-out Sept. 30 concert for The Adventures of Mimi: the Voice, the Hits, the Tour in the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

When the superstar hit the stage at 8:53 p.m., after opening act Sean Paul failed to appear and the audience just sat for an hour, the ride finally began.

Mariah popped onto the bi-level stage wearing a black cape, a midriff-baring black top and tiny black shorts. During the opening verse of "It's Like That," she yelled, "What's up Vegas?" to a crowd that erupted in screams almost as high-pitched as the high notes for which she is famous.

After she breezed through a subsequent remix of "Dreamlover," she welcomed her fans to her fourth concert in Las Vegas. She also welcomed rapper and producer Jermaine Dupri, who performed the first song of the night with her, and mentioned the presence of rapper Bow Wow and producer Jimmy Jam.

"I don't want anyone to get mobbed," she added, "but there's also someone in the crowd with the initials J.J." The crowd exploded with applause and heads turned in all directions looking for Janet Jackson, the superstar who had accompanied boyfriend Jermaine Dupri to the event.

After a wardrobe change, the show went on with Mariah's transition into her debut single "Vision of Love," which came surprisingly early in the concert. Midway through the performance, she lost her earpiece and did a second a cappella run of the song's melismatic bridge.

The brisk, but not rushed, pace of the concert showed Mariah has grown from her previous Vegas performances. Gone were the pointless skits that dominated the "Charmbracelet" tour I saw in July 2003. Gone was the needless guest appearance of Jack, Mariah's terrier, attacking a water bottle, which perplexed me during the Rainbow tour in 2000. This more mature Mariah was all business, all music, and – best of all – all live.

Mariah's voice was strong for her Las Vegas performance. Even the usually softer parts of her songs were sung in full voice and she often ventured into her lower register for an added twist.

At the introduction of her gospel ballad "Fly Like A Bird," she announced, "I know we're in Sin City and all … and this may not be the most demure ensemble you've ever seen, but sometimes you've got to mix it up to get the message across." Pastor Clarence Keaton, who is featured on this record, was not in attendance for the Las Vegas performance after a few incidences of absenteeism on his part in previous tour stops.

Peppering in her old hits, Mariah also sang a snippet of "Can't Let Go."

"That one kinda broke my streak of number ones," she muttered into the microphone, afterwards. "But I'm not bitter!"

She brought out Trey Lorenz for their early 90s remake of "I'll Be There," by the Jackson 5. "Even the old folks know this one," Mariah said. Lorenz said he wasn't in his usual voice, after a night of poker and drinks, so as a duo they invited the crowd to sing most of the song.

As Mariah changed clothes, Trey Lorenz did a tribute to Luther Vandross, with "Never Too Much," "A House is Not a Home" and then broke into an unexpected version of pop-group Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy."

Mariah performed on a second stage, then returned to the main stage to sing "Hero." She thanked the crowd and said good night around 10:15, but every true fan knew she was planning an encore. She returned to perform an amazing "We Belong Together" and a reprise of "Butterfly" to conclude. With that, the rollercoaster ride came to an end.

Mariah Knows How to Work a Room
After rocking a sold out crowd in Las Vegas with her hit songs, Mariah Carey ventured to PURE Nightclub inside Caesars Palace. Carey and an entourage of 50 people bolted upstairs to the PURE terrace to take in the gorgeous weather outside and scenery of the Las Vegas Strip. Wearing a tight black dress, black boots and black sunglasses, Carey sipped on Dom Perignon while chatting with friends from her VIP cabana.

Later Mariah and her crew made their way downstairs to PURE's main room where a huge crowd awaited her entrance. As Carey made her way to the VIP stage, the crowd went crazy as flash bulbs lit up the room . With her own personal DJ Suss 1 on the turntables and a fresh glass of Dom Perignon, Carey got cozy on the VIP bed lounging as if she was in her living room. Around 1:45 a.m. Carey closed the curtains to her VIP section leaving everyone wondering what she was up to. DJ Suss 1 began belting out Carey songs and at 2:10 a.m. Carey emerged from behind the curtains for all of the club to see.

Later in the evening Carey and members of her party held court at another VIP table, once again sipping on a fresh glass of Dom Perignon. At 3:20AM Carey departed to get some rest before traveling to Oakland for the continuation of her tour.

A lil' dog Mariah fan attended 10 Mariah concerts
Robert Moran, 20, a Visalia hair stylist, dressed his Chihuahua, Mariah, as his favorite singer, Mariah Carey.
"She's wearing a one-of-a-kind Louis Vuitton designer gown" — or at least Moran's approximation of one for a tiny canine. And he put hot pink nail polish on Mariah's claws.
"And she's a big Mariah Carey fan. She's been to 10 Mariah Carey concerts" including one last week in Sacramento where the singer, a well-known dog lover, took a photo with his dog, said Moran, adding that he used his connections in the singer's fan club to get his dog into the concert.
Saturday was Moran's and Mariah's first time in the Dog Daze parade, but the two seemed right at home. "She's been wearing dresses and tops like this since she was 3 years old, so I came out to support the SPCA."

Las Vegas review
'M' is for mammoth vocals, show
Carey -- her nimble voice captivating -- performs for thousands at MGM Grand

Mariah Carey opened wide and sang like she had a bullhorn stuck in her throat, her voice barreling from her lungs as if it was fired from a slingshot.

"Ahhh-ah! Ahhh-ah! Ahhh-ah! Hee! Hee! Hee!" she trilled, stretching the notes as if they were made of soft taffy, indulging in vocal acrobatics like an auctioneer in hot pants.
Too much is never enough at a Mariah Carey gig, where ostentation rules -- vocally and otherwise -- and even the glittery mic stands look like they cost more than your house.

And Carey is the first to acknowledge as much.

At the MGM Grand on Saturday, she anointed the night "diva Las Vegas," reveling in her own fabulousness before one of her deejays laid down some ground rules.

"All the ugly people be quiet," DJ Suss One instructed, silencing anyone who didn't sparkle like Carey's golden microphone.

Of course, beauty is only skin deep, and so are most of Carey's tunes. She specializes in lithe pop pep talks about overcoming this obstacle or that, employing birds and butterflies as metaphors for love.

But if her songs often seem as if they were spun from cotton candy, Carey's jet engine voice aims to supply any missing heft. She sings the way a hotshot guitarist races up and down the fret board, supplying more fireworks than a dozen Fourth of Julys.

On this night, Carey sang like a newborn emotes: loudly, freely and occasionally uncontrollably. She tore into early hit "Vision of Love" so forcefully that you could practically see the veins bulge in her neck as her voice leapt from one octave to the next. And on the soaring "Fly Like A Bird," she scatted feverishly over some dense percussion.

For all her enviable range however, Carey's at her best when she harnesses her voice into a breathy purr, like on the come-hither ballad "My All" or with the nimble pop funk of "It's Like That."

But Carey just seems to naturally gravitate toward the larger than life, and the production values of her current tour are as outsized as her voice. She performs on a stage backed by a towering illuminated "M," with her nickname, "Mimi," spelled out in giant white lights.

At the MGM Grand, even the crowd was star studded: Carey was joined onstage from time to time by hip-hop producer Jermaine Dupri, who was in town, and there were other celebrities in the stands, such as rapper Bow Wow, "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson and producer Jimmy Jam.

But for all the big names and fancy props, the best moments of the night were the smaller, more intimate ones, such as when Carey sang a trio of songs from a checkered square stage set up in the middle of the arena, ending with a climactic take on "Always Be My Baby," which she finished on her knees.

Too bad then, that the show was slowed down by a pair of DJ interludes -- as well as a meandering suite of songs from backup singer Trey Lorenz -- which were meant to kill time while Carey underwent her four different wardrobe changes.

The evening suffered from this uneven momentum.

"Sometimes, life can be like a roller coaster," Carey announced during a taped intro to the show, and the same could be said of her concerts.

Las Vegas concert tidbit update
My good friend Larry sent me some more infos:
Mariah cut "Make It Happen" but replaced it with "Vision of Love" and during "Hero" a lady was crying really bad and Mariah said during the song "it's hard to sing cuz she is gonna make me cry".  The set list stayed the same other than that.  She was about 40 min late but none seemed to mind.  It was a great show and by far the best one yet.  IT WAS GREAT AND VERY LIVE SHE WAS HAVING A GREAT TIME! YOU COULD TOTALLY TELL!  No stage fright.
A big thanks to my brotha Larry.

Mariah was listed among the artists performing at a AIDS benefit in Beijing (China)
Actually, there have been rumors of a star-studded AIDS benefit on the Great Wall, but a visit to the website reveals that it should have happened September 2 … at the Forbidden City. Hmm, don’t recall that happening. The severely out-of-date press release also lists plans to have U2, Mariah Carey, Gwen Stefani, The Eagles, Yo-Yo Ma, and Lang Lang performing, not to mention appearances from “ambassadors” Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Richard Gere, Penelope Cruz, Yao Ming, and even Bill Clinton! Let’s not get our hopes up. Updated whispers of info say that the event has been rescheduled for this month, pointing to the presence of Damon Albarn in town, as well as new photos of Kelly Rowland and 13-year-old rapper Lil J Xavier posted on the site.
